A few years after that a neighbor of mine was clipped by a car going ~100 mph on the same road (A 35 mph road) after they (two guys in the car) had robbed a bank. Clipped my neighbor and tore his arm off, they hit a church and ran off. Neighbor bled to death in the street. I moved away not long after.

I know some of these are dubious and probably all of them have some exaggeration, but one thing I never understand about this, is how violent and aggressive these people can be.
I mean why, if you feel threatened, would you perpetuate or escalate such a situation? Is it some way of directing their anxieties out by projecting their sense of righteousness as a defense mechanism? A way to cope?
Or are they wanting to manipulate the situation and goade a reaction out of people they see as a cultural opponent to get brownie points and to self-affirm their generalizations? I would assume this would be less likely, although that behavior would be plausible givent he egos these people seem to assert as well (their ego assuming the universe or others around them would save them if they ever do cause the evil gun nuts to crack in their presence).
Either way it just seems like very self-destructive and socially-threatening behaviors in any case, and I don't understand it at all.

As the law is written now, if you want to hand a gun to someone at the range to try out they need to go through a bg check and then you need to go through one to get it back. Depends on the city. Cinci's pretty half decent for the average person and firearms in my experience, might have something to do with the crime spike it went through in the early 2000's made getting a HD weapon more appealing. Saskatoon was also very good for firearms familiarity, especially amongst the guys working for Cameco. Most small cities are pretty good as well; not sure if St. Thomas really qualifies as a city anymore since all the industry left but growing up there I really don't know that many people who didn't have at least some passing knowledge or familiarity with firearms, either in a hunting or sporting fashion.

Lived in London for 2 years and Paris for six months. Both were dire, and are along with Berlin and Amsterdam the worst capitals in Europe, but none are anywhere near as bad as any large American city in any measurable.
