I don't know how you people are so bad at Armslist. I suspect most of these stories are lies.

I've sold 7-8 guns through Armslist and had very few issued. Yes people try to haggle which is why I list my guns slightly hire than I expect to get. The only problem I ever had was when a guy refused to sign my bill of sale and tried to demanded I sell him the gun anyways.

I remember trying to sell a bushmaster carbon 15 with about $300 worth of extras and ammo a month before Sandy Hook.

I listed it for $700, same as the msrp from cabelas.

>will ya take $400?
>what's yer bottom dollar?
>I just don't see how you have $1000 invested in the gun

Fucking low ball offers left and right. I ended up selling it two weeks before Sandy Hook for $725. Needless to say, all those penny pinchers started making real offers after I sold it and that shooting took place.

I really fucking hate Armslist because I traded a 1911 exactly one year ago and they can't keep the fucking ad deactivated. Every few days I have to manually deactivate the ad and after a while it gets reactivated.

To make things worse, SOMEONE added a fucking sales price. I never listed that shit for sale, ever. For the past year I've been getting emails and calls from the fucking idiot denizens of Armslist, lowballing and offering shit I never asked for.

I've contacted armslist about this and tl;dr we cant do anything about our website

internet is rife with scams, pawnshops want to much money, and estate sales are cleaned out quick if they have any commodities, but it doesn't hurt to look any of those places. reputable physical auctions are going to be your best bet for that stuff, there will be other guys there doing the same thing, but if you calculate bidder premium and tax against the melt stuff goes for almost exactly going rate. you can also pick up a little extra numismatic value, the key is doing your research.

I feel like people getting upset by "Bottom dollar" and lowballs or shit trades aren't looking at this from their perspective.

They lose literally nothing in trying, and in the off chance it works they save hundreds of dollars

If you are really that adamant about a firm selling price just include in the ad that # is your bottom dollar and you will not respond to offers of trades or less money.

This. Something is worth only as much as somebody else will pay for it. As long as you still have fudds who decide that hoarding silver, gold, and .22lr will get them through anything, its fine. I'd rather just have ammo.

You can shoot just about anything. You can also make bullets out of silver if you wanted to fire silver rather than shoot it.

The AR market is glutted out, people are selling AR parts and rifles for less than it cost me to build mine way back in 2009, and I didn't have a pricey build at all. (CMMG $628 upper).

Then again I don't own any firearms as an investment. I just pick up what looks fun. I haven't sold any because none of the ones I want to sell are worth the trouble.

Bill of Sale = Playing Pretend FFL

There was a guy a couple of hours away from where I used to live. Several years ago he got pinched. He was a flea market gun salesman.

Know how they got him? Cops came to his house asking him about a gun, and he WILLINGLY brought out a fucking logbook of Bill of Sale documents.

Unless you are an FFL, you don't need to have paperwork, and that paperwork causes you more harm than good. Doesn't mean shit if it's not notarized anyway.

If you're really worried about Tyrone using "your gun" (PS: there is no registry in most places, a 4473 is not a fucking registry contrary to what you idiots think), go to an FFL and have them do a transfer. You'll get laughed at and called an idiot, but it'll actually have some merit unlike your piece of shit Cheetos stained cum document.

I'd tell him he can take said silver to the bank/dealer and get cash for it, and pay you in cash.

I have no patience for people who think paper currency is somehow worthless and when you ask them why they rage about "Fiat currency".

Yes, paper money is only worth what people think it's worth. SO IS SILVER OR GOLD.

And guess what? You can't buy food from the grocery store with silver.

What you invest in is your own business, if you want to buy things from other people, use what everyone else does to buy things.

>muh based bitcoin

Is an extremely volatile and risky investment, a terminally flawed payment system (requires massive amounts of processing power/electricity just to process transactions), and is not widely accepted outside of hipster bitcoin collectives.

