I'm building a little kit. I'm going to try bicycling into the woods and seeing if that's a viable option.
I've got an H&R Tamer in 20ga, which breaks down nice and small.
Also got my hatchet, my Mora knife, a ferrocerium rod, an 8x10 tarp, a pocketfull of cordage, and my aluminum canteen and cup.
That's generally all that I carry. I've spent enough time living in the woods to manage fine for days off this loadout.

A metal water bottle, metal so you can boil creek water.get one of them space blankets, a tarp. Peanut butter and tuna packs. I'm already carrying around 5-10 spare shells, why not have one more loaded? I'd be way less than an ounce of tubing and spring to make it happen. Plus it increases the utility when using the shotgun for fun.

There are these pretty nice blank firing revolvers made out of pot metal. They are nicer than ever jennings. They use .380 diameter blanks.
I'm a machinist, and I was thinking about buying a few and making chamber sleeves for them so that they'll take .25 acp.
Does anyone think that would work? I could effectively make reliable 6 shot revolvers for less than $75 a piece.
I think they would make great barter items or be good for a cache.
The chamber sleeves would allow for about a .120 thick steel chamber + the cylinder.
.25 acp is also relatively week. I could even make new hammers and maybe a reinforcing plate if needed.

Lose the alcohol, replace with vodka or everclear. Lose the hatchet, replace with an Estwing roofing hatchet. Strip the first aid kit down to a boo boo kit, add more bandaids and medical tape. And a tube of Neosporin. Then get some basic supplies for dealing with trauma- ace wraps, kerlix, tourniquets, and so on. Avoid quikclot unless you've had the training. Add benadryl, pseudoephedrine HCL, immodium, pepcid, sunscreen, chapstick, tweezers, scissors, forceps, a magnifying glass, and a small very sharp blade.
Add peanut butter and honey. About 20 hard candies. Some tuna or chicken packs. Basic mess gear, at the very least something to boil water in.
Add water carrying capacity until you have at least 3 liters worth, in 2 or 3 separate containers. A gallon of capacity is better. Water purification and filtration equipment and supplies.
A half dozen contractor trash bags and some duct tape. TP and baby wipes. DEET. Nylon twine. Flashlight and headlamp that share a battery size. A normal, easily found battery size. None of this special snowflake lithium battery shit. Then get rechargeable batteries and a solar charger. Download a topo map app to your smartphone. Get a crankradio with a light and usb port for charging stuff. Spaceblanket. Socks and underwear, 4 and 2 sets respectively.

The things you indefinitely need to survive are food, water, shelter, and protection. How much water and food needs to be in your bag depends on where you live and what your exact plans are. What kind of shelter and weapons you need is also dependent on you location and plans. Some places, you're not going to make it to safety with a big pack full of gear and a nice rifle, you'll be shot by tyrone and his friends while trying to escape the city. Some places you'll need to move on foot to a more secluded or safe area. Then, you would be wise to be well prepared and armed, as you'll be the only target of anyone who you cross paths with. No bug out bag is universal.

if you've ever used one of those magnesium ferro rod combos, you'd know they wont last for years either. The magnesium might last a while but no matter if its U.S. milsurp or cheap chiniese trash the ferro rods wear out all too soon and youre just left with a chewed up un-ignitable block of magnesium to shove up your ass. That's the reduced load out. Salt Shakers because you can keep a lot of salt in one and not have to worry about it. I tried paper packets but they just got messy after awhile. The pack is meant for long term sustainability. Everything food wise I can last a week on, two if I ration but if I supplement it with foraged plants and hunted game I can last a few months. I tried out a bunch of configurations last year and this is the one I came up with that works the best for all scenarios I can think of.

First loadout was around 90 pounds. Second was 70, third was 60 and finally I just dropped the SKS and used the Trifecta because three guns in one. I took it camping for a week back in August and it worked just fine. But then again I did not do any long distance hiking with it, I only went in a couple miles before making a camp.
A lot of people don't seem to have good concepts with their kits. They're all over the place. You're trying to achieve one of two things: light kit, where being 'innawoods' is a temporary thing lasting a week or two at most (short-term survival kit); or else long-term kit, where you're building a base isolated from everything else because everything else has gone to complete and utter shit. These are completely different concepts. In the former option, the emphasis should be on water, then food, then medicine, and then security, and comfort, hygiene, shelter and the rest follow down from that. This means carrying bottled water (in a camelbak for instance), dehydrated food, a sleeping bag, a few layers of clothing (which one can quickly peel and regain as needed), and a basic trauma kit. The overall pack doesn't need to be terribly heavy, nor should it; the emphasis is on mobility, since you're likely trying to outrun something, and hauling ass with a 15kg pack is easier than a 40kg pack. What you're not likely doing is carrying around kit for catching food or purifying water. Maybe a purifying straw and a few iodine tablets is smart as a backup in case your some of your bottles are punctured, but you don't want to weigh yourself down with kit that you probably won't need.
A long-term kit means you're going to need to carry around a either hatchet or machete or both (depends on what level of redundancy you want), more water purification, more ammunition for hunting, more fire starting material, proper bedding and the like. The implication of this sort of kit is that you carry it to a staging point, set it up, and leave the bulkiest items stationary while you lug around just your water, food, a few layers of clothes, blades/relevant tools, ammunition, and weaponry during daily activities until you have to relocate. Using this bag means some serious shit has gone down - you're not going back into the city/suburbs for more than scavenging supplies for weeks or months.

Most of the time I'm in the desert and it gets really god damned cold at night in the winter but if you build a good dakota pit fire and keep it hot to cook on then you bury it and put your hammock low over it with a couple wool blankets the radiant heat coming up keeps me warm enough for even frost covered nights.

You want to get water only mix and then make them up in the mess kit pan and put the lid on then put in the coals for about twenty minutes with coals on the bottom and coals on the top. Having mental workouts like that and being able to think critically can be more valuable than learning about survival tactics especially if you're well seasoned. As far as maps go, I use a handheld Garmin gos specific to hiking. Downloaded a map for a 20 mile radius of the forest preserve near my house.
As far as fishing goes, yes.. They have very nice collapsable poles. People only pack line + hooks and shit because its a space saver and you can use a stick as a hobo rod. They have very small ones at Walmart for children that would fit easily on the outside of a hiking bag along with full size ones that break down into pieces. They may not be as durable, but fuck.. As long as you catch something then it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm in a pretty mild climate. I have a fleece Kelty bag liner, then if necessary I can bivy sack over that with a couple of trash bags. If it's really cold, I 've got a 4'X12' space blanket that can become a really crinkly bivy shelter. Plus more trash bags that can be stuffed with marsh grass or newspaper to make a ground pad. Hobo basic, it'll work for my area.

Personally I don't do fishing. I'm on the west coast, fish in Humboldt Bay are already starting to show elevated Cesium levels. However, I do carry one sectional dome tent pole in my bag. One of the fiberglass ones, about 5 sections that shock cord together. Lots of uses there, I bet you could rig a fishing pole with it.
