I'm going to buy my first pistol today, to use for home defense and CCW if possible. I have $500. What should I look at or stay away from?
Do try and find a Glock.
Don't buy a Taurus.

You're gonna have to look towards compact-subcompact guns, buddy.
Unless you are LARGE or have the body type to conceal carry a full size with little to no problem, you'll find out real fast the nitpicky bullshit world of concealed carry a handgun.
Now with that said, cut out all the iffy manufacturers (like Taurus as >>29952731 said) and go with more reputable brands and product lines. Then go rent them out or hold and fingerfuck them at stores to see which is more comfortable to you. You're putting your life and life of loved ones on it, so there's no reason to go special snowflake just because a brand is "so mainstream".
No one gives a fuck if you're stabbed or shot with a malfunctioned Remington R51 in your hand.
You can go special snowflake after you get a good handle on shit and know a bit more on what works, doesn't work, and what needs some effort in order to work.
Also, why has America not switched to a bullpup?
>>29952639
Because you're a fucking idiot.
>hey let's just throw away millions and millions of dollars because the 15 year old internet child thinks it's a better platform

Even as a Brit I won't watch that sperglord.
These guns aren't even comparable. The MG34/MG42 was and still is the king of WW2 machine guns.

Never trust liberals, give them an inch and they take a mile.
Learn from the Australian police state, once you go down this road you can't turn back.
I'm so sorry, koalaman.

I really need a green card, i want off the Auscuckian ride.
I've been wanting an 92 series Beretta for awhile. After figuring out what I wanted, it seems like the most inexpensive options is just getting an M9A3 decocker model. I thought about buying a Vertec and having it converted or buying a 92G and having the frame reduced, but in the end it would be about the same price. Or rather, for the prices I've seen M9A3s going for, if anyone ever had them in stock.
Just wanted to know if anyone has one, what they think, like or dislike, how much they paid. And i guess a general Beretta 92 thread.

So uh, thanks for the bump but I don't get the meme.

I would be a lot more interested in an M9A3 if they came in an all black finish. The FDE color looks like it's trying too hard to be tacticool.
So, i've seen everyone talking about this S400, i couldn't understand anything from wikipedia or other sites,
what does this thing exactly do?
and why is NATO worried about it?
>>29952473
It's an evolutionary upgrade to the venerable S-300 system that the USSR have been using for a long time.
What it does is shoot down aircraft from very long range, and the idea is that a few S-300 batteries can deny large swaths of airspace to NATO aircraft.
How well the S-300 works is a lot of guesswork. It puts up very good performances in trial firings and NATO pilots speak highly of it when practicing against them (Slovenia inherited a battery, and the US bought some post collapse of the...

so this s400 shoots down aircrafts, forcing enemies to attack without Close air support.
Rad as hell
can it shoot down missiles?
>>29952541
>forcing enemies to attack without Close air support.
Forcing them to take out the missiles first, or operate stealth fighters for CAS.
It can shoot down missiles, but you wouldn't want to waste them on anything less than a cruise missile. The S-500 is an even more advanced version, but is more aimed at taking out ballistic missiles.
Anyone want a 20% off promo code for CrimsonTrace? I put a Green LaserGuard on my S&W M&P Shield 9, and they sent me a promo code for registering. It expires June 1st, and I can't see myself being able to use it before it expires. So if there is any fellow patron of /k/ who is interested, let me know.
Anyway, what is /k/'s opinion of lasers of carry guns?
>>29952009
Best attachment for a CC gun if you seriously carry it everyday.

goddamn
try cleaning up every now and then you fucking pig
Also, no thanks on the laser

I bought a Crossbreed MiniTuck for it. it is comfortable enough that i only take it off while sleeping or showering... so, yeah...
What are some good affordable gloves for shooting and general /k/-related hijinks?
>>29951891
WELL, a lot of people recommend Mechanix as a cheap go-to, but if your handgun sports a beavertail then it's a shitty glove for that. There's too much excess webbing between the thumb and trigger finger, which gets hung on your beavertail when you grip for a draw.
The Oakley flight gloves are a standard, but have obvious drawbacks and aren't QUITE as sturdy as you would hope.
Wiley-X anything seems to be good.
Hatch anything is awesome.
All flight glove designs have...

Been using pic related for a year now.
Army infantry spending alot of time innafield and they're still completely intact. no loose threads, no holes innapalm or fingers, velcro still holds tight. Been wet and muddy and I just throw them in the washer and they come out fine. They fit my hand very well too, makes grabbing shit out of pouches a non issue.
Outdoor research ironsights are my favourites. I liked pig fdts

You are making a lot of incorrect assumptions about knives for self defense.
1. Self defense knives are not for brandishing.
Unless you want to risk being stabbed or attacked violently with a blunt object. Being threatened with a knife puts people in an actual fight/flight stance. If their brain chooses fight, then they will attack you with intent to utterly destroy you and any chance you have of hurting them with that knife.
2. Stabbing or slashing someone with a knife does not stop them from...

So, convince me of one or the other. I am pretty close to buying my first CC and I've narrowed it down to these two options. Which is better? Why?

Carrying .45 over 9mm in this day and age is retarded. Today's 9mm bullet technology is comparable to .45 in ballistics. More capacity, easier to shoot(+p+ more snappy rather than "thump" on .45) , and cheaper.
And water is wet

It did what it was supposed to just fine, that being be a cheap, easy to make and distribute firearm. That being said by today's standards it would be pretty shitty.
Is there any value in Militias for modern nations other than to serve in shit stations while the regular military does the true fighting?
Can militiamen honestly have any justification in taking their place in the line of battle alongside professional troops?
>>29950957
shut up faggot
>>29951025
>National Guardsman detected
>>29950957
Sure. Same advantage it's always had. It's not that hard to bring militias up to speed compared to most other civilians, and the organisation's a big advantage.
Historically speaking, the value of militia is well established.