Bottom line:
-cash is based on the strength of the world economy/trust in the system
-the only reason it will become worthless is because the system is going to hell
-if the system goes to hell because of TEH HAPPENING, anything you have is going to be worthless outside of useful goods anyway
-if the government starts printing money in ridiculous sums, to the extent that it begins rapidly devaluing, just convert your currency to some other nations currency before it gets to bad (This is what banks and a few intelligent people in Zimbabwe started doing when their government decided it could just print money).

If you do find a little auction to bid at, be sure and do your weight and value calculations as close to the time of sale as possible since scrap value changes daily and your bidding competition will be the scrappers/melters. Just like stocks, buy low and sell high.

And don't expect the value to skyrocket, fluctuate, or increase over a number of years. Scrap value tends to remain static. Highest price per troy oz was realized in the 70s with second highest hitting the markets back in 2012-2013. In 2013, when the melt value dropped, a lot a people lost their asses because they were dumbasses and bought in on the upswing and couldn't resell to make their money back

I actually been using an app called let it go. Sold a few fire arms on it, have had zero problems. You guys should give it a try.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I saw someone put "never been fired" on an ad for a gun. I'd wager that 90% of the time they've either bought the gun with the express intentions of selling it, or they're lying. Its funny seeing how many people are trying to be woodshed gun dealers, selling newly built, overpriced ARs.

This is why I buy my guns off a secret Facebook group with over 25k members.

They don't let us talk shit to people about their retarded ads on the mainpage anymore. Have to go to the off-topic group to do that. Found my CZ P-01 with two 14 round mags and one 10 round mag with case and pair of VZ grips for $550.

>people start pulling out Granny's good sterling and heirloom silver
>only scrappers and melters buying and totally outbidding silver collectors
>one auction we offer a collection of Tiffany art deco sterling including a tea set and dinner service in a rare pattern, lotta sterling, very high scrap value (I think about $28/Toz at that point)
>bidding goes crazy, collectors BTFO
>see scrapper after the sale picking up purchase
>Me: "Oh congratulations! You bought the rare Tiffany pattern service sets, that's great! Less than 10 of those produced you know? A fine addition!"
>Him: "Uh, hyup I guess."
>Produces a Rubbermaid storage tub from his shitty truck, walk up to the item collection in receiving area and starts dumping this rare Tiffany set into the tub. >Doesn't all fit so he literally stomps on the tea service to flatten it out some
>gets a trashbag and puts the remainder in that

One of my colleagues actually started crying which was funny, but it was a really fucked up thing to see. Weird time when the collectors couldn't afford to outbid the melters.

However, we did get some satisfaction. Two months later at our next sale the same guy bought a good deal more sterling. The auction was on a saturday and well, he waited a couple of days before paying and picking up (we have a 5 day post sale pay period). That monday happened to be the day the sterling priced started dropping back down to normal. So the scrapper decided to default on his several thousand dollar invoice which we were obligated to report to feds. Found out some time later that he was getting free room and board for defaulting with several other auctions in the south east. Fucking scummy scrappers.

Auction fudds and doll people are another type of hell

Besides it's a state limited group. We'll occasionally get some people from out of state, but most of the sellers aren't looking to go through an FFL for out of state sellers. There's probably a state specific group for every state like mine. It keeps all the barter junky retards out.

There is/was an online gun shop that didn't accept the dollar as payment, only precious metals and a discount for silver/gold/platinum eagles. Does anyone know which site I'm referring to?

On their payments accepted page, they had some Alex Jones type videos explaining the impending economic collapse and why the "FRN" is not a valid form of currency.

How do you even get your money back for it? Its not like you can take it to the bank and get cash for it, and Jamal's "WE BUY GOLD YO" isn't going to give you anything close to market value for it.

Basically your trading one thing you have to figure out how to get someone to buy for something else you have to get someone to buy.

What is your rock bottom number of silver pieces you will take for it?
>>
>>28056541
Coin people are easy for the most part, just tedious. The ones that don't know shit are the ones who want to examine every coin in a box of 50 silver half dollars for ten minutes each, looking for a minting mark or press flaw and hoping to find some special variant that makes a $10 coin worth $15. They're bottom feeders and they are as common as the silver dimes and quarters they look for.

