Why did 9mm Luger become the most common and widespread pistol cartridge and not, say, .45 ACP, 7.63 Mauser, or 9mm Largo?

When people pulled their head out of their ass.
>>29261899
One military adopted it and made everyone else in their alliance adopt it too.
Big production runs mean lots of surplus means cheap ammo.
People tend to prefer cheap ammo.
Thus, lots of people now use 9mm.
So I'm getting a 1911 but I'm unsure as to which finish I should get, since this is my first one:
I live in Houston and it gets real humid often, so should I go with the Stainless Steel or the Blued finish? What have yall gone with?
I live out near Kemah. I have my blued one. It's not hard to keep rust off if you shoot/clean it regularly, even then it's not really that big of a deal. Run a rag with some gun oil over it every once in a while and it will never be a problem.
>>29261092
How much have you paid for yours? I went on Gallery on Guns but they're seem really excessive compared to the ones on Gun trader
>>29261163
Go to slickguns, find the 1911 of your choice, find best price and have it shipped to a dealer. Internet is your friend
How to make anti gun soccer moms angry?
>>29261014
-discover a plot of someone out to go on a massacre with a scimitar
-be there, stop it with your gun!
-discover a plot of someone out to kill people with a flammenwerfer
-be there, stop him with your gun!
-get lots of anti gun soccer moms and their allies angry and chasing after you, wearing bulletproof vests
-get a large magnum with hard bullets to defend yourself against angry black flag wavers with machetes and molotov cocktails in bulletproof vests
-encounter someone conducting a vehicular massacre
-stop...

Shit was the COOLEST
>>29260525
Sure. I made this like 6 years ago for fun. It's a real piece of shit but it was fun.
It works, but I am afraid to shoot it anymore because it is rusted and i don't want the cap to bust the threads and then my face.

Kebab attempts to use it
Blows up in face of kebab
Kebab has been effectively removed
So we can all agree that Italians are the worst at war, right?

Let go by something done in the last 1000 years instead.
Is this how you are supposed to request covering fire from a sniper?
>>29259044
why you take your bolt action or semi auto and just lay down a heavy line of suppressive fire.
Duh I swear to god you /k/ fags no nothing
Wouldn't laying down smoke be the only real way to get sniper cover?
Russians pull out of Syria. Now what?

Well, it'll reduce pressure on the Rebels in the north, especially around Idlib and Hama, but I guess with the truce broadly holding it won't be an immediate change.
I think it's more significant for domestic issues in Russia. Putin is being quite wise in getting out while he still can.

Sounds like Turkey gets to do what it wants.

implying.
its a trap.
What are your opinions on the new Ruger precision rifle?
It should be spot on with its design, features, materials, etc.
Seems like the only thing they could fuck up is tolerances and QC.
And Ruger is a US company, so I'm pretty sceptical.
>>29255612
Reports so far are they are fucking amazing for the price. Babby's first precision firearm, if you find one under MSRB buy it.
>>29255612
Like a fukn unicorn because you cant find them anywhere
>>29255612
I think they're banned in aus for looking too military :(
What has more killing power, a recurve now at 40-55 pounds, or a .22lr rifle?
Which one would you rather have in a WROL SHTF situation?
>>29255027
>WROL SHTF
Woah there buddy, let's not talk about sheepdogs and POU.
Anyway, if you are actually good with a bow, recurve is alright. I would probably still take the .22 because despite having experience I'm not a great bowman.
You can take larger game with a 40 lb recurve but arrows are pretty easy to break. Also there will probably be plenty of .22LR about in the basements of fat boomers, but not nearly as many arrows about.
>>29255051
But can't you take the same game with .22 as you can with a bow from further away?
>>29255061
If you're good enough, sure. The .22 would still be a more reliable solution.
Thinking about doing a howa 1500 308 barreled action into a mpa chassis.
Glass a vortex of some flavor.
Goal is a nice entry level 600yrd gun that shoots a cal. i already own.
And will be able to take on a dog hunt

My most recent addition was also an M1917. Mine was made by Eddystone in 1918. Here it is alongside my Springfield 1903.
The stock on your '03 looks a heck of a lot like the ones Numrich used to sell. Does it happen to have any government cartouches on it?

So a fun shop in town is having a S&W sale this weekend. 686's going for $649 with a free action job. Any reason I shouldn't get one? Also 3", 4", or 6" barrel?
>>29260700
the ugly hole drilled on the left side. other than that they are great guns. but the aesthetics of a ugly hole ruin the new s&ws for me, so i will only buy old ones used now
>>29260721
I've been looking at a 686 for a while now. The only other revolver in my collection is an old Ruger Super Blackhawk.
>>29260742
its quality that is heirloom capable and will last your entire lifetime. i say get it, i'd like one too at some point. i love the full barrel underlug look. have shot one before, very smooth. i own a couple of older s&w's, can't go wrong with them. as far as barrel length, that depends on what you want to do with it. i would say 4 or 6 inch. i think it's a little bit too heavy and antiquated for ccw, there are better ccw options. 4" is a perfect compromise for better handling and balanced...

Why does /k/ hate the ACR?
/k/ hates everything, this board is basically /mu/ now
But with that said, the ACR was a sweet concept but they have failed to deliver on their promises, the quality control is shit, it's overpriced and isn't particularly great. Allegedly you can't even get replacement stocks, and users have had to nigger rig airsoft parts to replace ruined furniture.
>>29259430
When your parent company is fucking Cerberus, you aren't going to be focusing on quality
/k/ hates the ACR because it had potential and got wasted when Magpul sold the rights to Bushmaster.
>>29259540
Cerberus has a long ways to go if they think they're gonna save us from the Reapers.
My brother is turning 18 soon, and I plan on buying him a firearm. Both him and I lurk /k/, and I want something under $500, it's the most I can afford right now. From what I know, he really likes rifles and some shotguns, but I'm really not sure what to get him. Any help would be appreciated, thank you. Pic unrelated
What type of action? Semi auto, break, bolt?
>>29259494
He was thinking bolt if i remember right. He's shot a Marlin break before and wasn't too big of a fan.
Savage Axis 223? Or maybe if you can throw in $50 get a Mossberg MVP 556. It takes AR mags, it's accurate, cheap plinking. A great starter and multi role, can hunt with it, kill with it, plink with it.
