It's not legal but Sea Shepherd don't care because they're no cucks.

The Nips COULD sink them but they since they're a nation of cuckolds they lack the ballls.

Hell no, they've been port jumping every few months because countries refuse to let them flag from their ports.

Keel Laid for Sea Shepherd’s ‘Dream Ship’ at Damen - October 13, 2015

>The keel has been laid for the new flagship of the controversial marine wildlife conservation organization, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, at Damen Shipyards Antalya in Turkey.

>Sea Shepherd touts the vessel as their “dream ship”, capable of achieving speeds that “far exceed” any of the vessels in the organization’s fleet.

>Sea Shepherd ordered the new ship earlier this year after winning 8.3 million euros in the postcode lotteries in the Netherlands. The vessel appears to be a modified Damen Fast Crew Supplier, a line of purpose-built vessels from Damen Group featuring the innovative Sea Axe hull form and known for their seakeeping and fuel efficiency.

>>
>>27558039
i grew up on a farm with cows, and there were whales in the fjord outside my house all the time. I've been enough around both.

Really, the ethics of whaling all depends on what kind of whales you hunt. Blue whale is a big no, since they're threatened by extinction, minke whales are a whole other deal, since there's shitloads of them.

Sure, whales have some sort of intelligence, and can be empathic towards each other. But pigs are also smart as fuck, we eat them. Crows are smart as fuck, and we kill them.

Whales are not some super special unicorn that deserves more protection than other animals. If they're not threatened, kill them, if they're threatened, don't kill them.

Only reason i don't eat whale, is because it simply doesn't taste all that good.
>>
>>27558095
They arrested a couple people that boarded a ship.

They also throw stink bombs onto ships.

I'm fairly certain that ramming, boarding, and chemical weapons are all offenses that would allow one to take defensive actions.

I don't have a problem with hunting non-endangered species at all, if it's done consciously and with the populations in mind (like with deer in the USA).

Indiscriminate hunting of endangered species though is a different matter.

Doesn't mean I think the Sea Shepherds are right. They're assholes who care more about publicity than actually reducing whaling. The only people who can stop them are the international community in general.

While they are doing a lot of illegal shit, like boarding other ships without permission and avoiding the law by porthopping.. they do get illegal fishers out too, not just the whaling kind..
And the Japanese have a borderpatrol fleet that is going against them to protect the whalers, there have been collisions and some of the artsy shitty ships they had have even sunk.

They are not organized and most of their crews are new to the sea, idealistic ecohippies that can maybe last one year.

All in all, I think you should look more at greenpeace, they board ships illegally, porthop and endanger sea oil operations.. and if they keep doing it, they will eventually cause an oil spil eco disaster, the very same thing they are lip servicing of trying to prevent...
>>
>>27558579
so, you're fine with how Norway does their whaling, and not how Japan does theirs.

Norway don't hide behind "muh research vessel", they're pretty open about how they hunt whales for food, and they don't hunt endangered whales.

Why, though? The presumption is that more biodiversity is better, but that has yet to be justified. A whale species on the verge of collapse will not have much effect on the ecosystem if driven to extinction, since such a small population doesn't really do much. And since the ecosystem is complex and generally has redundancy, the effects will be balanced out after a few generations.

Not really. It's not like Japan has a large whaling fleet since it's supposed to be for "research". If the Yushin Maru is the primary harpoon ship, that's the one the hippies are going to be harassing constantly. There's no point throwing shit at the factory ship.
>>
>>27562025
I may hate hippies, but whales are pretty cool.

I support environmental conservation as long as it involves really cool animals.

The one thing that bugs the shit out of me about the Sea Shepard people is that they haven't managed to make contacts with the yakuza and arrange for whalers to start being found dead.

Thats a good fucking question. I've been reading through the list of actions that they have done for the last 40 years and they are literally terrorists.

>Sea Shepherd spent part of 1979 hunting for the whaling ship Sierra... To increase the effect of a ramming, the bow of the Sea Shepherd was filled with approximately 100 tonnes of cement. In July, the Sierra was found off the port of Oporto, Portugal. Sea Shepherd put non-essential crew ashore and manned by three crew, returned to ram and cripple the Sierra. The Sea Shepherd then attempted to reach the United Kingdom, but was intercepted by the Portuguese Navy and escorted back to Oporto. The Sierra was able to make it back to port for extensive repairs In Oporto.

>Watson decided to scuttle the ship rather than have it be sold for scrap and potentially used to compensate the owners of the Sierra

>While in Lisbon in February 1980, the Sierra was sunk with limpet mines.

