Did I goof /k/?

$300 magazine doesn't seem to spring up all the way but I've got a replacement coming in the mail for $50

Thoughts? It's an Ishapore 2a 7.62x51 NATO
>>
>>30551401

Two things to keep in mind:

1) It really, REALLY doesn't like .308. 7.62x51 NATO surplus ammo ONLY.

2) The finish is really just paint, so either expect it to get worn down really quickly OR refinish it with cerakote if you plan on using it for serious innawoods shit.

The only real problem is that 7.62 stripper clips aren't terribly common. At least not as much as those for 7.62x54R and 7.92x57.
>>
>>30551401
why didnt you just buy a replacement spring for like 6 bucks?

and $300 is a good deal, thats what they go for. i see people ask $400 for them around here. the paint finish is ugly as fuck, take it off with acetone or denature alcohol, mine had nice worn park finish under the paint. i think the paint was just preservative for storage, not intended as an actual finish

the bores on them seem to all be mirror bright, mine shoots sub moa with indian surplus 7.62, its the most accurate milsurp i have (groups better than my k31), i was extremely surprised the first time i took it out to the range. stocks are always pretty ugly on these, lots of cutouts and repairs and dirty 3rd world country grime, youll probably want to clean it up with some soapy water and a rag, then oil it
>>
>>30551471
not exaggerating either, literally holes touching at 50 yards it was clover leafing, at 100 the 5shot group was under an inch. could just have been luck, i dont know. i really wasnt expecting better than 6 MOA considering its old indian garbage, so you can imagine my surprise
>>
>>30551401
Make sure you use .308/7.62 NATO that's loaded below 150 grains. Anything over that can really stretch the receiver. As for stripper clips, all 7x57 mauser stripper clips will fit and work perfectly, and M1903 stripper clips will also work great.

Awesome thanks for the (you)'s

The other issue is that the front sight blade seems wayyy off to the left, is this easily fixed? And the rear sight guard is a little loose

Other than that, the bolt is smooth as butter

Do I need a headspace gauge? I've heard only use military FIELD gauges, as commercial ones will obviously give a failed reading due to the loose tolerances of the weapon
>>
>>30552165
>the front sight blade seems wayyy off to the left
if it shoots straight leave it there
>>
>>30551401
It's cute
>>
>>30552165
There's a bolt on the underside of the forend you can tighten to snug up the rear sight protector. Just don't crank on it. Field gauge is what you want. Shoot it first and see if the sight blade being like that makes a difference

Will 30-06 clips for the 1903 Springfield work?

Feels bad man, bolt isn't turning
>>
>>30552375
From what I understand yes
>>
>>30551490

Ishapores ARE the most recently made bolt-action service rifles, and I do believe that the steel used to construct them is actually superior to that of most other milsurp rifles, by virtue of its relative modernity.
>>
>>30552749
even tho its indian steel? im not afraid to shoot it or anything, seems like a well built gun. i just would have expected shitty tolerances and assembly, but they must have used british tooling because the rifle is tight as fuck
>>
>>30552770
>>30552749
i guess i was just biased into assuming it was going to be khyber pass tier homebuilt garbage, but i can report back its actually high quality and well made. just butt ugly with the black paint and horribly done (aesthetically) wood repairs
>>
for those that didnt know
>The Ishapore 2A/2A1 has the distinction of being the last bolt-action rifle designed to be used by a regular military force other than specialized sniper rifles.
>>
any advice on that rear sight protector? is this something that can be repaired.

I really love the history of this gun (hell it was used in the sino-indian war) but I want it to be a very usable shooter

should I have it examined by the gunsmith at my local gun shop? I'm a little worried they wont let me shoot if it fails a headspace check, even though it shouldn't pass anything except a field gauge
>>
>>30552817

Thanks, been reading through kinda curious and lost.
>>
>>30551426

Best way to remove the paint is MPro7, it will soften that shit right up and you can wipe it off with a cloth and an old toothbrush (disassemble first)

+1 on not liking .308 Winchester, keep it to 7.62 NATO
>>
>>30552817
i thought that honor belonged to the colombian contract madsen
>>
>>30552375
I use FAL and other nato standard strippers for mine.
>>
>>30551471
Question about replacement spring, mine is welded to the base plate. If I bought a replacement would I grind it off and tack weld the now one back on?
>>
>>30553180
thats odd, are you sure its welded? why would someone do that?? yeah i would just grind it off and put in the new one

can you post a picture of it disassembeled? the spring welded to teh floorplate? or to the follower above?

Should I take mine to a gunsmith to check for any obvious safety issues before shooting? I've got military spec 7.62x51 m80 ball that I've heard is a good type for this rifle

But if my mag isn't feeding can I shoot it loading one at a time or is that not Ok?
>>
>>30554116
Better safe than sorry
...but yes you can load one round at a time
You can secure it to a bench and pull the trigger with string if you're scared, in a safe location of course.
>>
>>30554116
Yes, you can load it one at a time.

Do not use .308 ammo in that gun, use 7.62x51 only
>>
>>30554195
>not loading nugget food in it, screaming ALLAHUACKBAR and blowing your hands off
>>
>>30554219
>Implying
>>
>>30554169
Not really scared, shit this thing gives me a hard on, Enfields always have, I'm ready to go shooting, but I figured some due diligence couldn't hurt, I do like having hands

I've got a CCW class today. Going to bring it in to see what their gunsmith says or if they'll even want to touch it

I'll update with anything I find out, I've seen a couple other posters it sounds like might have one
