I've always imagined Russia wilderness as the perfect place for horror movie/series. Sounds good.
Recently read Roadside Picnic for the first time (finished it last night actually) after having played the STALKER series for years and watching the 1979 movie a few times.
My favorite Zone is probably the movie version, but if it had other stalkers, bandits, and mutants.

what's a game that does have realistic combat by your standards?
As for misery: some aspects of it I do like -- the internal economy pretty well does reflect the actual state of isolated systems similar to the zone (think: prison economies).
