Redpill me on the Il-2, /k/. I've heard conflicting reports that it was either a valuable ground attack plane or a total piece of shit. Which is it?
>>30217491
It was alright.
Doctrine for it was awful. Erich Hartmann even wrote about how it was boring and he felt that shooting them down was a chore because they never broke formation when engaged and the rear gunners were always awful.
>>30217491
Good plane, worthless Russian pilots, doctrine and training.
>>30217491
the ju-87 was better. The Il-2, while more heavily armored, was under powered and less modular then the junkers. Also their pilots were shit and their 23mm cannons were low velocity meaning that it could only use bombs and rockets to kill the heavy German armor. Also if you just look at the picture you can see that the visibility for the pilot is shit; not good for a ground attacker at all. also you can literally see the fuel tank exposed right behind the pilot. Although its durability, versatility, and strength...

Welcom to the world of the 9-5 as all your friends join the military~
How effective would a 7.62x39 ar pistol with a 10" barrel fireing 122 grain subsonic hollowpoints through a suppressor be for home defense? Any better ideas? I thought about doing the same thing but not subsonic and with 230 grain .460 rowland hollow points.
It would probably work about as well as subsonic .300 Blackout. Which is decently well.
On a side note, how is a subsonic .460 Rowland different from a .45 ACP?
>>30217220
Theoretically itd work. How would you plan on managing the recoil?
>>30217231
Thats the point. It cant be, so its louder. But i like the round so it naturally came to mind.
hi /k/
im a newfag and want to get into shooting guns. I have a grandfathered .22 rifle and a .38 special revolver. I'm looking for a mix between a range gun and a home defense gun. I only have around $600 to spend and not much more for ammo. I was going to build an AR15 but on an early thread /k/ommados told me otherwise.
advice? Am also looking for a cheap plate carrier if anyone has their two cents to give.
>>30216996
AR-15. You can usually find/build 'em for about $500 at the lowest. Then 3 magazines ($30) and ~240 rds ($70).
Otherwise, get yourself a Mossberg 500 and some buckshot. You can also pickup some .38 Special defensive loads but I'd advise you against using an heirloom for defense. (Mostly because said heirloom will likely spend the remainder of its life in an evidence locker before being lost/stolen or destroyed.)
How about an SKS
Semi Automatic, Relatively cheap(between $500 and $700, nice for the range
Have a look at Norinco ones
>>30216996
If you're banking on the cheap carrier and plates to actually use in an actual life or death situation rather than range/dress-up/etc, then either save up for an actual carrier ($150-200 for a basic carrier) and plates or spend money into something else.
As for the AR? You can defiantly put one together for $600~ but you'll need to be bargain hunting and patient and very disciplined in getting certain stuff without going over.
Don't forget tools to put it together (cheap to put lower...

who is this guy exactly?
A guy who was too pussy to go to a warzone but still wants to dress up like he did.

A try hard cop who's co-workers laugh at behind his back.

The guy who decided to be a cop after watching Serpico, and Zero Dark Thirty in the same day.
I'm planning on backpacking across Europe as a vagabond/hitchhiker. Sleeping in tents, cooking at campfires, just going where life takes me for a couple of years.
I don't own much in the protection department as I'm from a nefarious no-handgun country, but I have a few good knives that I've collected from being /out/ for a decade. Pic related is what I'm thinking of bringing for general camping use and protection; an almost new Glock Field Knife and a Gerber Guardian Backup.
Do you guys have any better ideas for protection while hitchhiking?
>>30216526
And given that the Gerber is a boot knife, I'll be using it as that.
>>30216526
keep some steel wool and oil on you cause that glock will rust instantly
>>30216560
Noted. I had the same one in the military, and our DS made us clean it religiously so I know how to care for it.
What is the quietest you could ever get a gun while still mataining some sense of power? I assume you'd start with something small maybe like a .223 etc? Or would any significant dampening would turn it into a BBgun?
What method/silencer would you use? Or is it just impossible? Could you ever get anything to still penetrate at maybe.. as loud as a paintball gun?
I realize this is kind of dumb a pointless question but I'm curious.
>>30216410
for best results you use something subsonic so it doesn't make a crack
45, for example, is a good example of that
and yes you can get them really really quiet
>>30216424 is an example where it is integrally suppressed
a "wet" suppressor is also very quiet
>>30216410
Like >>30216424 posted De Lisle carbine is a good example. As are Mk22 style systems.
Basically in the most effective systems you see a larger caliber bullet at subsonic speeds with a manual action combined with a high volume suppressor.
These systems aren't really made to bear armor penetration wise but soft targets they will still be very effective.
On a side note the russian developed the 9x39 round to be both easy to silence and have good...

Sup /k/, former nogunz here, just bought my first rifle, a Mauser K98k(?)
Got it for a steal from an uncle, along with two boxes of ammo. He got it from some seedy pawn shop in Baltimore, the shop owner said it was somebody's war trophy but I don't know about all that.
It's a little beat up, missing some parts. Any funs expert awake who can give me a decent idea of what I got?
Also just gonna show this thing off. The metal is in nice shape, theres a little bit of pitting in the chamber but I've cleaned off what little rust there was with a rag and wd-40. I'll go get a proper cleaning kit soon.
All the serial numbers match, except for the bolt, but all the bolt's serial numbers match up, so I'm okay with that.
>>30216289
A nice example of a bringback sporter. Probably done in the 50's. Always good to find them without the barrels cut down or drilled in tap. Estimate for value 2-300.
>>30216289

Hey, /k/, /v/ here. The trailer for edge_dogs 2 came out and protag ises a 3D printed gun. Not a liberator, but a gun that's supposed to last as long and punch as hard as an actual gun. So, would this actually work IRL?

how did they green light a sequel?
>>30216181
All of those sweet pre-order dollars everyone keeps sending them.
Various parts still need to be metal no matter what. Plastic after all can only hold so much pressure. Think of the "cannon" part that holds the cartridge being the metal. To make it repeat each shot, it needs metal springs. Which could be pen springs and shit.
So /k/ how'd I do?

In the back. He'll hit all the people in front before his AR jams... this actually happened in Aurora. They're incredibly jam prone with those 60-100 round mags, and would be especially in full auto.
I'd choose to be in the front though. I'd rather die charging him than die running away. But like I'd be caught without a weapon. That's like being a caveman without a spear in these savage times.
Alright /k/, It's time. Which is the best out of these very comparable 9mm striker fire handguns (which AREN'T Glocks)?

Agreed. The only reservation being the grip profile, which will either work for a user or will not. Having the option of three thicknesses does some good to mitigate that, however.
