First time poster here interested in CC. Only to scare someone off if I absolutely had to of course. What is a good way of knowing if it's worth it? Is there a check-list that covers the basics or questions I should ask myself first? Thanks

Given what you just wrote, CC is not for you.
Don't carry a gun if you're going to bank on someone getting scared off when you draw it. You'll wind up getting hurt or killed that way.
Could we get a Christmas Truce thread going? A small reminder of one of humanities brightest moments in its darkest era.

OK Chris Kyle is clearly not the smartest guy and was able to become a SEAL.
Just how intelligent must one be to become SF?
>>28309205
asking the wrong question. the correct one is: how dumb must one be?
Inteligence has little to do with it. It has to deal more with willpower and determination

What's making you assume he wasn't smart?
What kind of gun is he using? And where can I buy one?
Also Merry Christmas!

I need sniper buying advice. I want a firearm that can put holes in things at 1000 yards. I do not make an extraordinary amount of money. What are my options?
Also please post long distance marksman advice/general
>>28308804
The gun is certainly important, but shooting past 400-500 yards is far more dependent on the shooter than the firearm. Not many shooters can outshoot their own guns.
>>28308834
What I should say, is can I get to 1K with a Remington or Tikka, and how low of a caliber can it be? .338? 308?
>>28308834
Is there a firearm that's cost effective that I can buy that I can work up to outshooting?
Can we have an archery thread?
I got into it recently and I was hoping someone could educate me on plastic vanes versus more traditional feather fletching.
>>28308738
Plastic Vanes are good for durability, and drag reduction on the arrow's fletching.
Traditional feather vanes vary wildly in terms of durability, and drag, but tend to weigh less.
Personally, I use plastic ones with every single arrow I own, but I practice often, and need to replace mine about every 6 months (shooting every single weekend)
When I head over to SCA events, I have special arrows I keep on me, to keep it historically correct, along with a traditional recurve (versus my usual...

That's similar to what I heard from someone that's into it. They said the feather ones can get messed up really easily. I've only used my (plastic vane) arrows for about 3 hours over the course of the month I've had them (it's been cold and I've been sick) and one already has a rip in it, but the arrow rest keeps dislodging so that should be the cause of that.
Feather feltching is more of a gimmick because they are more fragile, less "rifled" (they have less spin) and plastic ones are more sturdy.

What does /k/ think of buying used knives?
i picked this up sheath included "SCHRADE+ ELK1 special edition" at a pawn shop for a 50$ bill.
It seems real nice, the grip fits my hand well and after a few minutes on the whetstone it was sharp as hell.

I want to get a carry gun. I've narrowed it down to
Colt Mustang pocketlite(.380)
or
S&W 686+ with 3inch barrel(.357mag)
I find good reviews on both, both hold same amount of rounds, both are gorgeous and at least have a capable caliber of cartridge.
The only gun I own is a S&W Model 19-3 with a 4 inch barrel and don't really know what holding a small gun is like. They have Mustangs at my local gun range but I have yet to find a 686.
(secretly I think i'll get both and carry the mustang in my nice clothes and the 686...

Apples and oranges, lad. And besides, why won't you just carry the 19-3?
>>28308544
I've been tempted to. The 4 inch barrel makes it a bit hard to carry in a waistband. Not to mention its a bit heavy(although I don't mind). I'm sure a good leather holster would help. I think I just want something a bit more portable.
>686
>Small
Yeah nah, L frames aren't too small. Go with a J frame if you want a carry gun or at most a 3" k frame.
Also

>3 inch barrel
U wot m8? Have fun with harsh recoil and massive muzzle flash. Just stick to .38s or .38 +ps.
Does the F-15 have any real advantage over the F-16 besides acceleration?
>pic unrelated
>>28308494
>much bigger wingspan so better mobility
>higher payload
>Better range
I think it has better air to air combat capabilities too. Don't quote me on that but I'd be surprised if the radar and avionics overall aren't better for air-to-air
The f-15 is a brilliant interceptor really.
Not knocking the f-16 but that's not what it's meant for these days.
The F-15 is basically better in every way compared to the F-16.
The F-15 is faster, can climb faster, carry more ordnance and missiles, supposedly more maneuverable and better range on a clean setup.
The major reason the USAF has more F-16 is that the F-16 is cheaper and more multirole.
The F-15 is an air superiority fighter made for flying fast and taking out Russian fighters in a dogfighting scenario.
The F-16 was made to be cheap like the A-4 skyhawk, to do everything and to be the signature export plane for the US.
>>28308494
Bigger payload, longer range, higher top speed, better avionics.
