Well, since I don't actually have to do the whole "link the Flame" shit, I can basically just hole up somewhere comfy and wait it out. I'd say stick to the early areas (fuck trying to run Sen's Fortress with permadeath, and don't even get me started on Super Londo Bros), avoid fighting most bosses and just find somewhere good to camp out for a year. My first thought would be bring full MOPP4, take the Blighttown shortcut through to the Great Hollow and down, then set up down in Ash Lake on the beach.

Having guns available would make things a lot easier though, not to mention that if you're not actually doing the quest, a decent amount of stuff has no real reason to kill you. The less-intelligent ones (Capra Demon, Taurus Demon, Gaping Dragon, etc) probably still would, but you might get away with befriending some of the sentient ones. All the children of the Witch Of Izalith, maybe (spider-waifu, here I come!).

You could just chill in any of the "safe zones" for a year, but you would be limited to 999 rounds of each ammo type. So you could hand out in say majula, with @1000rds of AP,Ball,JHP, hardcast etc. Given the wild advantage of ranged attacks boredom and traps would be the biggest threats