>In a 2004 interview Paul Watson said, "Meanwhile, the Sierra had been repaired and was ready to return to sea. It never did so: on February 6, 1980, my crew blew the bottom out of her and permanently ended her career. We traded a ship for a ship, but it was a great trade because we also traded our ship for the lives of hundreds of whales."

>In April 1980, explosives were used to sink the whalers Isba I and Isba II in Vigo, Spain. Watson said that the boats were "victims of magnetic mines, one of them homemade, which had been planted by the same trio that destroyed the Sierra." Sea Shepherd does show these vessels on the tally of vessels "sunk" on the side of the Farley Mowat and the back of some Sea Shepherd shirts. The whalers Susan and Theresa are also shown on these tallies.

>In November 1986, The Hvalur 6 and Hvalur 7, two of the nation's (Iceland) four whaling ships, were sunk by opening their seacocks while they were moored in Reykjavík harbor.

>which is why they don't try these kind of stunts with the Russians

>In July 1981, The Sea Shepherd II sailed for the Bering Sea with the intention of harassing the Soviet whaler Sevetny. The IWC had authorized a Soviet take of 179 migrating whales off the Siberian coast.[62] On August 10, the group photographed what they considered an illegal whaling operation at an onshore packing plant.[63] The Sea Shepherd II was pursued towards American waters by Soviet helicopter gunships and a frigate. The Soviets signaled for the Sea Shepherd vessel to stop, dropped flares on the deck, and attempted to foul its propeller.[64] The Sea Shepherd II remained in the area for several days despite the Soviet warning of "decisive action" and potential espionage charges.[65]

>In the summer of 1982, Watson offered a reporter an exclusive story on the group's plan to ram a Soviet vessel. The reporter informed authorities and the ramming did not take place.[66] On September 13, 1982, Watson dropped paint filled light bulbs from an airplane onto a Soviet vessel to protest the country's whaling.[67] The ship was positioned off the coast of Washington state's Cape Flattery and believed to have been monitoring a nearby submarine base.[68] Watson and Sea Shepherd were charged with violations of Canada's Aeronautics Act. The charges were dismissed by a provincial court judge because they did not specify where the act had occurred.[69]

Its fucking amazing that this man is not dead or in prison for life. I want to think its just dumb luck and not actually being talented in this sort of thing because he is literally dumber than a bag of hammers.

Don't get me wrong I hate the japs, and I also hate hippies .
But what I really hate in this world is whales. Why?, Because I spent half a year having to make fucking bronze whales for people that like whales WAY too much.
These fuckers would spend 6 to 7 thousand dollars on a fucking bronze whale. The worst part is that each whale needed to be "perfect". I would spend 2 hours on average making sure that the whales junk, yet alone the days to make the fucker. oh and these fuckers knew there whale junk. They would send anything back that did not have the "feeling" of a whale. What the fuck dose that even mean? do they summon dead whales in the fucker, or have weird sex to it? I will never know, but I know the whales must pay!

I don't even like the sea. I swore I would never get back on a ship, but to help people to kill whale I would go back to the bitch they call the sea.

If it doesn't have a shipping registry it doesn't matter. The only landlocked country that has one of those is Mongolia, and they'll probably do anything if you give them a portable stove.
>>
>>27562658
That doesn't matter if you can just defend from any boarders. Your only real problem will be from a navy and having a nations flag won't do jack shit to stop them from boarding you.
>>
>>27562796
Pretty sure you will have any nations navy try to arrest your crew as soon as you try to go to port in any civilised nation or are seen by a naval vessel anywhere.

>>27562788
If you piss off a country enough they will send a naval force after you, flag or not. Registry doesn't really matter.

The US will prosecute you for crimes committed abroad. As in US laws.

If you attack a ship and murder the crew in the middle of the ocean you can still be prosecuted when you get home. Your only chance is to do it quick and destroy the evidence or sink the ship.

If they get a distress signal out you can bet your ass the nearest warship will be on its way flank speed.
>>
>>27562746
is it because of the chemicals in the pool ?

>>27557622

>>
>>27562796
>having a nations flag won't do jack shit to stop them from boarding you
Not true. Having a flag requires them to at least have pretext to stop you and then board you. If you aren't flying a flag of convenience, it'll usually keep you from being harassed if you're not committing a crime. If you aren't flying a flag, however, you can be boarded and arrested at any time by any warship. They don't even need a reason, and in fact I believe they're encouraged to do so.
>>
>>27562822
I was talking about just having a shit without registry or flag BEFORE we start doing things that get us noticed enough to have arrest orders and seizure of the vessel.
>>
>>27562056
the Yakuza would never side with dirty Gaijin
>>
>>27562837
No doubt if you upset them enough , but I'm just saying that from the get go , if you sail a vessel with no registry or flag , you are not legal and will be fucked over by the first navy or coast guard vessel that spots you.

