What's your favorite MRE or fighting/survival food /k/ommandos?
Just ordered pic related, in beef taco, and meatballs and marinara sauce, to try them out.

I guess if you're willing to pay $14 for a meal that won't even fill you up just so you can play army then it's worth it, but just go order some freeze-dried stuff instead. MREs just aren't worth it unless you can score a case for $40 from a small surplus store (which I have), and even then thy won't store very long compared to freeze-dried food.

I mean they're good since you can just eat them and go, but the same can be said of much more affordable options like beef jerky, peanut butter, trail mix, etc.

Also what this anon said >>28043240. Lack of fiber will give you some cinderblock shits, so don't think you'll live off these things for months at a time.

French RCIR

unlike MREs, it's real food. You can eat that stuff exclusively and not shit brix
>>
>>28043445
>unlike MREs, it's real food
This.

Civilian MREs are a mistake. Sure they're more advantageous for bulk storage and transport, but that matters much more for a military or paramilitary organization than for an individual.

If you insist on MREs, get a tactical butt plug. I'm not even kidding, it will help you immensely. While inserted it keeps any runs at bay, and it keeps your sphincter dilated so you can easily pass heavy loads when it is removed.
>>
Drink a liter of water with every MRE you eat. You will not have any poo problem later.
>>
the only people who eat MRES are people in the military that don't have an option and 13 year old future fuck boy airsofters
>>
>>28043820
I eat RCIRs when I'm lazy because they're cheap, tasty and offer balanced nutrition

I can get them for 5 to 7 eurobux a pop if I get them in packs of 12

Honestly, why not just use these? Eat the whole bag through the morning, shit it out in the evening.

>>28043591
You're talking about constipation, right? Wouldn't rock-hard poop be a good thing, since you won't end up shitting yourself in a fight?
>>
>>28044390

enjoy eating whats basically lard and vitamins
>>
>>28044390
>Wouldn't rock-hard poop be a good thing, since you won't end up shitting yourself in a fight?

Maybe. Up until you actually have to get the fucker out or risk a bowel obstruction.

Having dealt with that, I'd rather shit myself in a fight. Less painful
>>
>>28044430
Well, considering that no preparation is needed, I'd be fine with that. Just pull the bag open.

Military-issue MREs have too many bells and whistles. Simplicity is everything.
>>
>>28044480
I'd rather risk a bowel obstruction than have to pack a roll of paper towels, a plastic bag, and replacement pants...
>>
>>28044909

yeah but those bars are for survival situations where you simply need energy to keep living. if you eat that shit every day you'll have some serious issues.
>>
>>28044390
You do realize shit like that actually makes you hungrier? So much sugar and empty calories that you get hunger pains shorty after eating them
>>
I do home made ones. Not retarded ones that include 1 pack Raman 2 pack saltines 1msg chicken bullion cube 1 nature valley bar and a can of red bull, but sensible ones.
I tend to change up what I take out a lot though.
>>
>>28044932
You have never had a bowel obstruction before, then.
>>
What's a good place to get decent MREs or stuff like >>28043445 ?
A site that ships internationally would be ideal.
>>
>>28045263
Ivan gets MREs from time to time

other than that, ebay

tho the guy I get my RCIRs from ships only to France and even then there's 25 bux of shipping
>>
>>28041609
The MREs the Canadian forces have are actually pretty decent.

Just avoid the the mac and cheese and the """"""""""omelette""""""""" they are like packaged hate

>>

Where did this idiotic rumor come from?
Everywhere ive been, MREs gave everyone shits that were the same color as all MRE entrées, that brown-orange slop.
>>
>>28045357
I heard Canadian ones are pretty good, better than american ones at least

German are good

Italian I heard were good
>>
>>28045431
Much appreciated, I'll see if I can get a sample of a bunch or something. All my friends go with these australian made ones: http://www.survivalsuppliesaustralia.com.au/products/hungerbuster-ration-pack.php

Home made meal bars are the best way to go. Love these things out on a hike or hunting. I personally substitute powdered peanut butter for creamy, then dehydrate after I cut into bars and vacuum seal them into 2 bar packs.
>>
>>28045608
Looks pretty good aside from the almonds. I'll save that one though.
>>
>>28044257
More resistant to damage and lighter so yes.

There's a reason people switched from it.
>>
>>28045634
Pumpkin seeds and cashews are other go too's when I'm not feeling up to almonds. Really just any kind of vitamin packed nut is good.

It's more that I only like nuts on their own, even with chocolate they don't do well for me.
So far this is the only bar that i've been really impressed with that doesn't contain nuts, but they're only made in new zealand, so I just stock up when I go there.

>Comparing an MRE to a ration pack

You should be comparing 3 MREs to an RCIR you dumb.

>>28045431
>>28045331

They are the same thing made by the same people, American MREs are good, there are a few that are bad though.
>>
>>28045908
>Comparing an MRE to a ration pack

I'm doing exactly what the guy I replied to was doing

He argued that MREs were lighter because muh cool pouches, I argued back that for the weight of three MREs and even less you get a RCIR which is actual food.

point: the French make better field rations
>>
>>28045964

A big box of useless junk is more difficult to lug around than just a pouch, and cold rations suck ass.
>>
>>28045794
Ah well just leave the nuts out then. Still a good protein bar with out them they just pack in a little extra vitamins and minerals and a little crunch.
>>
>>28045979
who said RCIRs were cold rations

I've had a RCIR and a MRE side by side, RCIR is actually fucking small. longer than an MRE, thinner, and just as tall as the tallest point of an MRE

can't be bothered with measurements right now

Following KISS, I just hoard a shit ton of peanut butter. I heard that you can survive off peanut butter for a long time. The problem is, if I have to eat only eat peanut butter for a whole month, I rather kill myself.
>>
>>28046022
>>28046058
googled it

MRE = 21.5x14x9mm
RCIR = 294x149x63mm

What makes the RCIR so compact is that there's no wasted space inside: everything fits neatly against everything, no jiggle at all

First time I saw an MRE the first thing I saw was "fucking hell, I could fit almost twice as many things in that pouch"
>>
>>28046129

Am I illiterate or is the RCIR much larger by those measurements
>>
>>28046129
>>28046144

OP here, thanks for the info, in my notes now "next time ask /k/ before doing or buying anything. oh well, at least i'm going to have fun either shitting bricks to build a house out of or spewing beef taco filling from my ass. fun times ahead though, fun times

Mtn House and Cliff bars for me most of the time I'm outdoors. I've also dabbled with making my own rations, but basically they're all cookies.

> Nacho Cookies bitch!
>get you some chips, mash'em up til the crumbs are playsand sized

>get you some salsa
>mix 50/50 cheese and chip sand.
>stir in salsa until its an even wet mixture.

>bake around 250, melt that cheese then let cool

these and their equivalents are usually flour, sugar, oil, salt, vitamins, and tons of coloring for who knows what reason.

they're intended to keep in a survival kit to prevent you from starving to death, not to provide balanced nutrition as a daily meal.

vs no food at all, you will enjoy eating it.

>>28041609
While I am in the military and actually enjoy IMP's (MREs) to a degree, I definitely would not use one just for camping or whatever

the average civilian does not nearly expend the same amount of calories or salt as a soldier and those surplus MRE's will fuck you up eating them unless you're doing some hardcore workout.

even in the military I hardly eat them anyways since there's a cafeteria on base, as well as restaurants and other things all around

more often they give us these Patrol Packs which are basically smaller snack-packs with beef jerky and some other bits inside.
