It's nekohen dude. His translation has been going for a while and it's been talked about on vndb.

>Sumaga fan TL announced, still at highschool
>Graduate highschool heard rumor jast pick it up

>>
>>15119814
It is. They realized the Nekohen name was ruined so they rebranded themselves and threw a fit on VNDB when people marked their garbage as machine translations and got the mods to mark it as a real translation and then lock their entries.

Welcome to VNDB's bullshit.
>>
>>15119931
I feel you anon. I can still remember the first time I got into VNs, I heard about this title when I was still a freshman in college. After I graduated and got a job, sumaga is still in editing.

Dovac went on a twitter rant earlier and during that he discussed that AX is looking to be "battle of the VNs this year", that they knew their model "would be copied" and that the the results of that will be apparent at AX.
>>
>>15120013
The more competition the better.

Just hope SP doesn't shit up too many of their releases.
>>
>>15120013

Not really a surprise, FrontwingINT is leading the way as a Sekai Project clone while Visual Arts is bringing over Key titles, and it's doubtful that they are alone in a struggling industry who sees a potentially large Western market from Kickstarter and Steam. Pretty much any title that is either cheap to localize (either short or has a fanTL), has name recognition, or is just a company's recent title is currently a candidate for localization.
>>
>>15120021
>The more competition the better.

It depends on what we get, thankfully Moenovel's absolute butchering didn't take off and trying to do Kickstarters with absolutely no effort doesn't work in the current market as the ChuSinGura 46+1 failures demonstrate. On the other hand good efforts like Degica with Muv Luv and MiKandi Japan have been rewarded. One would hope that the Debonosu Works aren't taking off in a significant way as more of those would be quite a bad way to expand competition.

Sekai Project has their problems, but some of their biggest successes are titles like Nekopara and the Winged Cloud titles which should help avoid new efforts from thinking like Moenovel did, and MangaGamer is paving the way to minimize what needs to be done to release titles on Steam which hopefully others will follow.

>Just hope SP doesn't shit up too many of their releases.

It will be interesting to see what happens with titles such as Ley Line, Tenshin Ranman, and Wagamama High Spec. G-Senjou problems appears to be entirely on Akabei Soft2, considering the answers during the Q&A last week, and the Sharin no Kuni kickstarter having most of the same problems. Frontwing lists Purino Party as "Adults Only" for it's rating, so it's difficult to believe that they are responsible for Sharin no Kuni's being all ages only either. Maitetsu is tricky because of the content that in all likelihood neither Jast nor MG would touch either, but aside from that it remains to be see if uncut Denpasoft releases are the norm or not for their big titles.
>>
>>15120004
What? No entries are locked and the one for the patch makes it clear that it's machine translation. One of the VNDB mods was even giving them shit over it.
>>
>>15120039
Wonder whether they'll still be interested after their first kickstarter falls flat on its arse
>>
>>15120173
They'd probably try to find something to blame, be it deciding to blame the title, their Western staff, or the bullshit from the developer they needed to include in the Kickstarter, as they already had success on Kickstarter with Grisaia. Sharin no Kuni is very well known though, and bullshit aside the expensive tiers are nice, so it is doubtful that it fails.

>Seinarukana- released
>Steam version has extensive additional content, routes and scenarios and even some new characters. It's so extensive I've been staying at work til 1 am every night translating it.
Does that mean the extra content isn't canon? I assume they didn't translate 90% of the game just to make the last 10% "extra" content.
>>
>>15120438
The large majority of the content in any route-based VN isn't canon. So I'm guessing no.

Still Bundles. Something appears to be going on with mangagamer's site, however. At the current moment it isn't displaying a top 5 at all, and prior to that, yesterday it appeared to be showing a top 5 that didn't include bundle sales(the first spot being the new AJtilley game and the second being Haruka, and the rest I've already forgotten). I wonder if they're looking to exclude bundles from the top 5?

Finally someone with the balls to stand up against this jewery.

dovac is in whiny mood today, lots of self-victimization and shrieking about ebil fanz.
>>
>>15120013
As long as this doesn't mean censored VNs and terrible translations, I completely support more companies getting in the localization business.

Also, dovac is actually unironically expecting people to not give them shit even when he tries to be more transparent. How can he expect people who felt multiple times offended and ignored to place their faith in SP just by a statement that doesn't confirm or deny anything?

Personally speaking, I don't give anymore the benefit of doubt to SP. If they want me to believe something, I need to see it happen.

To be honest, data points during bundles/bundle aftermath aren't really as important due to all the obscrufication making estimates impossible. Still, more information is more information.

>>15120697

That's a bundle that caused that spike, actually(gigantic spikes like that all are). If you really want an idea what was popular or not, you can look at the top 5 snapshot pastebin, which goes back to july of last year. The numbers/snapshots are sort of meant to be used together. Because the bundles became pretty numerous I also started logging the popularity chart, but it doesn't go back quite as far.

