You really are out of the loop. If something is fan translated nowadays, it's basically a machine TL.

The first and only patch they released for it was unarguably machine translated.
http://imgur.com/a/QMgjQ

Since then, they've done the usual thing of claiming that they've started over, pulled new translators out of their asses, and everything is 100% fixed without showing any actual proof of it.

Well that's sad. I feel bad for you, EOP friends.

Noble Works was too? I saw some comments stating translation mistakes were found immediately after it came out.

When even Reddit is cataloging lists of errors from the first 5 minutes of the game and calling it bad, you know it's fucking bad.

There's nothing wrong with going on reddit. There's nothing wrong with posting on reddit.
Just like how its good to check different news sources, its good to check on different visual novel discussion sources.

Discriminating someone who goes on a website is stupid.

Who you actually hate are dumb people.

The sad truth is that they're everywhere, even on /jp/. It's just that reddit has more popularity and a more encouraging environment and enables those retards to openly speak out and say stupid things. It's like how 4chan enables everybody to say hateful aggressive things to everybody else. If reddit didn't have any rules, it'd be essentially the same as here.

The quantity of remaining evangile wallscroll bundles has decreased from 44 to 40 this week, and it has maintained it's secondplace ranking on the charts. As usual, hardcopy sales don't appear to be too intense.

In other news, although the bundle continues to obscure sales, freefriends 2 is likely outpacing that OELVN that's launching at the same time as it. judging by the popularity sort

Why is Magical Eyes listed under MangaGamer? It's a Fruitbat Factory release.
>>
>>14600608
Sooner or later, Steam will have enough VN saturation that not every title brought to Steam will be an instant hit. When that time comes, maybe certain companies that basically make it their business model to "translate" (i.e. steal existing fan translations) VNs and then make a tidy profit by selling it to the weeb Steam crowd will no longer be feasible.
>>
>>14600613
Probably because MG sells and promotes it,
http://www.mangagamer.com/detail.php?goods_type=1&product_code=160
>>
>>14600617
> Steam will have enough VN saturation
Unless miracle happens and there's 10+ VN releases per month, its not ever going to get "saturated". People move on to new shiny toys instead re-reading same old shit forever (moreover, half of steam crowd doesn't even read shit they bought ), so older releases do not compete with newer ones.
>>
>>14600618
>promotes it,

Let's not tell fibs here anonymous
>>
>>14600618
Yeah, but they do the same with, for example, Konosora (which is clearly Moenovel), or No One But You (published by Sekai on Steam). Does that make them MangaGamer games too?
>>
>>14600541
Kouryuu has been much faster these past months. Just look at the previous thread where its translation was at 70.3% translated and now it's 75%.
At this pace I'm expecting DC3 translation to be done in less than half a year.

>>14600608
I suppose the guy that is still doing PE videos will play DC3. And since the game is long as fuck, it'll have a lot of exposure (provided he does a lot of videos of it).
>>
Anyone else feel that MG has too many cheap, generic looking VNs up in their lineup? Was checking out if there was anything worth getting (purely based on visual aspects at first), but I had to click quite often until I finally found some games that didn't absolutely SCREAM generic VN style, cheap mass-produced backgrounds and boring characters. So genertic that all of those characters could be exchanged from one game to another and no one would ever know the difference.

InnocentGrey stuff looks okay, I'm divided on minori (the art looks nice, but the characters don't), maybe Liar-soft? But that's about it, I wouldn't even waste a thought about buying that other trash.
>>
>>14599937

MG is really pushing for a fast release. The progress on Haruka has been really fast.

Also, didn't MG say some weeks ago that they should have some news on Umineko quite soon?

Funny how you call someone else a peasant when you're the inexperienced one around here. /jp/ generally doesn't take kindly to newbies, so I suggest heading over to /vg/'s VN General thread; you'll have much better luck fishing for recommendations there.
>>
>>14600955
>This is 4chan.
This is your problem. 4chan is a collection of boards. Often, when outsiders or /b/tards refer to '4chan', they instead refer to /b/ rather than the whole site. Board culture differs per board. 'Reddit is our enemy' is a /b/ thing, as is as calling other people 'newfags'.

