Had a great thread the other day on starting a /k/ommune sort of thing by taking over an abandoned town. Now we need to find one that is suitable to our needs. Hopefully the guy who originally had the idea can come back and share some info.

Here's what it'll need to have/be:
Far away from other cities
Lot's of forest/Desert around it
Have buildings that aren't completely destroyed
Be able to support roughly 100 people to start with I'd assume
Having plumbing and electricity already installed would be nice

Anything else?
>>
>>24863626
It's a nice idea but will probably never happen

I still remember when we talked about this shit all the time
>>
>>24863626
There is a place like that just outside Kingman AZ. were a few intact houses up there about a year ago, and what was left of an underground bunker.
>>
>>24863721
>and what was left of an underground bunker.
YES
>>
So who here has actual skills?

I'm sure most of /k/ can form a decent police force/militia, but what about how the other technical stuff we need.

We need to find someone who if not living there can come and teach us important skills.
>>
>>24863794
I can do carpentry at a reasonable level, weld, am very competent at mechanicing cars, and a fair few other jack of all trades type things.

But if someone can into a green card for me, then I'm in

>>24863721
Can you find it on google maps? I wanna see this. It sounds perfect.

If we actually did this I or some other /k/ommando would be willing to marry you.

Post pics in dress please
>>
>>24863760
Don't get too jizzed. It was just a 20' shipping container buried about 10 feet down.. According to the story I heard, back in the early 80;s a survivalist group moved into the area, and set up a community. When I first went up there about 6 years ago, it looked like the people just walked off, and left everything behind. Canned food, ammo, clothes, you name it. But no guns. The last time I was there was about a year ago. The local tweekers trashed the place. But it was mostly intact.

Why an abandoned town? Why not an atlas missile silo complex and the surrounding property?
>>
>>24863626
Ok so I'm not the guy from the other thread but I have some thoughts.

Abandoned towns are often abandoned for a reason, and without fairly constant influxes of cash or resources are going to stay abandoned. If we want to start a town from scratch in a productive/desirable area that's one thing, but refurbishing a town that's been abandoned for a while is going to be much harder, especially if it's off the grid or has no indoor plumbing.

The state and federal government is not going to take kindly to a bunch of squatters taking up residence in an abandoned area, especially if there are firearms involved and the squatters could potentially be misconstrued as some sort of militia. If you want /k/ town it needs to be a productive, fully-functioning town that has either been built from the ground up, or has been completely re-furbished. This is going to mean purchasing the property that we want this town to sit on. Also, a lot of you are going to need to cool it with the "shall not be infringed" rhetoric. We don't need a repeat of Waco. This will need to be a fully-functional, independent town with the most serious gun club in the country. We need to learn the local laws and ordnances (including property laws, firearms laws, health and safety laws, etc.) and we need to follow them to the best of our ability.

Towns don't just spring up. We'll need money to fund this town. We'll need to figure out where this money will come from and how we're going to implement it. We'll obviously need a treasury with an elected treasurer and some serious oversight.

Fire/EMS and Law Enforcement are often required by the state and will be required to abide by state laws and protocols. They are also often a part of a state-wide infrastructure. We will need a fire station with at least an engine and an ambulance and a police station with a fleet of squad cars. (cont'd)

>>
>>24864001
These will need to function according to state and federal law and will be overseen by state and federal government.

Many of you are not actually going to want to live here. I know a lot of people are going to be super excited about the idea of living in a town founded by members of /k/ but after a few weeks of building/refurbishing houses and donating all of your income to the cause a lot of you are going to be ready to call it quits. This most likely won't be a huge problem if we actually have the money/resources to maintain the town despite the high level of resident turn-over. If we have a core group of individuals who are actually willing to live in the town and maintain it indefinitely, the rest of us can visit the town as we please and spend our tourist dollars there.

We should get the NRA or other gun lobbies involved. The prospect of a town that consists entirely of people who value the second amendment could be worth some serious charitable donations.

Plumbing/electricity and building construction all have to be done to a code and by people qualified to d that kind of work, and I don't mean "oh i did an addition on my house i could totes help build these houses yo." I mean people who have earned a license to do that. You will need professional architects and engineers, plumbers, construction workers, and electricians and the resources to supply them.

I'll post more thoughts as I think of them, but that's probably it for now. The money is the big obstacle. With enough of it you could buy land wherever you want and build whatever you wanted. A town takes a lot of money and resources to run. More money than probably any of you will see in your lifetime.