The Q&A they did (in video form, not the partial transcript afterwords) was one of the best things they have done in a long time, and improved my opinion of them as a company at the very least. Dovac is foolish though if he thinks that will make everyone who doesn't like him suddenly like him, or make people forget his constant twitter rants.

You are a fool if you think that Dovac will sell a 18+ version of Maitetsu on Denpasoft. The second and third part of Grisaia will only be all-ages so you can be sure that Maitetsu will be the same.
>>
>>15121981

>>
>>15122022
I would say selling an uncensored Maitetsu would clear their entire history of bad karma because it would be a giant leap for mankind.

But I don't think SP wants the industry to move forward, just backwards.
>>
>>15120101
Whether or not a game gets an uncut 18+ version depends on the dev and what content the game contains.
>>
>>15122152
They more than likely won't do an 18+ release due to fear of backlash from the casual audience and because someone would make a patch for the Steam release and Sekai would want to avoid that due to it tarnishing their all-ages reputation.

They already sold Grisaia uncut for the latter 2 titles in the backer kit, and Frontwing lists their upcoming title as an 18+ game. While there maybe bullshit delays, there is no reason to expect cancellation of Grisaia 18+.

Maitetsu most likely won't happen, and wouldn't happen with anyone in the market right now. Regardless though, the question is what happens with the 5 or 6 other 18+ titles Sekai Project has upcoming.

>>15122168
For trying to avoid controversy, it's funny that Sekai Project does what they can to avoid such problems, then goes out and picks up titles like Maitetsu and Yohjo Simulator.

Definitely not. He used to go by Ludo in the Rance thread, spent years lying about translating games and telling other people not to work on them because they were his projects. Things eventually came to a head when another translator who had pissed off most of that community when he stopped kissing the ring and started pointing out all the errors Ludo was making and demanded to see progress on a game Ludo had claimed. Ludo threw a gigantic temper tantrum, claimed to have severe mental illnesses that give him chronic long term amnesia and severe depression, and then ragequit.

A little later, when there was a big dicksucking festival for him on le Reddit under his alternate name, someone brought all that up so he went scorched earth on all his Rance shit, deleted every single video he had ever subbed, every wiki page he made, etc etc.

But his ask.fm account name is sciadv so he probably knows what he's talking about for those games right? I mean he does do all those translations of the drama CDs and supplementary material. Have people complained about the quality of those?

When the people who 'translated' Noble Works are saying that Dracu Riot's translation is full of errors, you have to start wondering.

Most people don't complain about terrible subs to begin with though, especially for half-assed little projects that can be done in an afternoon. Baka-tsuki is practically made of that kind of shit and the legions eagerly lap it up.

>>
>>15127443
That does sound a lot better.
Then I ask. Why wouldn't they release any of that on PC? Are they afraid that it would cut into the sales of the 3DS version or something? Or is it that the port work itself is more than they'd like to bother with?
>>
>>15127448
XSeed doesn't have the ability to port games themselves, they only have one overstretched programmer that tweaks existing PC games. And there could be licensing issues preventing them from mixing assets from the 3DS release into the PC one.
>>
>Dangarnonpa 2 only has 13k sales on Steam
Well, even hugely (relatively) popular franchises don't sell all that much on PC. Grisaia and Clannad have more than that.

I wish they doubled down on the niche audience and released more Vita VNs despite the additional difficulties. At least there's a dedicated guaranteed audience there.

>>
>>15127865
>It wasn't exclusive to the PSP, as there's already been an iOS port of it as well. This 3DS version represents the third version of the remake to be released in Japan.

>Porting the remake version to PC, too, is a bit beyond the capabilities of what we'd be able to do on our end, and is unlikely to be done on Japan's side either simply because sales of the remake version would inevitably cut into sales of the original indie PC version. And remember, the indie PC version was released by Team GrisGris exclusively, so Team GrisGris get 100% of the profits -- whereas the PSP, iOS and upcoming 3DS versions were/are being released by 5pb/Mages, so the profits are shared. It's unlikely from a business standpoint, I think, that GrisGris would allow 5pb to publish a remade version of their game on the same platform where the original is already available, as even if it were successful, GrisGris themselves would likely see fewer profits due to the cut 5pb would take from the deal.

>Besides which, the differences between the PC version and the remake are kind of fascinating! They're like two sides of a coin -- it's the same material, but presented in a very different way. I initially dismissed the PC version as being inferior when I saw footage comparing the two, but after playing both, I can honestly say that each one has its charms, and it's really hard to decide which I like better.

Why Tokyo?

The story takes its setting from Christian mythology and then throws in Tokyo which doesn't come to my mind when trying to come up with important places from Christian mythology.