Enjoy being charged with piracy and losing your vessel even before you /k/ it up.
>>
>>27562861
Yakuza aint shit compared to the Triads.
>>
>>27562840
Well unless the nation of the ship that is being boarded is going to do anything about it, unlikely, it really doesn't help.

The US navy can and will board any ship they want if they feel it will stop a crime or in some way help them. So what if the registry country objects. What are they gonna do?

Same thing applies for other countries navies, the US won't give a flying fuck if on of our ships is stopped and searched if a country believes illegal activity is going on. And there is nothing we can do unless we are there. and we won't unless we think it is irrational, like iirc Iran stopped and boarded one of our ships for shits and giggles.
>>
>>27557341
There is no international state, therefore there is no international law. International law is simply what individuals nations feel like doing on a given day. And no I am not being edgy, I bet you thought Interpol has police officers ? Wrong Interpol has no agents to make arrests with.
>>
>>27562895
As I said, they have to have PRETEXT. Navies can't just randomly board and seize ships for shits and giggles; that's how wars are started.
>>
>>27562895
>>27562840
But let me rephrase. I agree with what you are saying. Having a flag will deter a search a BIT more than having none. Especially if it is a powerful flag. But only if your aren't commuting s crime.

as an australian/shitposter I can explain it to you really simply

there is a big treatie about whaling signed by heaps and heaps of countries
japan signed a nuber of such treatise, and jus breaks them willy nilly
they have also been whaling in other countries territorial waters
the reason they do this is because the Japanese have a latent fear of not being able to support their population, and of loosing their traditions; so for Japanese politicians it's an easy sell

many austalians have a strong will to protect the environment, and form a voting bloc
the sea shepard is a bunch of eco-terrorists, who try to stop the japenese, and only the japenese
many australians support the sea Shepard

the sea shepard has been enormously sucessful in it's roll, stopping the entire japenese whaling fleet at some times, and saving countless whales

what makes this issue intractable is that the sea sheapard is doing something the australian navy would be perfectly within their rights to do, so any attack on the sea sheapard would be seen as an attack on australian maritime authority; which would draw a slew of critisizm from a large number of asian and euro countries

>tldr she sheapard is doing australia's navy's job for them, australia prefers this "unofficial enforcement" , and the japenese can't do shit because they are breaking the law and have no navy
>>

they need attention to gain funding, as the government can't bee seen to directly support them because of the grey area they fall into

and they have actually been really effective, they used to just ride up the ass of the japenese so they blocked the chutes the whales were drawn up

they also shielded whales with their ships at enormous risk

>>27563263
that is more or less true, however that was when sea shepard too a much more aggressive line
also there were serious consequences for japan, many small asian countries saw japan as an aggressor because of it

australians are even more reluctant to give japan our defence contracts for submarines

No, anon, they really haven't. They've briefly interfered with one ship at a time out of over a dozen, and that's one ship for about 10% of the time. The other 90% of the time, they're looking for a ship to mess with. Meanwhile, the factory keeps churning meat.

Pretty much this. Destroyer Captains would put Ragu out of business pleading to be the ship sent to deal with a modern pirate in a ship large enough to call for the 5" cannon.
>>
>>27563416

If they were in it for change, the Steve Irwin would have a deck gun and the factory ship would have been sunk long ago.

Losing one of those would put the whalers out of business for at least a year. A factory ship cannot be cheap or easy to replace.

SS claims they are willing to die for the whales, but why they haven't taken an action that would A) ensure real change, at least for a while and B) very likely result in Atago or some other Japanese warship coming down and murdering them all tells us all we need to know about them.

They are not about change, they are about attention. They are sea-SJWs.

Because SS is allowed to get away with all they have without real repercussions, someone will one day buy a ship, mount a deck gun and a pair of 50s on her and really go after whalers or some other group on the high seas.

Am I the only one who thinks these guys are badass for taking the law into their own hands?

I don't even care what the nips do or how much fucked up shit they are into, but the fact that these people got off their asses and did something about a problem that bothers them is commendable.

Most people will sit around and bitch for their entire lives, and they never do anything. Not these guys, they live to harass the shit out of people on the other side of the world in cool looking boats
