Gonna be working with new shooter, he wants to learn on a revolver, which I'm less experienced with. Any suggestions for a good light .38 special round for him to practice on?
>>30497141
Most .38 specials unless specifically mentioned are on the light side becasue of the need to not kb older guns, what are you going to be shooting?
>>30497147
He's renting pic related, 686.
>>30497141
>go store
>buy the cheapest box of .38 you can find
Cheap stuff is always light, and really any .38 not listed as +P. Wadcutter/semi-wadcutter will leave nice holes on paper to watch your hits.
I'm working at a mining camp in the absolute middle of nowhere in Alaska for a month this summer. What should I bring to handle pic related?

Bear spray.
Less likely to be stolen by your subhuman coworkers.
>>30496911
Been there, done that.
If the place is corporate you need to check with their rules, either they will have security or a dedicated anti bear crew. Some places will not allow firearms on their property as retarded as it is.
For less formal ops:
Always have bear spray on you just in case, sometimes you can just deter the bear, not having to kill it.
Then go down the list:
12ga shotgun with Black magic slugs - the only choice for tundra with risk of Polar bears
45-70 Guide gun (either...

What do you guys carry in all your gear? What have you ex-mil guys carried? If you had to make a packing list for combat, what would you include?
Personally, I think a portable hard drive and digital camera are underrated. Besides holding a porn stache and taking pics of dead enemies, they can be good for recon/intel gathering.
Portable hard drive? For what computer? The one you're not carrying?
>>30496810
The one I got has ports for a standard USB, Android Phones, and a smaller USB found on many digital cameras and smaller electronics.
Allows carrying around entertainmemt or any digital info I need around.
>If you had to make a packing list for combat, what would you include?
Extra ammo
Extra grenades
Water
Post guns you will never not like

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right board but I need your help. I'm currently trying to enlist in the marines and I read that one possible disqualified is mental health conditions. In 8th grade I went to a residential school where I received treatment for depression and minor adhd. I have been out of said school for 3 years now and exhibit none of the symptoms of those behaviors without medication. Would this be something either looked into (not mentioning it) or potentially waiverable
>>30496396
You don't take meds? You're fine now and have been for along time? It never happened. End of story.
But will they look into it? Last thing I want is a dishonorable discharge
>>30496396
Just dont mention it, and nothing will happen.
Just looking for some opinions on THE BEST (or some good options at least) on magnified optics for my new Daniel Defense ddmv411 pro. Mostly going to be used for bush hunting but also for competitive club shooting.. .. . Im thinking the trijicon acog is dope and alot of cunts here use the fuck out of them. What about 1.5-6x22 or whatever leupold or schmidt and bender stuff? IDK??
>>30496383
>Just looking for magnified optics
>my new Daniel Defense ddmv411
Are you me, anon? I just got my first AR, DDm4v1LW. Its arriving soon and after I get proficient with the iron sights I was thinking of getting a TA11. I'm reading it's a nice optic and the eye relief is more forgiving than the TA33. Am curious to hear what more experienced anons think.
>>30496383
Browe BCO/BTO is a better ACOG made by ex-trijicon employees. Glass/eye relief is a bit better and it doesn't have a problem with the reticle becoming too bright under sunlight since it has a sensor that detects the brightness of whatever you're pointing at and adjusts the reticle accordingly. It might not be as proven as the ACOG, but the things are built pretty well by people who know what they're doing
But for hunting/comp shooting a variable optic is more useful nowadays. Look into the Vortex...

OP HERE, for me the most attractive thing about the acog is that it doesn't need batteries.. i've heard good things about those bco/bto things.
4TH of July deals thread
Quick /k/ I have 10,000 I the bank from tech school and want to buy 1 shotgun, 1 AR (or parts to make it) and at least 3+ different varieties of handguns for the highest quality to price ratio i can, while still not paying for diminishing returns.
What are you planning to pick up? Planning to go to mom and pop shops or chains?

Dunno where to start this thread so I'll begin here.
25 years old in October. Work a dead end, physically strenuous job. Do nothing but drink and lift in my occasional spare time, along with doing a ball of cocaine a weekend. Tired of working my ass off to go nowhere, all whilst being the hardest worker in the room. Just want to bust my ass for a reason. Is military the best route?
If this isn't the right board, please direct me to it.
Pic very much unrelated

So long as you do anything besides the Marines, it's worth it.
>>30495373
Why the marines specifically?

Why not the Marines?
Any college student /K/ommandos here?
I'm going to university of florida in the fall, not sure what my options are for owning a gun. anyone else in the same situation?
Floridabro here, you can do whatever you want. It's Florida mate we don't give a fuck. Unless you're on campus, then you might be fucked for carry. But I don't believe they ban anything from dorms. There are campus carry laws on the floor IIRC tho, vote nigga

definitely banned in the dorms, and on campus writ-large.
How about you email the security office at the school and ask them?
Part of college is learning how to exist without being spoon-fed. Seems like now is a good time for you to start.
Anyways, any Colorado School of Mines people on right now? I'm an incoming student in August
I believe the next shooting club leader lurks on here, does he not?
As an anon who never served I want to thank every one here who has served for what freedom we have left. Every last one of you who have enlisted since 911 did it knowing you could end up in harms way, so even if you turned out to be some pog fuck you took that chance.
I'm old as fuck, maybe one of the oldest regular posters on the board. My patriotism is rooted in my memories of the gold star homes in my neighborhood in the early 1970's and those homes were all over my lower middle class neighborhood believe me.

Something that's been on my mind lately after reading into the rifles used in WWII and seeing the Arisaka Type 99 made me wonder why exactly it seems to be the only example of a production rifle with an off-center scope and why they chose to design it that way in the first place, I figure there has to be some kind of tested logic behind it. (Pic is pretty clearly a Mosin but I'm just using it to illustrate the point)
I can imagine any number of reasons why a top mounted scope would be superior and the fact that pretty much all of them are would certainly seem to...

>why exactly it seems to be the only example of a production rifle with an off-center scope
it's not. Not the first, not the last.
Yanks had some, and such things were already seen during WW1 as well.
>>30494455
They designed it that way because the offset scope gives the user more room to reload the rifle.
It's also far from the only scoped rifle designed like that. Both M1-C and M1-D rifles had offset scopes. Sniper variants of the Lee Enfield Mk. III and Ross rifle had an offset scope. There are plenty of others.
I figure the best solution for something like that is the old Pachmayr swing-off mount.