If we pitch to people correctly, its existence alone is worth money to people. If we get some FFLs involved, start a shooting range and license it to rent full-autos, tanks, etc. it's worth some serious tourist dollars as well. As I said, most of you won't want to live here, but being able to open carry without being harassed, shoot cool shit at the range, and visit the surplus stores that we put up, most of you will definitely want to visit and spend money.

I like the island idea. You could build a resort with a premier golf course and shooting range. This could fund our little /k/ommune. There are several uninhabited islands on the Carolina coast. Look up dafuske island in south Carolina. The island survives on tourist dollars from the resort and people who take a ferry over from Hilton head. We could use this model to build a gun owners resort.

????!!!!!!!!!!!....this can actually work if our "town" had an economy to support it --( something or some industry that it preformed to make money and keep the town going)--

why would you take over an abandoned town. is it so its like a military shit? cuz then ur just gonna get waco'd.

if 100 people can donate 5000 then thats 500,000 dollars. You could buy a big ass piece of land and a fuckload of concrete. Make some efficiency style small bunkers with personal gardens. Each man sustain his own food. Make a blacksmith and a main bunker and storage. Cutting down the woods will provide you with a fuckload of lumber. Surround the place with a ring of woods with one fat patch of dense forest. Surround this shit with fences. Build concrete vehicle defenses like jack-style tank barriers and toblerones. Build a nice firing range of course. Farm grains and corn for beer and liquor and bread.

Why take over an abandoned town when you can legally make a bunker village with a stocked pond and game preserve.

Wow guess I finally threw out something that stuck nice.
Been playing with these threads for years now and it usually revolves around retirement by swat team/ hellfire. But this assumes we are important enough to justify the budget cost.
Laws are easy to follow and easier to side step legitimately. It's almost like they where all written to manipulate the lowest common denominator with the least amount of effort by mediocre minds. It's really not hard to play nice and still have fun (funs).

That's why I started suggesting doing it legit.

In the past I've suggested homesteading deserted autonomous zones like "The Mesa" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgTGPJtvmS8 or "Slab City" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpPmT7S4zHE.
Then I tried suggesting out right manufacturing our own nomadic island chain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_Island
Converting moving trucks into rolling fortress RVs - /k/ gypsy caravan and restarting the "Great American Traveling Gunshow" all Wild Bill style but with a modern flare. Like a /k/ Rainbow Family/dead head/phish circuit.

I figure if bums and burnouts can do it like shit why can't /k/ do it in style?

Beat me to it. Dat earth brick machine, Dat modular utility tractor, Dat powercube!

Keep in mind we live in an age where automated closed loop farming is doable, most of our primary devices nowadays run of less that 12 volts, solar is cheaper than ever, processing/ refining garbage into fuel is a backyard project now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o5M6v1eD4I.
Cracking fuel vapor triples gas mileage lowers engine temp and can even let you run engines of old.
Atmospheric condenser = dehumidifier on steroids with built in water filter/conditioner means you can produce perfect water from even desert air.
Turns out dead car batteries can be rebuilt using alum (pickling salt) instead of acid and can be built from scratch with lead and cloth.
I live in 2015 anyone else?

My idea is build the town up into a group owned theme park thing. Kinda like a carnival that each ride is owned by the individual operator running under a universal banner.

A /k/ themed town with real deal ranges, training facilities, but with themed areas for re-enactment groups/roleplayers/ best birthday weekend ever etc (civil war, ww trenches, castles, wasteland etc) with the appropriate facilities/infrastructure for camping several hundred at a time for events. SCA wars are awesome and (once again) a good source of sexually permissive women who are down with innawoods, fighting, and sweaty guys!

But i do dream of roller coaster track shooter kill houses. Cuz I want to get a picture of my war face riding a coaster sideways blazing away at animated reactive targets (like splash mountain with an AR). Real life Metro coaster anyone?

Build up main street into an open air gun show with Kyber pass feels for the selling of our manufactured goods and acquired surplus.

Set up a "bed and breakfast" (cot and MRE) outpost tent city for newbs and guests looking for the /k/ommando life experience.

Make it a destination location with a small number of permanent residents, a bunch of timeshare bunkers/tiny fortresses (/k/ tiny house), and big multiple annual events.

Being "off the grid" should be a matter of economics. We have alternatives that just work better. Like why pay for phone lines when a sat link is about the same price if not cheaper than copper (gotta love the future).
Collecting grant money and green points for doing so is an economic factor to consider too. Round us up a bunch of slaves erm unpaid interns receiving valuable real word life experience and college credits in exchange for work/ servitude?

We got grownups running books/ paperwork, we got seasonal help, we got some folks that build up a bunker/houses and then rent it out for most of the year, we got the manufacturers and associated handyfolks, we got ride/range operators, we got patch covered autistic zerg faced armed "travel guides" dragging tourists around the zones.

