A few words of advice.
If you plan to enter the military, don't get married. Don't get married until after you leave the military.
If you're under the age of 25 you have no business being married or having kids anyhow, don't be a dumbass.
If you're over the age of 25 and you're not an officer, why the fuck are you still in the military?
If you enter the military you don't want to leave a residence behind if you deploy, live cheaply, travel lite, rent somewhere that it's easy to get out of the lease. Before you deploy store your shit with friends or family.
There's plenty of time for wife and kids and career and you get out.
Women don't deal well with their man being gone so long in a situation where she can't know from a day-to-day basis whether he's dead or alive. They will crack, they will cheat, because they are looking for emotional escape.
If you are married and in the military or are a career officer, make sure your spouse has a good support network of friends and family to help her emotionally while you're deployed. Establish a credit line and save money that can help deal with bills and emergencies while you're gone.

Some text based feels, I'll try to keep it short.
My great grandfather flew in the Luftwaffe during the early periods of the war, from what I understand, he was a pretty good guy and a card carrying nazi if only to get the benefits of being associated with the party. He had a pretty wife back in Germany, pregnant with their first child and he was living the high life when everything was looking pretty great.
And then his He 111 was shot down over Britain, they were able to pull off a controlled crash but him and his entire crew saved for the one machine gunned to death in the back were captured by British soldiers.
Cue him surviving the entire war in a Prisoner of War Camp in England, which really isn't that bad. He can't get into contact with family, and he has to sit around while watching his country slowly get dismantled from the outside.
And after the surrender? After the years of sitting around in angst and anxiety? After he finally gets a chance to get back home?
His wife and the child he never knew was killed when the Russians rolled over their village on the way to Berlin. And it hit him, there was absolutely nothing left in Germany for him, the country he had fought for was gone, utterly and totally and his family was dead.
So, he dropped it all and came to America, married a pretty German Immigrant and the rest is history. But holy shit, I can't imagine the feeling that everything you've ever done in life can be so utterly swept away in an instant like that.
