Patria AMV

Can swim, best armor in wheeled category and has a huge range of mounting options
>>
Yeah if the ADF has enough money for it, that one should be the go. However, they are considering an upgrade kit for the aslav.

Hey guys, was just allowed to tour an aslav the other day. They can't even change the pressure of the tyres remotely, one has to plug a hose into the port on the outside and manually pump the tyres.. Oh and it had been commissioned in 1994 and is a currently serving vehicle.
>>
>>27780502
its one of the 3 or 4 contenders
but the APC version is 25 tons
With a turret and autocannon you're adding another 2 or 3 tons
Also it is 2.99 meters wide
We have C-130 for tactical lift. Bay is 3.02 meters wide. Thats a tight fit.
Doesn't matter to Germany they're adopting the A400 Atlas which has a bigger bay but we have the newest model C-130 only about ten years old.
>>
>>27780504
good luck when the roads break down
>>
>>27780515

Can you post images of the other contenders? Nothing really beats German engineering but I'm curious.
>>
>>27780504
What, like Detroit?
>>
>>27780515
heres a list for the ASLAV replacement:
>BAE Systems/Patria: AMV35
>Rheinmetall/Northrop Grumman: Boxer with LANCE turret
>General Dynamics/Thales: LAV III upgrade
Anyone know of others?
>>
>>27780515
>Doesn't matter to Germany they're adopting the A400 Atlas which has a bigger bay but we have the newest model C-130 only about ten years old.
If only we were the Marines. Then we could replace every other piece of equipment in order fit in a neat new gadget that doesn't even work
>>
>>27780521
With the weight of the Panther and Boxer basic logistical military lift will beat you
>>
>>27780544
If they dont go stryker crazy then the LAV III at 16 tons would do the job
But this upgrade might be the new one the Canadians want thats going to be 28t
>>
>>27780548

>Dat feel when Australia does not have it's own Marines

>>27780562

>>
Part of the entire point of reconnaissance is that your enemy shouldn't know you are watching them. Driving around in a huge noisy vehicle kind of defeats that purpose.

Reconnaissance is one of the few times when infantry is sometimes the best option. The other times should use satellites/aircraft.

good for any UAV
and the NH90 helicopters are pretty big they might need a rolling take off fully loaded

I think our LHDs and Japans 'helicopter destroyers' are built to handle F-35Bs so they can embark Marines for joint operations

You've got to be joking. That's not how rolling helicopter take-offs or translational lift works.
>>
>>27780621
I'm pretty sure that's why we ordered so many F35Bs, because we don't need to modify any of our carriers to support them.

Brits have LCU Mk.10 to put a tank ashore though, from the Bay-class ships or Albion-class

Mexeflotes are just a cheap way of transporting shit to shore and creating temporary docks once the landings are secure.

Aussies need a proper LCU

Armored recon?

Fucking Fennec, its not even a question.

I am an that arrogant South African asshole who thinks South Africa is the be all and end all of wheeled vehicle design, and even I must bow down before such a glorious design

Now... if you want ARMED armored recon, that is then a good question.

Where are the TRACKED vehicles?
Buying WHEELED vehicle simply because they drive faster on roads or are more fuel efficient, on roads?
>>
>>27780577
Formation reconnaissance is the role of recce vehicles. In many countries doctrine that actually requires speed, good communications and the ability to put up a fight. You find the enemy, keep as much distance as you can from anything bigger and kill anything that isnt. Send constant reports back to hq and call in air/arty on everything.

The UK has been one of the few countries who kept the idea of formation recce as a stealthy mission but they seem to have changed there minds recently with ajax. Though I guess Jackal is still around for very light stealth recce.

Confirmed bidders are:

Patria/BAE Systems Australia with the AMV
Rheinmetall Australia with the Boxer
ST Kinetics/Elbit Systems Australia with the Terrex
GDLS/Thales Australia with an unknown offering, most likely LAV 6.0 (Canada) or Piranha V (Switzerland)

You do know AFVs these days are modular.

And are to fit to how the customer wants it.

Finland's AMVs aren't going to be like Poland's which aren't going to be like South Africa's etc. But they're still AMVs regardless.
>>
>>27789237
ah so I got them all except terrex
Piranha V is a monster
I've been reading that the LAV 6.0 will be around 28t

Why all LAV so heavy now?!