There is a place for everyone.

I was the anon suggesting we start with a small group buying a farm and trying to make the land profitable. It'd be easier for a small group, less than 12 to seriously put the money together for the land. Then kommandos could come on as a temporary/seasonal basis. See if they like it without having to drop everything and move.

/k/ has the skills that if we can get just a few well motivated people to start this, many others will join.

We need 3 things.

1. Leadership (the small group to make basic plans. Buying the land, creating logistics, formulating goals /short/med/long term)
2. Kommandos willing to come on board. Even just for a summer. Getting to know people in person really lets you know who is serious and what they can do to help.
3. Expansion. Once you have the land and skilled labor you need to pick a direction and go into it. Whether its farming, shooting range, FFL, or a combination of those and other ideas. You need a way to sustain the kommunity. Upkeep costs (electricity, water, property taxesl, expansion costs (building a range, farm equipment, livestock, ammo, reloading supplies) and wages/ compensation for kommandos that work.

With the right planning and leadership, this is more practical than most realize. Buying an island might be a poor man's dream, but a farming/firearm kommunity is something we can actually do.

ah..no..... actually, a shortcut with fuel, food, parking (like for 18 wheeler's and all the tour bus's taking people from LA-X to the grand canyon ), hotels, and the like. is a better way to make money at the start.

I'm going to talk to a couple people and what we can put together. These two threads have renewed my interest and I'm happy to see some grounded plausible ideas.

I'm going to talk to some people and see what feedback I get. Land in Wyoming/Nevada is pretty affordable, but takes a lot of work to make use of. With enough kommandos though it can be done.

Hell I found 40acres in Nevada for $7000. I'll see what I can with actual research.

Step 1: Someone buys a house in said abandoned town and moves into it. That person is now in charge of establishing the framework of government.

Step 2: A talented and experienced gun smith moves in next door. Through his own pocket or community funding, he has a machine shop and a license to fabricate and modify firearms.

Step 3: Construct a shooting range appropriate for any and all /k/ommandos. Make youtube videos demonstrating the reliability and accuracy of these superior /k/ firearms on said range.

Step 4: Manufacture and distribution of legal hand made firearms generate revenue for the city. Other business move in to feed, clothe and house the skilled laborers at the machine shop. A public house would be most likely to open its doors, as its uses are wide ranging and essential.

Step 5: With more income and a larger population, the town will eventually become incorporated with legitimate government recognition. A true /k/ paradise will be on its way.

Why not buy a private island in international waters? An actual island though, artificial islands/structures have no territorial waters of their own, and as such can be claimed by a ruling body.

Get diplomatic recognition from a nearby country and boom presto, you're a country free to make your own laws. The only trouble then is setting up a working government, internet, housing, plumbing, irrigation, and food.

OP any city in California's central valley will fit the bill. Modesto or Turlock would be ideal because of the existing gun stores there. Homes are cheap as shit because the economy is falling out of the floor there due to the Drought, only issue is getting non-PG&E water.

Seriously though, if you want to do this all you need is $500,000; half for land and the other half for mobile homes/water hookup/food. I actually live near a christfaggot commune up here in the mountains outside of Colfax. It's easy to do, the only issue is that you'd actually need to interact with people in real life. I'm not sure if anyone on /k/ will actually go that far especially ones that have actual lives.

>>24875799
>k town
>in california
you didn't think this through, did ya ?
>>
>>24874722

because islands are hugely expensive, travel there would be expensive and getting water/food would be difficult

however, if someone had some real balls we could buy a disused oil rig and park it exactly 12 miles off the coast. Ideally, you'd do this offshore of California where the water is moderately warm (no ice) but there aren't any hurricanes as there are in the gulf

but the problem with all of this is that you need a lot of navy/boat/seascout types to do this properly
>>
>>24875816

land is cheap outside of the big cities and California leads the US in "hate groups" and survivalist communes

yeah it's shit but it's the right type of shit for what op wants to do. Setting up a /k/ trailer park off the Sacramento River is doable. We could even rent out space to homeless people, as long as we setup showers/garage for them the surrounding area would be grateful and we could register as a charity to avoid taxes. Only problem is that you're living inside Detroit: desert edition
>>
>>24875858

fuck we could even do it on an abandoned naval base, complete with shelter, river access and utility hookups:

http://www.portofstockton.com/properties-available

http://www.loopnet.com/California/Stockton-Commercial-Real-Estate/

though more likely we'd do it just south of Stockton, problem is that KB Homes is already building something there so shit's expensive so land would easily cost 700k-1,000,000

An abandoned naval base would be 10/10 perfect.
/o/tard here again, we could hold car events to raise money from that. Drifters love having places to slide, and so if it was a $10 fee or whatever to come skid around the place (and a navy base is perfect) then I think that would net some decent profit.

too bad it's not for sale because the Navy is the Navy and CA real estate politics is a fucking nightmare

but like he suggested doing it somewhere in the marshland between Concord and Stockton is probably our best bet. Some place on Sherman Island or Jersey Island would be great, as long as we didn't develop it beyond a handful of trailer homes and garages. If we setup a dock we can setup a marine gas station just inbetween SF and Sacramento. Don't know if anyone is actually selling land out there though.

