Selling my S&W 29 for $800 to my local gun store because I'm in the market for a 1911. The 29 is fucking legit but impractical. So I'm almost 100% sold on a SR1911 Commander. Not the aluminum frame. Going for all steel. Am I making the right decision? Is there something close in price that I should be looking at instead?

Also general 1911 thread

the Rugers go for significantly less than 800, but i'm sure you know that. in their price range they are one of the better made options. made in America and have a good after sale service.

for 800 your choices open up some. and it really matters what kinda options you find important in a 1911 to really home in on an exact gun. (like more modern parts or classic parts) i myself would look at Springfield, Colt, CZ, and indeed Ruger. however i'm sure some anon will come riding in here waving his Rock Island boner. i personally think you could do better, after all you're selling a model 29..

5" Government model or go home. Commander and Officer model 1911s are a shit.

IMO the SR1911 is the best "bang for your buck" 1911.

you mean to tell me you wouldn't fondle pic related find a nice place in your safe for her?

i don't think there is anything wrong with a 4.25".
little more recoil, little less weight, little better balance, little more handy. nobody ever seems to have trouble with them. after looking at only commanders long enough, governments can almost look stretched.

a couple commander specific size parts; recoil spring & plug, guide rod, barrel & bushing. but i doubt finding replacement parts will be hard.

Why the fuck are you selling the Dirty Harry gun for a lame 1911? Keep it you cheap nigga. You´ll never know when you have to take down a mountain lion with it.
>>
>>29984497
You can get a Ruger for like $600. They are decent 1911's.
>>
>>29984497

A Colt or Remington R1 Enhanced are both better values imo.

RIA Tac and a bunch of ammo.

RIA GI, new grips and even more ammo.
>>
>>29984975
I don't enjoy shooting it, the ammo is too expensive, and it's too pretty to take inna woods. It literally gathers dust while my other funs get put through their paces. It's time I sold it to someone who will appreciate it more.

Springfield Range Officer

I would anon but I really want a 1911 that's practical to carry. I figure a commander is a good compromise. I probably wouldn't trust anything shorter.

Ballester Molinas are decently cheap and pretty darn good pistols. The only problem is lack of aftermarket, but a few parts are exchangeable with standard 1911s.

Toasting muh Ballester.

Actually, they may not be all so cheap. They're hard to find, but when you do find one they're cheaper than most 1911s

How about a range officer champion? I was thinking about picking one up down the road, for the same reason, don't really wanna carry a gov't length iwb.
>>
>>29985987
I definitely thought about it but barrel length is 4". I know it's not much of a difference but I hear that the shorter you get the more issues you'll have. Plus wouldn't it be harder to find certain parts/accessories because of the off size? This is pure curiosity because I've never owner either not have I owned a 1911.

The reliability thing is not really true, it's just that once you step away from the govt blueprints each manufacturer has their own way of doing things, generally.
If you get a well sorted, name-brand gun I doubt you'd have problems with reliability, they've pretty much figured out the usual problems.

>I hear that the shorter you get the more issues you'll have
This is a meme. Go with someone reputable that makes an Officer sized model and they work fine. People say they're shit because companies like ATI and RIA make shit Officers.

Truth is it's harder to make an Officer model in .45 ACP that does work, but not impossible. The system was designed for a 5" barrel, the ones that fuck it up just chop the barrel and slide down and call it a day.

Springfield, Sig, etc. make Officer sized 1911 models that work flawlessly.
>>
>>29986315
You put it way better than I did.
>>
>>29986315
Sounds about right. The only reason I want a commander is because it's easier to carry but the barrel isn't so short that it's really snappy. It's that perfect goldilocks compromise. And again, I've never even owned a 1911 so all of this helps.
