I like that LOGH is the first, most visible entry. LOGH should be mandatory viewing for all of 4chan.
I'd also recommend Kino's Journey, since it has about as much gun porn as a near-slice-of-life can handle.
There's also dozens of /m/ OVAs and one-shots that should scratch a /k/ommando's itch. Pic related is Maddox, and I'd also recommend The Cockpit.

I'm just gonna keep posting a few webms I think /k/ might like.
I didn't like Clone Wars as much as /co/ seemed to, but there were a few real good, clone-oriented episodes. The Shadow Over Umbara arc was the best part of the show, it was a three-part story about a detachment of clones basically being driven to slaughter by their Jedi general on a misty, jungle-covered planet.
Then there's Jin Roh, which takes a place on literally every single /ak/ recommendation list.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes is literally the best anime series ever made. Star Trek for history nerds, Romance of the Three Kingdoms in space, Napoleonic Wars in space. Watch it, watch the gaiden stories, recommend it to your friends, buy the laserdisc collection like Moot did.

My friend likes it because it's honest with everything. Sure, it's literally a toy commercial, but at least they don't come up with half-assed reasons to have stupidly impractical cool looking robots and a mid-series suit change just to sell more toys.
I really don't like most of the series though just because it ends up being an all-powerful god robot with invincible plot armor by the end of the series (I'm looking at you, SEED).
UC doesn't do that much and at least tries to be within the bounds of reality. Except for the Newtypes that just serve as an excuse to shoehorn a kid into the role of the main character.
