Is 5.45x39 worth getting into? I have four rifles in 7.62x39 but I kind of want to get a couple AK-74s.
Is it worth the initial investment of a more expensive firearm (Arsenal SRL-106) and more expensive mags and less common ammo? I would one day like to make an AKS-74U SBR clone, but with the new SLR-107UR I could make a krink in a caliber that I'm already established in.
I've got the itch and I don't know whats going to scratch it

Absolutely. It's just too late to get into the 10-11c/r surplus ammo. 545 surplus & 60grain commercial is a pretty wicked round when it hits something, but if you've been using golden tiger 762, you already know what that yawing is all about.
As far as guns go, not much looks cooler than a 545 krink IMO, but the full length rifles is the better way to go first. It's maybe not as hip with the kids, but it's going to serve you better as a rifle.

If you don't swap the furniture, it'll look meh anyway with bakelite.
I'd just get the smokey 20rd mag, then a black and smokey 30rd 556 mag if it were me getting that.

I forgot who, but someone described an ak-74 shooting like turning on a laser pointer. They literally have zero muzzle rise. Wicked ballistics too.
I've got an AR with a 5.45 upper, it's a damn nice gun to shoot, has an extra power hammer spring and eats 7N6 like a whore on date night

DO IT. an ak74 with the correct muzzle brake is about the lightest recoiling centerfire semi-auto rifle you can get. Arsenal is pretty much the best off the shelf brand but there are custom builders that do know their shit.
Don't worry about mag cost long term, I have seen multiple sources reporting that Magpul will be releasing a 5.45 pmag this year at shot show. As they just released the metal reinforced 7.62pmags I would assume that the 5.45 will be re-inforced as well. Wont beat a new made bulgarian circle 10. but will be less expensive.

5.45 is worth getting into, yes. Slightly inferior to 556, but at less than 0.20/round.
There is also the possibility of the 7n6 ban being reversed.