/jp/ generally dislikes Reddit, but that is due to a lack of respect for how the site works (encouraging attention whoring and group behavior with their forced names and voting system) and their userbase, not out of some petty rivalry.

A lot of people we like to see posting here also post on Reddit, particularly those involved in VN translation (commercial or fan translation). With the current state of /jp/, you can hardly blame VN fans for going to Reddit when looking for VN discussion. It may be full of newbies, but at least they still discuss VNs there.
>>
>>14600673
Um, you must have an awfully strange definition of "cheap", given how minori puts more money into visuals than any other eroge developer.

I wonder if after that shitting on moege if arunaru's current project is moege. Oh MG, please license this. It's 07th Expansion with good art. Steam users will eat it up.

>This all-ages horror doujin title by Ryuukishi07 comes out concurrently in package form via Toranoana and electronically via DMM.com. All boys in the Suzuhara family leave home to live by themselves once they have reached a certain age. By training their mind and body without the help of others, they are deemed to have become men. Susumu has been prepared for this day, and set out from his home to live by himself in an apartment owned by his distant relative Tsubakiko’s family and to attend Susuda prefectural high school.

>He spends his days happily and comfortably, but there was something strange about his classmate Toe. She always holds what appears to be a Japanese doll to her chest. There were whispers that it must be a cursed doll whose hair would suddenly grow long. It appeared to be just a weird doll, but his meeting with her was destined to happen.

>Ryukishi07’s back to writing horror/mystery instead of trying to collaborate with other writers. Luckily, he’s also got a proper illustrator (Kazuharu Kina) to make the characters not look so derpy. The origin of the story is probably the Okiku doll, with its curse spreading to the students at the school. It might be an interesting read for those wishing for a change in genre or just wanting more of Ryukishi07’s stories

The reason for Haruka fast release is MG actually want to bring better marketable Alicesoft modern VN like Daiteikoku, Blade Briders and Rance series. Too bad Alicesoft prefer start their localization with something old so they don't have no choice to choose Haruka instead. So they hope this sold enough to convince Alicesoft to localize their big title.

Arunaru and Maria works fast anyway.

Haruka fits the profile of games that sell for Mangagamer perfectly.

It's also much newer than Rance VI. So I seriously doubt Mangagamer don't prefer Haruka over VI

The whole Rance thing is just to convince Rance fags to pay up hoping that Rance will be next when we all know it will be Escalayer

Very few people considering the reaction of the vast majority of people who played Daiteikoku.

The game doesn't give you that though... it doesn't give you enough information to make smart moves, and punishes you for not knowing. Think how Sengoku Rance would be if you couldn't see the units the enemy had and then you lost the game if you failed an attack.

VNDB: 307 votes total, average 7.84 (good), 200 out of 300 votes are 8 and above.
EGS: 中央値72. While its a bit low, its nowhere near "bad game" or anything like that. Drapeko is 71, yet people from your clique treat it as almost-kamigem.

>>
>>14605112
>it bombed so hard in japan
You have very wild imagination. Its one of their best-selling titles, with more sold copies than many Rance games and many times more than other titles of Dai-series.

Daiakuji is doujin-level trash with almost zero story, very short and boring h-scenes and very annoying gameplay. If you would know Japanese, you would know that its nothing than just dumb gag about "lol nazi feminists conquering japan wwwwww".

You're both idiots. It sold marginally better (and worse) than games with a one year or less development time. It was closer to an entire decade in development than not, including scrapping the entire engine at one point. Money in vs Money Out. It's not complicated. It sold well, but Money In vs Money Out. It's not a complicated concept. And it did not sell "many times more" than either Daiakuji or Daibanchou.

>>14604607
The only change was to show the enemy ships before you committed to the attack. It's still the same trivial RPS design at its core where if you bring the ships it tells you to, you win a flawless victory, and if you bring literally anything else, instant game over. It still doesn't tell you that you have to sit on your ass and wait or do certain things to unlock the ships you need at various points, nor has anything done about the ridiculous bloat nor the terrible characters. It's only gone from completely unplayable to alternatively completely obtuse and completely trivial.

