Hey /k/,
I spend large amounts of time out innawoods (pic related), by myself, and usually travel far distances from civilization. After reading recent reports of mountain lion sightings, it dawned on me that I really need to protect myself. I don't not think I'm being overly paranoid, but when you're out alone you're exposing yourself to all kinds of risks, and I think it best to be adequately protected. I would by no means say that I'm a very large person, "Russian tanker" size would describe me best, so I certainly don't think I...

Your size doesn't matter. A grizzly will kill a 6'5 bodybuilder just as dead as a 4 foot tall girlscout. The only difference is that the bodybuilder will be a larger, more hearty meal. Unless you can kill the bear by sticking your arm down its throat, which was a one time thing to be fair.
>Lightweight, low maintenance, packs a bunch
A big suggestion in Alaska and for hiking in general is either a rifle chambered in 30-06 or higher or a handgun such as a 44 magnum....

Also, for mountain lions, bears, whatever, the best option is being able to identify fresh bear tracks, using common sense, and keeping your distance. No running from bears, they can outrun you. Don't climb a tree unless you can basically do a 30ft vertical leap. Stand your ground, because most bear charges are bluffs. For mountain lions, don't run, raise your voice loud and low, and get ready to shoot it. Be aware of fresh tracks, and don't have food or any sort of smell that might attract either species.

Don't worry about mountain lions. They know where you are long before you will know they are around. They almost always avoid people, and if it wants you dead it will ambush you. You won't have a chance to pull a gun.
What does /k/ know about the Springfield 1903?
Bump, anything?
It was my first rifle. I love it. Great guns
Germany sued America in WWI for them, because it was too similar to the K98 and won.
The problem is that they lost the war and couldn't very readily collect.
So they are gud/10
My two guns.
I impulse bought the shotgun while living in a city and having my apartment broken into.
I now live in the country with 3 dogs, 5 cats, chickens, etc. and want to kill coyotes so I just picked up a Mosin.
What do you think of my poor-fag life choices?
>>28317429
Both look nice, good on you anon.
>>28317429
The poorfag is strong with this one.
>>28317465
Self-admitted poor-fag, at least when it comes to guns. I tend to put my money into other things.
By most common I mean:
>most common/accessible parts
>most common/accessible ammunition
>under 1000 dollars
Basically a gun that most people would have the ammo for and spare parts for. And vise versa, in case someone else needed something. I don't want to find myself in a situation where I run out of ammo, and no one has anything compatible.

.22lr.
Literally everywhere, dirt cheap, light, actually pretty darn deadly, and available for almost any platform.

To answer your question.

>If you're smart you'll take care of yourself. There's nothing you can do for anybody else. You're just running into a burning house where nobody can be saved. What difference you think you can make, one single man in all this madness? If you die, it's gonna be for nothing. There's not some other world out there where everything's gonna be okay. There's just this world. Just this rock.
What else is /k/-worthy?
It doesn't really get mentioned much, but Blood Diamond is solid. Bullets kill people like they should and nobody survives just because they are a main character.
Its nice too because it doesn't try make whites out to be the big villains of Africa, instead choosing to reflect the reality that both the totally-not-Exectutive-Outcomes and the rebel warlords are both equally profiting from the suffering and unrest. That shouldn't be unusual in films, but it is.
Also, its got a sick Car-15.
One of my favorites!!!
Great classic!

All based in true story and main actor was SAS in WWII
Hey guys I've browsed this board since I was 14, and on the 7th this month I turned 18. As such, I'm looking to grab a gun. In a stroke of luck I won 200 bucks on a dollar scratch ticket, so I was wondering if you guys had any decent suggestions? I've looked at the Polish Radoms, and a Tisas 1911. I'm not interested in a .22 because I've had a little Henry mini-bolt since I was little. Looking for under 400
Zastava m57
Nuff said
You turned 18, its high time to start looking for a job, or join an apprenticeship, or apply to local state colleges/community college. Save up a bit and get yourself something nice, you don't exactly NEED a pistol right this minute.
Taurus pt 92 or 99.
>Taurus
I know it's scary, but it's actually a Beretta M9, though the stock mags are shit.
I wanna get new custom zastava m57 grips but they are all wooden and I don't them. Is there anywhere that does polymer grips or atleast cool graphics
>pic sorta related mine has a safety and regular grips
>>28317072
do you speak english faggot?
I speak English Russian polish and arabic

why does H&K make such good handguns but piss poor rifles?
Nigger what?
>>28316926
The VP9 is a piece of trash
>>28317115
The VP9 is fine.
How well would this do as an air to air weapon in WWII?
Mounted on a fighter?
Mounted in turrets on a bomber?
What about its 12.7mm brother, the GAU-19?
The M61?

