>>25557814
theres a sizeable number of westerners in active battles (sarrin, south of kobani; tal tamr, west of hasakah city, sinjar, al bashir) right now. pic related was taken on the northern outskirts of mosul
a few guys were rejected by the YPG because they had no combat experience at all and couldn't aim for shit lol

future's looking bright for the YPG and the people they protect. syrian government has put on the table an autonomy offer, granted they still perform checkpoint duties and work together on getting industry in the northeast running again. Hasakah and Qamishli are cities that once had thriving industry, but now have resorted to the basics. within that autonomy, there was a mention of citizenship for foreign fighters if they desired. if everything goes through, these guys will be offered special citizenship in the country for fighting
>>25561968
I've previously asked about foreign volunteers in the YPG, so do they pretty much just use them for PR and guarding the rear? Because if so then how did the 3 who've died so far (Aussie, Greek guy, and that one German woman) get killed?

So hold up, is it theoretically possible for me as a 20 year old American to fly over and personally fight ISIS?
>>25563933
It is, you just need to find a way to join the kurds and the fighting zone.
It's easier if you already have someone over there, I remember an article about this French craftsman gone over there for six months because he has family in Iraq, he went back to France a few months ago after participating in a few battles.
From what I saw, you get the ammo, food and weapons, then you have to buy your own protective gear and optics. YOU ARE NOT PAID FOR IT, it's volunteer work.
>>25561907
Oh the Kurds are going to love that t shirt.
>>25564308
Yeah I realize I wouldn't get paid for it.
I honestly feel that fighting ISIS is a noble cause. I'm actually disappointed that the US has been willing to kill goat farmers for the last decade but aren't willing to fight against a group that's legitimately fucked up.
While I'm in good physical health and fitness and know my way around an AK, I don't speak the local language and deep down I'm a lazy American. If someone rolled out the red carpet for me and set everything up, I would honestly get on the plane and go. But that won't happen.
So no ISIS killing for me at this time.
Because I actually have a future not worth getting shot at in derkistan for

>>25568896
answering the other question, yeah they're pesh volunteers. though, lately they've been asked to direct US volunteers towards the YPG and HDP-Star as they're trying to turn the peshmerga into more a professional army than simply fighters that do a lot of guerilla warfare. notice in a lot of their recent videos they have combined arms, infantry assisted convoy movements, better squad tactics when compared to a year ago. YPG and other groups are a hell of a lot more unrefined and varied but they're still good fighters

for americans, the way our government portrays Iraqi forces, FSA, assad's forces and IS make it difficult for the average person to get behind a faction in the conflict. kurds are that "fourth faction", most people hadn't even heard of them until kobani and mosul/sinjar
PKK in syria is more libertarian than leftist. syrian government is ensuring that by putting their cantons on paper. like I noted earlier the ongoing negotiations that started last week could mean that anyone who fights and lives in their little cantons are given citizenship
I guess, in a way, you could start up a different life if you wanted to, provided you don't get captured by a snackbar before this is over
reason I support the YPG is because of their taking the fight to IS and their alliances with the assyrians/yazidis. they want to take the fight to raqqa - I say let them

on the table is 150 but the actual numbers are more like 250-260. they're the only ones qualified to handle the heavy artillery they brought with them when the kobani campaign was first heating up. they are often attached to the YPG/FSA squads they they send out to the hundreds of objectives (villages, factories) that surround the city so they can call shit in. they've done 4 shifts now, with the current shift (culminating in the siege of the city of Sarrin to the south) being probably the last
there are also peshmerga artillery units in hasakah, helping out near tal tamir and tal brak

The big risk is that you end up fighting for or with a group that ends up on a EU/US list of terrorist organisations.
A friend of mine fought in Croatia in one of the ad hoc militias and returned to England before they were incorporated into the Croatian Army. He had some serious trouble with the police when he was identified in a photograph stood with a man wanted for war crimes. Nothing came of it but it wasn't a nice time for him.
Basically, you go and fight for these people and even if you make it back alive you better hope that they don't do anything that pisses off western intelligence down the line.
>>25575287
I heard on the radio, the American government was trying to convict one guy for something to do with terrorism using a weapon of mass destruction, because he used an RPG against 'the so-called Islamic State'
>>25575344
I saw a story about that. Turns out the government thought he was working with a terrorist group, and they were surprised that he was being so cooperative about it, but then they realized he was working with the US backed rebels in Syria, and now they are trying to charge him with simple weapons smuggling or something retarded because they fucked up and invested way too much into fucking him to go away with out something to show for it. That government intelligence brah.
>>25575344
Think of it this way. No matter what IS do to people, you've got a history with a Kurdish militia. That Kurdish militia will have all sorts of links and activities to things that pretty much every country in the western world will consider terrorist or fanatic.
If you want a bit of war then you're probably best off going to Ukraine. I wouldn't recommend that either, but it's the safer choice in terms of legality.
