In all truth, just how useful would the armed citizenry be in the event of a full-scale invasion of the United States by a military that isn't loltuskenraider tier?
I live in rural Washington state, and if there is any location in the US that is even slightly susceptible to invasion, it's the Western seaboard.
I love the 2nd Amendment, I love my ARs and all of my guns, and I try to stay in fit condition, but if I'm being honest, if the chinks invaded I don't honestly think there would be a whole lot I could do againsts APCs, tanks, helos, and trained soldiers.

The only use I could really see the armed citizenry being is as snipers. I mean looking at what insurgents in Iraq and Afghanistan have done, it'd be dumb to say there wouldn't be results. But unlike them, we don't have RPGs and AA-missiles that were sold to us back in the 1980s. Sure, maybe a couple guys with ARs and hunting rifles could pin down a platoon for a few hours, but only until they radio in air support and blow the whole town to hell.

The biggest problem, I feel, is that were it to come down to an insurgency in the United States, too many people would try to mimic or idealize the storied actions of Colonial Militia in 1777 (see: pic related), than the Communist and Islamist insurgents of the past 50 years. Yes, we have guns, but they alone will not win the day, and too many of us seem to believe they will. Booby traps, IEDs, the bombing of enemy infrastructure, attrition attacks against an occupying force... Everything we've been told for the past decade and-a-half are the "cowardly acts of terrorists", are the necessary tools and tactics of the guerrilla insurgent. And were it down to We the People to defend out country, that's what we would need to be doing.

Completely useless. Even the most powerful armies in the world lack the sealift capacity to bring a full-scale invasion to America's shores. They lack the naval power to protect the invasion force en route. And they lack the air power to defend the invasion force in its staging areas and jumping-off points before it ever even embarks. First, the 'aid' would easily be found out as arms. Second, the 'peace workers' thing would fall apart as cover within a week. You're not going to get a build-up that way, and Russia/China have neither the means to do so nor the incentive.

The most important part of training a soldier is getting them to work as a team, follow orders and not run away at the first sign of trouble.
To utilise that you need an effective command.
Both of these are going to be the most difficult to impart on the armed citezens. And one can be taught in an hour how to point a gun and pull the trigger. Its not a big deal.
What the propblem will be is every bill and bob thinking he knows best, which will be exacerbated by normal American 'all about me' culture.