The big players are as uncommon as a $20 gold piece. What they are after is typically sealed in a single small container and in a showcase or lockbox. They'll take one glance at the date and appraisal report for the coin or currency (because if it is really that valuable it will already have been verified), check circulation, and then pay you with a check or wire transfer. They don't fuck around because they're dealing in many thousands.

Doll people (99.9% women in their 50s and up),are all certifiably batshit crazy and will quickly make it apparent. If they see something they want they will do everything in their power to get it as cheap as possible. Switch clothes, accessories and tags with another doll. At auctions if there is a large selection of dolls and all the doll women come out, they get nasty. Two women I know have had a rivalry that apparently extends decades.

Sorry, not greentexting...

Once saw these two crazy doll ladies get into it at a sale. Lady 1 who buys dolls A and B saw lady 2 who buys dolls B and C. Lady 1 waits until lady 2 examines a C doll and walks off. 1 then goes up to doll C and rips its clothes to shreds. Lady 2 sees this happen from a distance. Once Lady 1 examines doll A (this was a fine older porcelain headed doll that was older than America) lady 2 walks up and grabs the doll's head in her hand and squeezes it until it silently fractures like a fucking ice cube dropped in hot water. Of course this was all caught on camera but the casual observer would never know. These two women smile and hug and kiss each other's cheeks and act like sweet little old sisters. But they are batshit crazy bitter old hats who will do whatever it takes to fuck each other over. And they'll also spend tens of thousands of dollars on dolls in the process.

This is just one example of doll people. I've seen some shit when it come to those types and I could share a few other stories but I won't because /k/ don't wanna hear that shit

Lol OK a Different sale. High end doll is being offered. However on the day of the sale an interested party notifies the auctioneer that we have made an error in our research and potentially miscatalogued a high value doll. Easy fix since we reserve the right to withdraw a lot from a sale and reoffer it at a later time. So once the sale has started, one of my floor people comes up and tells me there is a woman who is frantically searching for a specific doll.
Ohboyherewego.jpg
Sure enough, this crazy doll lady is here just for that very single doll and flew halfway across the country to get here. surprisingly she isn't livid but she's obviously upset. She says all we have to do to make it up to her is to tell her who informed us of the potentially critical cataloging error. So I call my guy over and he tells the woman and points out the other client, who this woman seems to know.

I then watch angry doll lady walk overnto an older fellow who is chewing tobacco and spitting into a Styrofoam cup. After a quick exchange he gives her the cup and she walks off towards the back area where we supply refreshments and hors d'oeuvres. Angry lady comes back a short while later carrying the same styro cup and makes a b-line for the client my guy pointed out before. They squee and act like they are old friends seeing each other for the first time in ages and I see the angry lady give the other woman the Styrofoam cup from with she took an nice big swig and gulp.

Yep, the angry woman who had flown in decided that the other doll woman had intentionally screwed her by notifying us of the issue with that doll and having us remove it so she retaliated by getting a stranger's snuff spit cup, filled it with coffee and gave it to the offending doll woman.
>>
>>28057387
You're right I should migrate this but I promise this is the end of it. My apologies to everyone on /k/ for derailing in such an offtopic manner.

>>28057638
Interesting enough, the angry lady flew back in when we reoffered that doll a few months later and bought it for roughly $14k. I was on hand when she won and offered to get her a congratulatory glass of wine or a cup of coffee. She agreed but only if I would be so kind as to pour it in front of her.

Doll women are batshit crazy

Mandatory background checks are defacto federal firearm registration.

This. buyers assume people selling guns on Armslist are just like Craigslist sellers who are drug addicts or financially ruined and need the money badly...I myself and I assume many other sellers are just trying to find a home for some the guns in their collection that they have grown tired of or are funding another gun project.

I've just had it trying to list at competitive and fair prices and still have assholes offer me 500 bucks and Hi-point Carbine.

I listed my MK18 for 3,000 bucks and while I've been getting lots of hate mail for being a war profiteer (California; lots of my shit was SSE before it closed and now CA DOJ Roster is in full effect) if I get an E-mail from a fellow oppressed California /K/ommando who really wants it and will take care of her, I'll sell it for 2,000.