They tend to release alot of nukige, though it isn't surprising since they're cheaper to license, cheaper to translate, and are guaranteed to turn a profit.

After Princess Evangile was released in March, with the exception of the Higurashi retranslation, they didn't start releasing more non-nukige games until September. Overall, still not a bad year because several noteworthy games were released and licensed.

That's exactly what I'm doing. Seems interesting enough. I hate Sekaii project pulling this kickstarter shit all the time, but I have a bad feeling this will fail. It'll be interesting to see what happens if it does. From the kickstarter, it looks like they're shooting for a March release which means they're already in the midst of translating it and dealing with the engine. If the kickstarter fails, would they actually just drop all the work they already have done for it?

Probably because they're the only company that releases nukige regularly. And the Western stigma is that if you release any porn you're just a porn company (yes, I realize all eroge is porn but you know what I mean).
>>
>>14608922

Sekai and JAST both release porn, yet they aren't porn companies. The difference is the porn dominates MG's catalogue.
>>
>>14608932
>JAST releases porn, yet it isn't a porn company.

Fixed.
>>
>>14608932
How is JAST any different other than their inability to actually release titles regularly? Almost all of their products are porn.
>>
>>14608971

JAST either releases gameplay eroge or story centric VNs. Over the past 4 years they may have released 1 straight up nukige that wasn't heavily focused on gameplay.

Compare that to MG who probably released 10 straight up nukige in the 2 years, which is actually a decrease in what they used to release, and that's not including games which are nukige in all but name... like Sakura Santa.
>>
>>14608995
>released 10 straight up nukige in the 2 years

You're off by around 100%.
They translated six themselves in 2015. Plus released a few more EVN nukige.
They translated 11 in 2014. 12 if you count Shuffle's fuckfest fandisk.
10 in 2013, or 11, again, for another Shuffle fuckfest.

This doesn't count things not on VNDB either, like Demon Master Chris.

And they already have 6 announced for 2015 (or 7 with another fuckfest fandisk) with almost certainly more to come.
>>
>>14608995
JAST's two highest profile titles last year were Starless and Shiny Days, two games entirely about porn.
>>
>14609011
Where did you get six from? Are you counting KuroInu as three separate titles? I only count four. KuroInu, Haruka, Boss Ex, and FF2. If you count W Evangile(which from the sounds of it has enough text to not be a fuckfest) that is only 5.

Ironically Root Double might be failing because Sekai listened to feedback from backers.

>Why no digital copy free with physical copy of the game?
>Why do you promise ports but never deliver?
>The rewards I backed for still haven't arrived!

Thought there's also the possibility that the devs didn't have the time/money to invest more effort in their KS and/or Sekai just assumed it'd be a slam dunk.
>>
>>14608995
>like Sakura Santa.
I don't count the 3rd Party games, since they don't work on them, they just put them in the catalog.
>>
>>14609922
I wouldn't count W Happiness, since it has enough non-porn content to get an all-ages release.

The only other thing he could be counting would be Kindred Spirits, but while the plot involves sex, it's not graphic and there's too much characterization and plot for it to be considered a nukige.

Libra is doing just fine, so it's not that. It's just that Sekai Project isn't managing their kickstarters well and burned through too much good will. It's not necessarily the case that DirectX 9 indicates XP support. Vista added some calls to the Windows API, and if the game uses any of these then pre-Vista support is out of the question.

>>
>>14611873
>>14611907
That's only scratching the surface. The short version is:

He created tools for extracting and replacing scripts for early Ys games.
He posted the scripts asking for someone to help translate them.
Some guy responded and translated them and they continued working together.
Eventually, they reached a game and NW withheld it from release. You had to donate to him to get access to it.
Someone donated, then turned around and released it publicly. Nightwolve flipped his shit (and still is) about entitled fans stealing his hard earned money from him.
XSeed licensed Ys for localization and contacted the translator. The translator and XSeed signed a deal, and XSeed sent him their copies of the scripts, which the translator put his old stuff into.
Nightwolve flipped his shit again over this for being cut out of the deal and being uncredited for "being responsible that the translation existed at all."

