It has been years since a meteor shower almost destroyed earth. There are no governments, just really small communities created by few survivors. Food is scarce, and earth isn't that green anymore. But there is hope. Svalbard Global Seed Vault is a seedbank on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen near Longyearbyen in the remote Arctic Svalbard archipelago. I happen to have a ship, and I have all the intentions of doing an expedition to that island so I can help my community make earth green again. But I am certain I am not the only one to embark on this expedition, honestly I don't know if we would find the damn vault or if it's already been occupied by another faction. That's why I need guns for hire. Show me what you bringing.

You are now aware that in the last 40 years, the earth has lost 50% of its fauna. We are already in the midst of the 6th major extinction event.
>>
>>23053180

We can convert the cargo hold into crew quarters to supplement what's already there
>>
>>23054948
>>23054933
>>23054909
Let me tell you my story. I was a kid when the meteors started falling. Since I always dreamed of becoming a soldier I joined what was left of the army back then. I fought invaders trying to get to the states but everything went to shit. I managed to join a group of survivors and I've been helping my community ever since.
>>
>>23054779
I'm thinking it's a 110 foot fishing vessel with berthing for 8 plus the captain's quarters, and we've modified the cargo holds to provide additional berthing space for 12 as well as cargo and fuel for the long journey. The fishing gear has been stripped off the ship and we've attached a larger crane, originally a vehicle-based system, to the bow. We have room for 10 snow machines and 5 trucks on the deck, loaded and unloaded by crane. We've also added 2 1000 gallon fuel tanks on the deck.

Since piracy at sea is a real concern in a world without large government, we have 2 70mm artillery pieces on each side of the vessel modified and mounted to serve as deck guns, 10 machine gun emplacements around the ship and a good supply of whatever man-portable rocket launchers we can get our hands on.

Like a made up one for the thread?

When I was 20 I was busted growing pot and told by the judge I could choose between prison or the military. I joined the Navy as a BM and in my third year, while stationed on board the USS Ronald Reagan, the meteors hit. I was driving up the grapevine from my fiancee's house in Madera, an asteroid 3 miles wide hit just north of Bakersfield. The entire San Joaquin valley was nothing but a river of fire.

So there I was, stuck between literal hell on earth with Los Angeles on the other side. I think we've all heard what happened in LA, and I don't like to talk about what I did or saw to get through that city.

I was ambushed in San Diego and, miraculously, taken alive. By a Mexican gang. They took me with them, blindfolded, to a pot farm somewhere in Jefferson.

I was actually on leave with my girl when it all went down. Everything collapsed so quickly I couldn't make it back to the rest of the 1st Recon Bn. Traveled with her and some friends for a few months. Winter hit and she came down with pneumonia, thought I was going to lose her. She pulled through and we managed to secure a small cabin out in the rockies with a few friends. She's still there in good hands, I heard about this expedition and thought I was obligated to at least try to rebuild society. Found this MG3 in my travels, now I'm here. Haven't seen her in months, I really miss her, If we succeed, I'll go get her and bring her to wherever we try to rebuild.

Ok comrade I stop yelling now for story time.
Keep in mind, I am of many alcohol and very bad at story tell as is.
I was born in a small village of Russia. Very bad, many problems. We move to America in hopes of better life when I am of small boy, age 10. Life is better. I love America. Then 7 years later, event happen. Lose many friends, lose home, lose family, lose pet dog. I miss dog. Two years later, I join the fight to keep out bad people like terrorists as heavy gunner man. Lose entire squad to ambush. Not good, very pissed off for years. I am reassigned. I don't give shit. I join the shitty goat fuckers and I slowly take them out from inside. Good day when victory. After this I becoem drifter for several more years until meeting a nice family. They take me in. Very pretty daughter. Father did not approve of us, I am forced to leave. I do not care anymore. I am on my own for another year, surviving, killing, stealing, never giving shit about anyone. Never kill animals like dog or cat. Love dog and cat, very beautiful creatures. recently I find survivor community that takes me in regardless of past. It was good living. I hear word of this expedition you are of heading and I search for you. Now I am of here.