But yeah, I recently listed a dry box full of ammo that was listed for 100 bucks just to clear out some old stuff I don't use anymore.

The street price is about 160 and retail price is 180 but I was selling it for 100 flat and I received a dozen e-mails in the first hour and people are low balling me from 50 to 60 bucks.

God damn.

I support this notion.

It's wise to buy silver and gold if you can afford it, but it's more of an insurance policy than something that will make you money.

Me, I like to buy silver coins and pretend I'm a second rate dragon and sleep on top of my hoard (If I could afford more gold coins, I'd swim in it like Scrooge McDuck) then I polish them all up, put them in the protective plastic sleeves and put them back in the vault.

I doubt I'll ever have a real need to use them and are just shiney's for me to play with.

Owning land and flipping houses is what makes you big bucks, or flipping SDCC exclusives.

Heh, does anyone else remember that thread that veered onto the subject of manscaping?
>>
>>28059595
Why even bother melting things down? It's not like coins lose value and scrap selling is stupid anyway unless you are buying bulk quantities of junk.
>>
>>28059595
Wow, there's a lot of coin collectors on here.

I'm completely amateur about it myself, my most valuable is probably my New Brunswick penny from 1857 which is slightly bigger than a silver dollar, and worth about $20.

My tastes run to the odd, old, and from far off places. I have another random coin from Sri Lanka. And the patriot in me always has me set aside the various special Canadian coins that come into circulation (the 1812 quarters, and the Remembrance Day ones, and such).
>>
>>28059595

Not a coin collector, but my father would have a fucking stroke if he knew that coin was melted down. I weep for your hobby coin collecting bros.

I sign a bos but usually just my first name, and what county/city I'm from. That's it.

I suspect a lot of this is just shitty sellers. I sold a fucking Bushmaster AR with a broken upper, 1x9 barrel, turd stock ching chong scope that I had put well over 4k rounds in for 450 dollars a few years ago. Sure you get people who are clearly resellers looking to pick your shit up for nothing (these aint fudds you idiots) but if you just wait for a few fucking days you will find a regular joe who realizes that your X is cheaper than new because it's used but doesn't need to try and steal it off you.
How hard is it to reply to someone asking 80 dollars for your Lee Einfeild with something like "No Thanks buddy, i'm looking for 250."
>>
>>28059757
Would like to point out 2 days later I got a random text from a phone with the rifle (replaced upper and bolt) and a huge ass dead hog. Nothing else. Best buyer ever.

We need to make a /k/oin thread, but when i get gome ill take pics of the morgan and seated liberty i snagged from that auction. Speaking of coin auctions i FUCKING HATE IT when they sell coins per fucking sheet at price per coin. I actualy bullied the auctioneer
>5 by 7 sheets of morgans
>mixture of BEAT TO SHIT to pristine with good dates
>Oi wan a shoiny one boss!
>Flat out tell the auctioneer that his method is bulllshit and im not buying a sheet of morgans for one coin
>"O-oh o-o-okay, buyers choice then"

I'm sure they bought a super cheap Palmetto upper and ran off with an AR for ~600 dollars. Sadly this happened like a month before Sandy Hook, woulda prolly been able to just replace the upper and sell it for 1k+ to hysterical idiots
>>
>>28050913

because when people bite on it, you can get good deals

Oh, you'd be surprised. Some of the old specialty tools will go for change.

Irony is that given how the market it, eventually it would have been worth far more than any scrap value. Tiffany shit ain't cheap.
>>
>>28057296

It will. I'm on a traders forum and recently there was a guy who got caught selling guns in NY State. He had bought guns through the traders forum.

One of the members had purchased a gun and sold it, and then it had been sold a few times and eventually ended up in NY State. He had a five minute conversation with the ATF about it and that was that. They literally do not give a shit.

They would have had to pay me.

I'd leave that to the Crimson jew. Though I'd imagine you could simply acid etch a design and have a rough denarii type deal.

