Probably. There's no real sign of it being completely replaced anytime soon
>>
>not a single ch47 shot down in that movie

Yes

>Arleigh Burke has been extended to 50 years
>B-52 has been around for almost half a century
>M-16 is still around
>C-130 is still flying
>50 cal is still putting rounds on targets
A lot of platforms are like that, it is like they found that one design and stuck with it. A lot of platforms these days only require a computer swap and maybe and engine change and they keep going, the frame itself is just a shell.
>>
>>30580200
>It's 2016 and B52's still have 25 years of service life
and yet here you are with your CH47s
>>

>B-52 has been around for almost half a century

51 years is over half a century
>>
I make carbon clutch plates for the CH47, so they need to use them until I'm ready to retire.
>>
>>30580312

Replace the engines and cpus and you are set
>>
>>30580200
Yes; I rode in one, and they're roomy as fuck. Sometimes, for extra speed, they fly sideways so both props pull better for obvious reasons.
>>
>>30580400
Why not just build the thing sideways?
>>
>>30580215
Is it possible to make a chinook version of the ac-130? Minus the howitzer I don't think that can work
>>
>>30580431

that's called the osprey

it has a nasty habit of crashing
>>
>>30580572
Yes, it's called an Apache.
>>
>>30580292
Going till 2050 too
>>

Would a 4 blade Chinook make sense?

Also the Chinook will be replaced by either tilt rotor or more likely compound coaxial helicopters IMO. Wouldn't make sense to keep a slow bird like the Chinook around, unless you have it ducted fans or something stange like that. Who knows.

"Slow bird"

Nope. Mi-8/17 is.

Compare to a fucking Sikorsky X-2 or Osprey, yes it is.
>>
>>30580273
If I remember correctly, when you take it off the power armor, the rifle is some kind of AR without a stock.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
>>
>>30581424
Is the x-2 even gonna be used by the military
>>

Are you serious?
>>
>>30581329
Its the fastest helicopter ever made. this is due to the insane power to weight ratio
>>
>>30581435
You are correct

This is about as bad as the WW2 stories about German Kar98ks being chambered to use captured American ammunition.

Is the Sukhoi the greatest fighter jet ever made?

Chinook isn't fast for that reason, it's fast because of something called 'retreating blade stall' - or more specifically, a lack thereof. Retreating blade stall is a phenomena that where past a certain airspeed, the speed and angle of the retreating blade causes an instabilty in the amount of lift produced on either side of the aircraft, with 2 counter rotating blades, the chinook is able to somewhat mitigate this issue and travel faster than a conventional helicopter.

The Chinook is literally perfect

Compared to something that isnt the same type of aircraft, it is*

Looks more like a YF-23 than a pak-fa famalam
>>
>>30581814
Compound coaxial and tilt rotors are going to be a hell of a lot faster, period. That's the direction the army wants to take nearly all of its helicopter fleet in and if it really happens then guess what, the Chinook is obsolete because it will be at least 40-50 kts slower and far less agile.
>>
>>30581541
No but the S-97 and later heavier versions of the same type of aircraft might.
>>

Eh its more an example that procurement is severely fucked
That they can't buy new stuff without having 100 billion dollar development programs