He did no translation work whatsoever, and claims to have "made fan translation history with a decade of work and 60,000 patch downloads." If you dig a little deeper into his site, you can also find his many rants about how fans are all entitled assholes because they never DONATED money to him and he'd have never put in his hard FAN work if he didn't expect to be paid for it. He's been throwing fits about XSeed and that translator ever since then.
>>

To be completely honest, could this just be because the west just isn't interested in paying for game like Root Double? It's nowhere near as famous as Clannad or Grisaia. And once people hear "amnesiac protagonist" they probably assume it's some generic story. There's a limit to what a non-kamige can hope to achieve. It's popular in Japan, but so was Himawari and that's not exactly taking the western audience by storm either.
>>
>>14612130
RD is definitely far more famous and desired in the west than Libra, yet Libra is doing better.
>>
>>14612137
That just shows that waifus and porn sell better than actual plot.
>>
>>14612130
It's a combination of people losing trust in SP, a project goal that is way too high, and the game being on limited platforms. There is an audience for this in the West, but it's people buying Zero Escape games, and they don't know that this exists and if they do, they don't play games on the PC.
>>
>>14612137
Libra has a better run campaign with tiers that people actually want besides the most basic $30 one. This Root Double campaign was poorly conceived and planned.
>>
>>14612165
Also fraught with white lies.
>>
>>14612149
I'm sure kickstarter fatigue is also setting in. That and serious story visual novels have never done that well over here. Moege and nukige just seem to attract bigger numbers then something serious.

Don't be surprised when mid-February Root Double has a lot of jumps as people get tax returns. I fully expect that if at any point Dovac wants to add in some money, he would do it then to seem as none suspicious as possible.
>>
>>14612149
>people losing trust in SP
The people who really cared about the game are backing it despite not planning to initially. Others just didn't care about it that much, it was just another well-regarded vn to read.

>a project goal that is way too high
Libra's is only 10k lower.

>and the game being on limited platforms

If anything people in the West usually go for games like Root Double. Though I think there is a slight difference in the markets for sci-fi VNs and generic moe VNs like Libra, with the latter being the type to splurge on higher tiers so they can get overpriced cute anime girl merch.

You're not far off the mark. Hugely aggravated eczema to the point where the dermatologist first thought it was shingles. Also, it got infected in places (most painfully around the base of the neck, where the skin naturally creases and tends to remain covered in heavy clothing, forming a perfect breeding ground in the cold winter months).

It's far more under control now but back when I was running around thinking it was just a wintry season thing that would pass soon I didn't really treat it properly.

I can see if I can get some high-def pics of it (phone selfies don't have the quality to do it justice) but I don't think that's really related. The important thing is that I have meds for it now, it's not aggravating me much anymore, and I'm back in action.

... not like anyone should really care who I am, but whatever. I just hope that everyone can fap happily to what I work on instead of gagging on gibberish.

Yes. The one who sucks cocks.

As someone who has a bit of eczema on my arm, I can only imagine how awful a more severe case would be. No fucking clue who you are, but I hope your condition continues to improve.

Just a Mangagamer editor with an inflated sense of self-worth since he tweeted that he sucked on a dildo to understand how it sounds to suck a cock.

As someone who also suffers from severe eczema I know your pain my man. Glad it's getting better for you atleast.

Well, that sucks. Moisturize and buy soaps without perfume in them.

It's pretty likely that it'll heal over the course of a couple years and you'll just end up with some discolored pockmarks. If it's not on your face, I doubt it'll matter.

Not that it matters anyway, you edit japanese porn and post here so you're a permavirign for life regardless.

Damn, I was told eczema wasn't that uncommon, but I didn't think it was this common. Or do eczema and VN readers go hand in hand?

something something correlation causation

It's all over my neck at the very least. It attracts hilarious stares in public all the time already to the point where I try and wear a (comfy) scarf while out and about for more reasons that just keeping away cold air. And that's just what's visible, it's all over... other... places as well.

The dermatologist sincerely offered to recommend me a good plastic surgeon, no joke. I declined. Porn doesn't pay that well, unfortunately.

>permavirgin

Hey now, can't write good porn without firsthand experience, y'know.
