Is it just me or is Touhou slowly losing interest in general?
One of the major points on why I liked Touhou was that they managed to go without "big" games, developers and publishers. Everything was kept small and doujin, produced with honest love.
Now that more and more fangames find their way to the consoles, 14.5 getting a re-release on PS4 and all these non subtle crossovers for no fucking reason, just make Touhou look like a soulless mass of waifus to me.
If I had the money, I would buy out the Touhou franchise in a second and would return to the "old" way of handling the franchise; doujin and on PC only.

There is quite a bit less interest in touhou in general than there used to be, but that's because interest in touhou exploded in 2007 around MoF's release. The number of touhou circles at comike back then grew to ridiculous levels for example, even as comike itself was getting a boom in attendance.
The touhou "fanbase" seems to have plateau'd around 2010 and now is slowly decreasing as people loose interest, and not many people are getting into the newer games. Also the western fanbase pretty much decimated itself but that was always just a small part.
Overall touhou is still pretty big though, lots of people at reitaisai.

The Reitaisai 13 convention preview on ishino's blog lists 72 fangames. This is down from ~100 at Reitaisai 10, but it's still quite a bit.
Don't mistake the complete absence of Western interest or uploads with the actual absence of fangames. Sure, a lot of them are probably shovelware-tier, but it's doujin.

The main problem I see is not decline of 2hu in the east, no, it's still healthy there. I'm worried about 2hu in the west. People lose interest and there is not enough newcomers to substitute them. And it means that we get less translations.

I checked voile.gensokyo.org and it's dead. We still get lots of 2hu raws uploaded on sadpanda every week, but we get a lot less percentage of translations compared to previous years. Same goes for danbooru, people translate and put notes for all other franchises, but not 2hu.
Bottom line: if you know japanese you have nothing to worry about (yet). But for EOP it's not a bright future.
