M203 can make every riflemen an amazing grenadier
MK23 SOCOM is ridiculously well built
Colt Mustang is the sexist pocket pistol ever
Sphinx is literally the precision of a Swiss watch
G11 is to /k/ what the tesseract is to the Marvel universe
GAU-8 is piece of vast and abiding weaponry that's more massive than any vehicle most of us will ever operate
You guys forget it was only a little over a hundred years ago we fought wars with what we consider toys and hobbyist playthings.
Now we have scopes for hunting rifles that have more computing power than the computer that controlled Apollo 11.
Firearms, like any other field, are growing and changing so rapidly we have like a dozen brand new kinds of .223s that all do the exact same thing but each one is supposedly so much different and better than the other!
If you only have one favorite... your just not into guns.

FN MAG lacks picatinny rails, has a different gas regulator, lacks a hydraulic buffer and has a few other minor cosmetic differences, The US versions have differences between each other as well.
>>27765410
Ahh. Didn't know that. Thanks.
>>27765249
Absolutely real.
It's basically an AKM rebuilt to be a pump-action repeater instead of a long-stroke gas-piston automatic.
I think there was a guy on here who had one, he and his dad was working on rebuilding it into a real gas-operated semi-auto again, just for fun. Apparently it's fairly different in many ways so it was a challenge to approach.

Both the FN Mag and the M240b are great GPMGs though, miles above say, the M60
>>27765212
I don't care how practical that is, I want it
>>27765512
There's nothing wrong with the M60 beyond the whole no handle for barrels thing. The latest iteration is fixed, I believe, and just got a contract with the Danes over the FN and HK offerings.

Its an abomination but it's a really cool abomination. reminds me of this

>>27765539
Well I mean the old M60, obviously, which wasn't particularly well built.
I get that the E6 iteration is not bad though.
What is changed from the old standard model anyway?
>>27765590
I heard this BAR had two fire modes, fullauto and "super auto" or what ever, a faster firing full auto
how exactly did it reciprocate faster than regular auto when you swapped?
>>27765790
Probably a rate-of-fire-limiter was engaged for regular full-auto, and it was released for the faster full-auto.
>>27764374
you are not alone kommrad
>>27765790
Pretty much what >>27765881 said, early models were semi-auto or automatic. But later autimatic-only variants had a rate of fire reducer that worked at either 350 rounds per minute or 550rpm.
Given the 20 round magazine that meant around 3.5 seconds before you need to reload, or about 2.2 seconds on the higher rate.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how many people would have bought it, it is barred from import under the infamous Clinton-era Russian arms ban.

E6 is lighter, has picatinny rails, carry handles for barrels (no more oven mitt) and some misc things. Advantage over M240 is that it can be used unsupported.
>>27767468
That's not even the biggest flaws, I can get past the oven-mitt (though I very much appreciate a carry handle on my MG barrel), my problems are:
>receiver stretching
>pistol grip and trigger-group falling off if the flat leaf-spring holding them in place gets slightly kinked
>gas plug working itself loose (though this was commonly fixed in the field)
>bipod attached to barrels, so a spare barrel is also an extra bipod, jesus christ why (though I think this was fixed with the E3 model)
>slightly sensitive feed tray
How many of these did they address with it?

No more bipod barrels, forgot about that bit of retardation. They claim they've hard chromed and induction hardened the oprod tube to increase reciever life. The trigger assembly is held in place with a captured pin. Feed tray is supposed to be tougher as well, thanks to the "reciever mounted ammunition hanger" protecting it.

>They claim they've hard chromed and induction hardened the oprod tube to increase reciever life.
That's nice to hear, the old ones weren't exactly top notch in design, welds cracking wasn't unknown once the gun was worn enough. Man, there's so much shit you can do to steel these days to get better results, I mean, there's coatings like duracoat and cerakoat, but there's so many nifty manufacturing methods, allows and surface treatments you can do besides that.
>The trigger assembly is held in place with a captured pin.
This is how it should have been done from the start, man, can you imagine you throw yourself to the ground and you're about to shoot, but realize your trigger is gone?
I guess you could pull the bolt back and release it, just let it slamfire the entire belt, but that seems less than ideal and frankly, irresponsible and unsafe.
>Feed tray is supposed to be tougher as well, thanks to the "reciever mounted ammunition hanger" protecting it.
Alright.
What about bolt peening?
Does the sear have more positive engagement?
I recall the belt puller could take damage if the top-cover wasn't closed correctly, did they redesign it?

Cool thing about the MAG-58 gas regulator compared to the 240B is that it's adjustable. You turn it to increase or decrease the gas flow, and not just two settings it goes in many increments letting you choose a cyclic rate or increase the gas flow as it becomes dirty.

"I spent the last few weeks [of World War I] back in the hospital, but I’ll tell you one thing the boys later told me: The day after the Armistice they got the word to turn in their Chauchats and draw Browning Automatic Rifles. That BAR was so much better than that damned Chauchat. If we’d only had the BAR six months before, it would have saved so many lives."
- Lieutenant Lemuel Shepherd
This brought about a survey, regiment by regiment, requested by General Pétain in late 1916; the survey's essential conclusion was that the open-sided half-moon magazines were defective and caused about two thirds of all stoppages. For instance, it was a common practice for the gunners to oil up the inside of the magazines to facilitate movement of the 8mm Lebel rounds. Also, loose earth, grit, and other particles easily entered the gun through these open-sided magazines, an ever-present risk in the muddy environment of the trenches. Chauchat gunners were also known to load their magazines with 18 or 19 rounds, instead of the maximum 20, in order to avoid the dreaded first-round failure to feed. The Chauchat's long recoil system is often cited as a source of excessive stress on the gunner when he fired this weapon. However, recent and extensive firing tests have demonstrated that it is the Chauchat's ergonomics and its loose bipod, rather than its recoil, that makes it a difficult gun to keep on target beyond very short bursts. On most of the Gladiator-made guns, the sights also made the Chauchat shoot systematically too low and to the right, a failing which was soon recognized, but never corrected. Overheating during uninterrupted periods of full automatic fire (about 120 rounds with the 8mm Lebel version) often resulted in the barrel sleeve assembly locking in the rear position due to thermal expansion, causing stoppage of fire until the gun had cooled off.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chauchat#Battlefield_performance._Chauchat_Mle_1915._8mm_Lebel
>>27784008
Please note that Lemuel's quote didn't cause the investigation, rather the Chauchat's poor materials and design quality.
