Today is our federal election. The current government can be considered relatively friendly to firearms owners, but the other two main parties are not. The current government is the subject of a very coordinated media and activism campaign aimed at making sure it looses power.

The polls are projecting that this will happen.

Our gun ownership has never been guaranteed, but for the last four years it has not been in jeopardy. Today this could very well change.

I have been dreading this all summer.

Worst case scenario: libs win a minority

Best case: the left vote is split between NDP and LIB while the Cons win a minority due to a strong loyal base. Greens and Bloc continue to be a wastebin for voters further helping the Cons gain seats.

i just want harper to win again.

The longer we keep him in the power.

The harder it is for anti funs to get at us.

The most the liberals or NDP can do is ban our handguns / ARs, considering the long gun registry is gone.

It would be political suicide if they try to make a long gun registry again.

They'll vote against the Throne Speech, and then ask to form a Liberal NDP coalition.

The way the Conservatives can fight this is have Harper announce his retirement right before the Throne Speech. They'll still lose and a Lib-NDP coalition will be in, but it'll put them in a better position for the inevitable election 18 months down the road. There's no way Mulcair will put up with Trudeau's cronies for any longer.

No problem, bro. Though, take it from me: The grass is much greener west of Quebec.

Rent LOOKS more expensive, but most places here include water/heating/electricity, so it comes out to roughly similar. Food is cheaper, too.

Oh, and you don't need to file provincial taxes separately from the federal ones. Much faster/easier.

If you move out near the end of the fiscal year, you also get a fuckton of money back. I think my refund jumped up 1500$ when I moved out of Quebec (for that year, specifically).

There are more and more Quebecers in Ontario, but they are pretty much exclusively the cool ones. :)

I still do not get how in this day and age we still elect officials to represent us. Elected officials made sense back when the idea of travelling to voice your opinion was a big deal. It just wouldn't be practical to have all of Canada gather in the parliament building every time we want to discuss something. Now every person in Canada could vote electronically. Every day you get a couple text messages, or emails, or you have some special snowflake account you log into. You read what it says, and click yes, no, or "I would like to propose another option" I agree with NONE of the officials we are being offered to choose between. I want to vote on individual issues, not to decide a couple issues that matter most to me.

Well Harper isn't doing that, he's been 'balancing' the budget on the backs of public services.

Noone is going to let in refugees without security screenings.

Firearms is a sticking point I'll admit.

>environment and aboriginal women
Plenty of people do, and I'd like to keep our beautiful country nice and pristine. Also, there's some disturbing parallels between the situation with aboriginal women and 70's serial killers. Namely they were able to kill so many children because the police labelled them run aways and didn't care past that. If someone had taken notice sooner, Robert Pickton probably wouldn't have racked up a body count in the triple digits.

>>
>>27624681
They're actually doing a lot better this year, and who knows? Within a couple of elections, we might actually win a seat.
>>
>>27625100
Well the infographic that I slapped up just a little while ago is a good start.

Some of the other things that Harper has done include creating a new office to monitor and report on the Federal Budget. And when they reported on the Harper government to Parliament the PM declined to renew the office's funding. He's also made partisan commentary against the Supreme Court after they made a couple rulings against the government, and while not perfect the Supreme Court tends to be on the side of the Canadian people, and their personal liberties.

The Veterans situation is one I find personally distasteful, since the VA minister insulted Nova Scotian veterans on more than one occasion.

Which brings me to the subject of the Maritimes. Harper is the kind of politician who only goes out of his way to help people that vote for him, instead of governing in a way that's supposed to be beneficial for all Canadians. The Tories haven't gotten much support from the Maritimes over the last decade, and the Maritimes have been made to pay for it.

There's the fact that he pushed through an omnibus crime bill that punished selling marijuana more than being trafficing child pornography, and that the Tory government has suppressed poll data that says 70% of Canadians support legalization.

That it used its majority to push through Bill C-51, which is in violation of the privacy section of Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and has even been denounced by the agencies it is empowering as being unnecessary for them to effectively combat terror.

He has also used that same majority to push through the TPP, which I don't even want to get started on, there's so many things wrong with it (the part about our MP's, and us the people, not being allowed to fucking read it being top among them).

You know, the fun thing about this is:

If the CPC wins (even a minority), then it'll feel like a "come from behind" victory and be even more enthusing for the supporters. Meanwhile, the LPC supporters which were emotionally set up for a stunning victory would be faced with a sudden shock. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of them lacrimating all over the place. Both figurative and literal meanings.