the gyroscope effect of the rotary engine already make fly, and aimming a nightmare
now add 6 spinning metal tube and you have something unflyable
>>28316708
>the gyroscope effect of the rotary engine already make fly, and aimming a nightmare
Then how were so many planes shot down in air to air combat?
>now add 6 spinning metal tube and you have something unflyable
The weight of those tubes are pretty insignificant compared to the weight of the aircraft.
Wouldn't they consume all the ammo the planes can carry pretty quickly?
What do you guys think of these budget Ruger rifles?
Are the scopes that come with them any good or just cheap shit?
>>28316663
I wish they came with iron sights
Fuddy/fiddy
Sub MOA out of the fucking box. No need for bedding as they have some kind of shitty metal bedding V addition that surprisingly works incredibly well.
Best budget rifle that shoots sub MOA out of the box you will find. I cannot guarantee perfect fit and finish for quality on such a mass produced rifle though. Mine needed some sanding on the stock to give more room for the free float barrel.
I've considered recently getting a 1911, specifically the Springfield TRP. I'm by no means poor, but whenever I see that $1,300 price tag I just keep thinking of all the other things I could spend that money on and shy away from it. I really want one, I just can't find the justification for it, especially since I won't be carrying it or using it for home defense.
How do you guys convince yourselves to spend that kind of money on guns?
>>28316653
I have a percentage of my paycheck automatically parsed to a separate account that I specifically use for luxury purchases. Any money in there is fair game for whatever catches my eye.
>>28316653
Layaway.
>>28316721
This guy is smart.
Anyways, OP, I collect guns. They're a hobby of mine. I view them as a sort of investment at the same time. Unlike a lot of hobbies, firearms actually go up in price over time.
>Hmm... should I buy that FS2000 for $1800?
>Sure, I can have fun with it while I own it, and if I want I can sell it in a decade when it's worth $5000 and is considered a rare, special snowflake gun
I really wish I would have bought...

Is GP90 as good as they say? What makes it shooter farther than 5.56 NATO?
>>28316422
It's just a special snowflake 5.56 round that's tailored to Switzerland's Sig rifles iirc.
>>28316493
It doesn't really perform any better than NATO stuff then?
/k/ i need your advice. I want to get a Styer AUG A3 because it looks good and from what i read it is a damn good gun. Sadly its base model price is 1800$ Should i just save up and get it or do you have another cheaper and better choice.
>>28316381
>>28316381
My AUG is my favorite long gun. It's worth every penny, you will not be disappointed in any way shape or form
Just save up and get it, OP. Just get one with a 20" barrel. Shame my guy didn't have it in stock.
A3 M1's are sexy.
I hear that the Swedish kept using pike-men (successfully) well into the 1700s, long after the other European powers abandoned it.
Its makes me wonder, at what point did the spear/pole-arm/pike become outdated beyond viability on the battlefield. Could they have kept using it like the Swedish longer than they did?
For example, I heard the British armed some of the Spanish with pikes when they were fighting Napoleon, with success. And the confederates were planning on arming soldier with pikes in the American civil war.

Or would this be better as a /his/ thread?
>>28315996
Maybe it could've been viable in WW1 if they used a really long pike that reached from one trench to the other.
>>28315996
>Shut up, those don't count.
But they do.
That is exactly what they are for - to bridge the gap between spear and firearm.
Honestly OP, why did you make this thread? What was going through your mind while you were typing it up?
While cleaning my granddad's house, we found this weapon in his bed frame. It can only be used as SA. There is no marking on it. I only have one round since it was loaded but we didn't found a box.
Do you have any idea what the weapon might be and what its caliber is?