Looking at custom runs, they'd actually be cheaper than making your own.

As long as you don't pass it off as US coinage an don't melt down US coinage, it's not illegal.
>>
>>28059801

Southern auctioneers are a cocksucking bunch of people. I deal with them regularly for eBay merchandise, but goddamn.

>YA CAN GET DIS FO SIX HUNNID DOLLARS ON EBAY!

Then I check eBay and they found one of a completely different model and NIB that's been listed for years at $600, when they have some piece of shit used one that usually sells for the $60 mark, and then some fudd pays $100 because "muh $600":

You aint seen shit toll you get into coins. I want you to imagine a coin thats so old that it has been in hunddreds of thousands of pockets, or in a piggy bank, or even a jar as a rainy day fund. Lets say the coin is from 1850 or so. It has seen trains, the west before it was fully tamed, countless wars, the birth of flight, of bolt action rifles and automatic weaponry, presidents, world events, the internet, and many others. The coin is a relic of a time we cant go back to. The finger print of a man or woman long dead to dust may even be on that coin.

>Now

Picture some grunby fudd who drives a beater truck buying it. Taking it home.

>And melting it for the precious metal

Its gone. Forever.
>>
>>28050458
I don't like haggling but when people open up, with "what's your bottom dollar?" I can't help but get pissed, at least probe/scout like asking nicely if I'm willing to negotiate or talk.
>>
>>28060241
The main thing for me is that the metal is metal, when it's melted down the history is lost and that's sad but the constituent parts are still there, with guns it's a machine that will forever stop working.

I only deal with bullion and cheapo coins because it's cheaper but I get where you're coming from.
>>
>>28050913
I'm taking econ right now, and there's a principle called "Willingness to Sell" and "Willingness to Buy." Consumers wanna get to the lowest price a seller will take, and Sellers want to get the Highest. Those guys who ask that are just playing on the fact that you're not say and will just let them know so they don't have to do any work in negotiating.

Counter with "What's the highest you'll pay?"
>>
>>28060206
you just need to know more about the stuff than everyone there. and have some money.

>>28060251
that must be why people get annoyed when i ask what the best they can do is, but that's what i ask when i'm okay with the price as is and will pay whatever they say.

>>28060262
i have an econ degree, and i respond with 5% higher than the 20% i was going to knock off and tell them "If you want to cut through the negotiation x is the absolute best I can do" and walk away if they try to go lower.

Silver and gold have legit uses in electronics, and some people use silver medicinely...how I don't know.
>>
>>28060369
Most investors in precious metals trade the idea of bricks of gold in sealed and secured vaults, the amounts of gold used in electronics is actually less than that.

Colloidal silver has anti bacterial properties but some people drink it for... Something, shit is most likely snake oil but if you drink enough you turn purple, so there's that.
>>
>>28056551
I inherited a decent coin collection.
I didn't want to part with it cause it's like two generations old now.

I started doing some research, and most of it is silver. Not that I would part with it or melt it down. But if I came to feeding my kids or whatever, it's good to know that it's will keep some value no matter what.
>>
>>28060433

You know, I browse flea markets and stuff for comic books and the like and whenever I come accross some one saying it's at the E-bay price, then I ask, why isn't it listed on e-bay then?

Is it because you don't want to deal with the listing amd paypal fee's and the 10% cut e-bay takes? Also the fact that if you sell 20,000 or more you have to report it as taxed income?

Also don't get me started on fellow E-bayers who don't do market research and just pull prices out of their ass because it's old or copy other listings and not paying attention to the average prices that actually move, and not just listed high and sit there for eternity.

Also, don't get me started on sellers who are too lazy to calculate proper shipping and end up paying more themselves or passing the cost to the buyer.
>>
>>28053878
Fuck that's just your upper?! My whole AR costs less than 500.
>full steel no poly
>>
>>28055913

>>
>>28049815
You should convert your entire savings to silver.

It has had value so long as human civilization has existed annd it's value will persist despite the inevitable devaluing of the USD from leftist policy. Better yet, buy gold.

I ONLY sell for silver.