See, almost immediately after the social order broke down, the cartels made a move. Kidnapping thousands of people and enslaving them to work on farms and as sex workers and in drug labs and distilleries. They held a huge swath of the southwest for a while, before they splintered into gangs of raiders and highwaymen or were driven out into the wastes by the people they enslaved. I got out one day when 2 guards got into a fight over one of the girls and one shot the other. He went down and I grabbed his weapon, put a few rounds in the other guard and ran like hell.

I made my way east, scavenging as I went, before I met a small community of Mormons in Utah. They took me in and helped me regain my strength, and gave me some supplies for the journey east.

So, eventually I ended up here. Got myself a plot of land and started growing pot with some seeds I stole from the cartel farm and I make a nice living trading my crop. Don't have anything to farm that's good for eating, though, so when I heard about your plan I figured maybe you could use me.

My Bulgarian works well here in North Dakota, so I think I'll have to bring it.

Other than that, the weather is not much different, so I would just plan for a typical November hunting trip near Canada, where the Canada-ians live, doen cha know.

I have a lot of great solar power solutions. I can sew, and know above average first aid. I also live in the midwest so I'm used to harsh winters. Even outside for entire days at a time.

I was traveling near the canadian US border and came across what could only be described as a graveyard. Hundreds of armoured vehicles, tanks. Does anyone know if Russia in their panic tried a doomed invasion? There was burned out Abrams and Leopard 2s, T80s, t72s. Skeletons....
The skeletons of fallen soldiers....
Sitting inside their decaying clothing and equipment.. It changes you.
I managed to scrounge up this Mg3, a bunch of other weapons and an assload of ammo, most of which is back at the cabin.
I still have trouble sleeping at night. The feeling of having looted the dead. It's unsettling....
I tried to get some of the vehicles working but all were too far in disrepair.
The last thing I did before leaving was finding orders out of a striker command unit. My platoon wasn't listed under the force roster for this operation, it was all I looked for there. But I hope that one day I'll meet another one of my lost brothers out there.

Yes, the Russians attempted an invasion through Alaska and down into Canada, I didn't pay much attention to it because my focus was on New York, but I heard the commanders on the coms freaking out about it, the Canadians with us were deserting left and right to go see if they could find their families.

>>23055788
I'm assuming we stopped it
Just please tell me we didn't send a counterattack, else I'll be making an excursion to Russia.

Also do either of you know if there's any intact information hubs?
I know there's still something left at cheyenne mountain. It's not too far from where my groups is setup and we saw a US (or what's left of it) presence there.
If you can find an intact hub, I could probably get it working long enough to track down where my unit was sent.
I'm just reluctant to parlee with the boys at cheyenne mountain. My security clearance is probably expired.

I'm going to try to write a story about this,

I remember seeing people falling to their deaths from skyscrapers because they were trying to get inside a rescue helo. Manhattan is still flooded to this day, you can't even recognize the city anymore.
>>
>>23055976
Alrighty I have another place to start checking then.
UN do you think between the two of us we'd have enough credentials to get into the cheyenne mountain garrison that's left there?
I still have all my papers and I recognised one of the officers there from a training exercise i did a LONG time ago. Think we'd have a shot?

also you implied correctly but I think it'll take me a few months at least for a rough draft.

Feel free to write whatever you want, but make sure the setting is the same. A destroyed earth by meteors, small communities, survivors, a group of guns for hire join an expedition to search for a vault in an island off the coast of norway which it's content can bring back agriculture...you got the picture.I have good faith in this.

I'm sure after our seed mission at least some of the other guys will be willing to help. I made E5 so we have at least a bit of weight to our names.

I am a research biologist.

Most of my research experience involves human in vitro cell line model and mouse model cancer epigenetics.
I have significant experience with plant genetics as well, however, and spent lots of time as an undergrad in greenhouses nursing plants from seedlings. I also have knowledge of transgenic fundamentals that are used to make modern crops (poly ploidy etc).

If I survive and you find me, maybe I could make some use of those seeds (i.e. cloning, propagating correctly, making sure the seeds will actually germinate). That said I would need access to basic chemistry supplies and preferably a greenhouse in order to work. Who knows, after a few years I could start a agricultural research lab of sorts to increase crop yields.

I also could handle myself outdoors, I am an avid hunter and survivalist.
