In general, they are cheap and reliable. All this MAH SLAV RELIABLILITY, MAH REVOLVER RELIABILITY bullshit doesn't hold a candle to a shotguns reliability.

I regularly hit 80-90+% of clays with my vepr during sporting clays, skeet, and trap. There's no reason you cant use one if you want.
There's objectively better shotguns for clays, but shooting something I enjoy feels so much better to me than using a regular shotgun. I shoot better with the vepr than my 870 anyway.
Just going to chime in on the Remington is shit debate and say I own a circa 2012 Remington Express and it has worked flawlessly but the finish is absolute shit. CLP has salvaged it but the thing rusted right after cleaning just sitting in its case.

I'm sure if you hunt around you'll find something that'll give you let you get both of those features.
In general, just avoid getting a gun that's already tacticooled out; you have no idea what quality parts they've stuck on it, but you've got a good idea of how heavily it's marked up.
