I want to buy a new rifle but I'm not sure what I should get.
I'm looking for something semi-auto,centerfire that is good for home protection and SHTF while also using a ammo type that will not break the bank for target shooting, Tacticool bullshit and ease of maintenance is a plus for me.
I am looking to spend no more than a grand.
What should I get /k/?

Entry level AR
S&W makes a solid entry one for pretty cheap.
5.56 isn't going to open up a can of lawsuits like .308 or the like if you're using it in a densely urban area.
Or you can just go WASR 10 for around same price.

ARs are fun and reliable. Can Be had pretty cheap. The dpms Oracle .308 is about $800 on sale near me, so you got that too.

Either 5.56 or 7.62 but I would be open to any caliber that is cheap enough for me to go to the range once a week without hurting my wallet too much.