Alternatively, we could go full retard and buy something directly on the coast down near Watsonville or Monterrey. It's incredibly secluded because Californians stick to the 99 and I-5 corridors.
>>
>>24876053
Problem with that is that it's California and the laws there suck ass
>>
>>24875977

PG&E is the company/beast/demon that manages California's water utility service. Having something separate from them would be nice, but the state's been very anal retentive on well drilling because of the Drought.

But I like the idea here better >>24876053 having access directly to sea/bay water means that we can desalinate it as long as we don't hurt the Delta Smelt.
>>
>>24876073

I don't see anyone proposing any better. All I know is that you can get lots of acreage for cheap and you don't have to worry about freezing in the winter. Also easy access to jobs, because some people here might have one.

Honestly if I had to take a stance on this the IDEAL place for a /k/ompound would be near the great lakes but I don't know any specifics up there. Maybe /k/ could buy out half of Gary, spend a weekend razing it, and turn it into a managed wildlife area with a /k/amp in it.

>>
>>24864220
Damn near shit myself
>>
>>24863626
>>24863794

Firstly, 100 people is far too liberal an estimate. The Rhodie camo guy only got 500 out of 1500 signups and that's just for maybe $100 worth of fashion. If someone here was actually serious about making a /k/ompound, they'd be lucky to get five or six people if that.

Secondly, the #1 thing you need for this project are tradesmen, specifically carpenters, plumbers, and electricians. And you need someone to manage them too.

Thirdly, if the /k/ompound is built what exactly is it going to be? A tourist trap? A christian commune? A hippie yurt community? How will the person in charge determine who is allowed to live there? How will it's residents make money? What happens if too many people want to live there, especially if they're not from /k/? I'm talking about homeless people and drifters in particular. If the goal is to be just a self-sufficient community, then how much money is everyone required to invest? Will rent be charged?

Fourthly, what about security? If a member lives on it with his family and beats his wife will the others rat him out? If someone's kid turns out to be a jugalo/trash what then? Are those kids sent to normal school or are they homeschooled? What happens if someone is illegally making NFA items and selling them?

I really don't mean to be a cynical fuck but all these issues must be addressed before any field work is done. From what I reckon, the best chance at a "successful" /k/ompound would be a trailer park with a large workshop and a greenhouse. The biggest issue would be whether or not it's residents would actually commit the rest of their lives to it or if it would fizzle out after 5-6 years leaving the property owner broke. Of course this issue is somewhat negated if you pick a property near a city.
>>
>>24869306

this was exactly my first thought
>>
>>24876229

not op but the easiest way to make a /k/ompound would just be a trailer park with a communal workshop inside an existing rural town.
>>
>>24876229
>>24876261

it'd be a trailer park with a workshop/greenhouse and with a game/wildlife preserve next to it. You'd need at least 500 acres for a good sized one though.

it could work, only question is where

why do everyone hate us?

Britbong here. I can't just up and leave my life here but spending a couple of months a year in the states would be fun as fuck. If this gets up and running I would love to stay with you guys and do manual labour or general handyman stuff in return for food, ammo and a place to stay. The only problem is the paperwork required to ship funs overseas is buttfuck retarded so I will be noguns unless a fine /k/ommando would be willing to let me use one of theirs.

Michigan has a ton of cheap land in the northern parts. Problem is, most of /k/ could not survive a Michigan winter. We have been colder than the arctic circle this Winter..

I'm in the middle of taking my pilot's license. If it's out in the middle of nowhere, set up a good airstrip for goods deliveries like we did up north. You don't need a dedicated airport. Just a strip, lighting, and a hanger+"terminal" (read, a shack with a desk and maps and appropriate paperworks) and you're good to go.
If the town ever takes off (hue), I'll buy a place right by the airstrip.

How bout the old buckner building in whittier AK? its not really all that isolated, but its on the edge of civilization, and AK doesnt really regulate guns anyway.

it was a fully contained military base all wrapped up in one large building. Its been beat to hell over the years, but the concrete frame is sound
