I've been green-texting my silly stories on /k/ over the past couple weeks. This is tales from the gun counter #5. I work part time at a gun counter in a large retail store. I get a good discount, and enjoy the supplemental income. I am enthusiastic about sporting goods, and try my best to help everyone who comes into the store. Some of these stories are slightly exaggerated, this thread is for humor. Once again I'll invite everyone to share any funny gun shop related stories they have as I post my shitty greentext.

FAQ:

Q: Why won't you give .22lr to people, asshole?

A: My store sells plenty of .22lr throughout the week. In order to combat hording of .22lr, we place a limit on the amount of .22lr customers may buy, this limit may change based on how much we have in stock. Ordinarily, we sell bricks of 500 for $26, limit 1 per customer, or boxes of 50rds @ ~$4 limit 3 to 5 per customer. Sometimes we have have bricks of 1000 rounds for $55. This product is in high demand, it is not unusual for customers to buy the limit, then send in three or four friends to buy more for them. Our store wants to provide good customer service, and selling 5,000 rounds to the hoarder who walks in one minute after opening on Monday morning, then having empty shelves all week for the rest of the customers is bad for business. It is also not unusual to find out that customers are interested in buying .22lr in bulk from us then marking it up re-selling it. When you see me green-texting stories in which I tell customers we're all out of .22lr, please keep in mind that we probably just sold out of our ration for the day. We restock the shelves once, or twice per day when we have it, in order to try and spread the love around. I don't hold out on customers just to be a dick. Our store is the best in our area for stocking .22lr and our customers know it, they also understand why we set limits on this ammunition. We have many regulars come in or call to check on our stock.

Has anyone tested a .500 S&W snubby on a Ballistic Gel Torso?

I wonder what the damage would look like

Had a guy come in today, just looking. He was really talkative and everything he saw blew him away like a kid in a candy store.

He asks if I have "those guns they used to protect wagons in the west", I show him a side by side and he looses it. He takes it and starts playing with it like a little girl who was just reunited with a lost doll.

I mention I've got a few old Parker Brothers laying around and ask him if we wanted to see them. He says yes and runs over to them with me. I show him one and tell him how old it is and what not.

He ended up buying $8,000 worth of side by sides five minutes after that. He says he loves my place and he'll be back whenever he can to pick up some new toys. I've already put a desert eagle, M1a and sig 716 aside for him.

Guy owns a law firm, just moved here from where he can't have any guns. Customer of the decade.

He probably just bought a couple of collectable guns.

SxS can be spendy, there is one I more regularly at a fancier fun store in Wayzata. $18,000 on the tag.

Proprietor bullshits with me about it periodically, he told me the other day I could have it for 10 because I would obviously appreciate it, and he paid 8 (meaning 6) for it at an estate sale. It is a custom engraved Parker 16 gauge, this specific gun was in the Encyclopedia of Shotgun Values for several years in the 80s because the previous owner purchased it at Sotheby's for $16,000 in 1982.

I damn near emptied my house down payment fund that day.

No, I resisted the temptation. She still sits there. He says I'm the only one who even looks at it, no one wants a 16 gauge, and those that do normally want an o/u.

I have contemplated starting to buy scratch offs, because I am way to practical to drop 10k on a shotgun I would never be able to bring myself to sell, without it being some kind of stupid windfall, but I can never manage to ask for one because I know how stupid they are.

A gun like that needs to be enjoyed while your eyes are still good. I am looking at land in May, if I can get good terms without a big down payment, I'll buy her as a housewarming gift to myself.

The engraving is an Irish Setter and pheasants on one side, quail on the other, with grouse hidden throughout the scrollwork.

The setter looks just like mine, its uncanny.

The stock is 95% condition, but the metal and bores are fucking perfect.

I love 16 gauge too, I have a Wingmaster, a Sears branded bolt action and an Ithaca SxS.

Hopefully you are talking about the north of north cakalaki, because the the winninest state for Brisket in BBQ championships is actually Minnesota.

>Was it a mini-fridge?
Just a simple freezer-up-top no ice maker fridge, the bottom-of-the-production-line type. It might have weighed 100 pounds. Refrigerators can be very simply built:molded plastic, stamped super-thin sheet metal, and foam insulation is most of it.

Lot of retail stores in Oregon/Washington got gun stores stuck in them.
Mainly Fred Meyer, who sent various employees through quick courses, even if they didn't like guns. While ignoring employees who knew shit about guns.
And managers had to be trained, even if they are antigunners.

OP, glad you started this thread.

I JUST (as in, today) started working at a gunstore/pawnshop/indoor range that just so happens to be an 03FFL (no SOT). And of course I get a hilarious customer in today
>standing at counter, still talking with senior counter guy trying to learn stuff
>shaggy, neckbearded late-20-something guy comes up and asks about suppressors
>what do you want to know?
>"well I saw this one movie, I cant remember what its called, but they had silencers that made the pistols SUPER quiet. Like PZING quiet (actually made the sound with his mouth)"
>yeah sorry that's hollywood bull-erm, I mean, hollywood hype. Suppressors can be quiet but the gunshot's still quite loud
>20 minute "discussion" on what movie it was
>lol zero dark thirty
>guy pulls out phone and apparently gets that it was a Surefire SOCOM can off IMFDB
>says he wants to buy 3 of them
>have to go get NFA-specific guy
>who also happens to be the guy whose sole job is cleaning the range rentals
>we use Sweet's 7.62 so this guy is high as fuck 24/7
>give him quick rundown on customer as I drag him out of back room
>guy actually manages to pass muster, not really sure what all goes into buying a can as I had to go restock stuff
>NFA guy is losing his shit as he comes back
>neckbeard ordered FIVE $1500 suppressors
>apparently admitted his only gun is an SKS
>didn't order the .30cal version, just the 5.56 version
>was giving off so many bad vibes and cheeto-prints the NFA guy never bothered to point this out
>99.999% sure he will never follow through on paperwork and will effectively get screwed out of several hundred in restocking fees since we have to order the cans in
>next customer
>"do you have .22lr?"
>just the CCI shotshells sir
>"do they work in a Ruger Mk2?"
>no
>"I'll buy them all anyway"
>MFW
>ok
>sell the guy $90 worth of garbage ratshot

My LGS is pretty good about that. He never talks about politics or religion or anything at all really if he can help it. I get the vague impression he hates people; he's only open three days a week for 2-3 hours. I feel like we could get along if it weren't for the whole hating people thing.

It varies by county. Here's the Wayne County permit page.

http://www.waynegov.com/Page/391

I don't know if there's any way around it, but I do know that in my county, you have to be a resident for 30 days before you can get a permit.

I am aware, but it is easy for those new to working at an FFL of any type they dont need know what specific type they are. I used to work for A Type 7 FFl which was also an importer so I think I held a type 8 as well. My point being, shits confusing, doesnt instantly make him a liar.
