So it would seem that mangagamer's website must have a hard limit(5) on the amount of new products that can be displayed in the coming soon section of a catalog, as to get around the problem of no one being able to buy the haruka wallscroll/wallscroll+LE outside of those blog links, they've added a rather clunky fix consisting of a show more link that links to http://www.mangagamer.com/product_list.php?goods_type=3&opt=cmsn. Oh mangagamer, you and your ghetto-ass website.

Friends I'm gonna predict the future and say 聖鍵遣いの命題 is gonna be announced for localization. Probably by Sekai Project.

Check out how the game looks, the story synopsis and the reviews. Perfect mix of of hastily-made game with EOP appeal to make "mad money" on Steam while it's still possible.

Reference reviews and tag comments:
http://erogamescape.dyndns.org/~ap2/ero/toukei_kaiseki/game.php?game=22863

>どんな選択肢を選ぼうが行きつく先は同じです。回想にヒロインのHシーンが追加されるかどうかだけ
>選択肢はあるが意味はない
>ある意味長いね。だって個別ないようなものだもの。
>RPGゲーをそのまま文章に起こしたような内容。

Short summary in English:
>LN-like artstyle (pretty good one actually)
>premise like from a generic fantasy battle harem LN with an anime adaptation
>writing like from an anime JPRG
>H scenes as unlockable extras (=game is easily keckable for Steam release)
>short, choices don't matter, meaning ADD Steam users might actually finish it

Seems like writing is on the wall.
>>
>>15347209
It does sound completely like it's trying to go for the LN feel, just in VN form. Tribute or stealth parody?
>>
>>15347304
More likely a conscious effort to aim for that audience.

Honestly it would even be a servicable and enjoyable game if they didn't fuck it up like the reviews mention. Makes me believe they'll rely on other source of cash - clueless Steam gamers.

I wholly recommend Fata Morgana. Reading it was such a joy.

The ChuSinGura finished, getting only a mere 6% of it's goal. Remains to be seen if they show up to take a parting shot for people not supporting their poorly done project, but otherwise, doubt they try to do anything else under Japan Contents, though they are likely to try again under a third name with something else, provided they didn't lose enough with their first 2 efforts to make it no longer viable.

Only SP's release in pic, even though MG has also released a game this week. Hi dovac.
>>
Wonder what IG thinks about jast now that they're 6 months past the fall 2015 date they said they could have flowers out by
>>
>>15347590

That Flowers possibly won't bomb like their games did with MG?
>>
>>15347607
Yuri can't bomb in this 2016 era. It'll attract the tumblr lesbians and someone else will make a petition for a flowers anime.
>>
>>15347590
Ironically, it would probably be out by now if they did give it to MG. Maria was salivating over the chance to translate it, after all.

>>15347607
I don't think a JAST game ever failed in in terms of sales.

A fantasy battle harem LN with voices and music is exactly the type of thing that I want. Going to check it out later today. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

>>15347667
I don't think a JAST game ever got released until their preorders guaranteed a profit.

Yeah, I'd be up for it too, but it doesn't seem done well.

This one isn't either, I thought I made it obvious in my post.

>>15347682
Well, my standards aren't too high so hopefully it's still fun.

Pretty sure they don't give a fuck about the western market, they don't even bother to retweet Jast or MG tweets about their titles.
>>
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dharkerstudio/the-bounce-visual-novel-series/

In addition to the original game (Beach Bounce) and its first sequel (Beauty Bounce). Its getting another five sequels beyond that. Its like some kind of malignant tumor now.
>>
>>15347885
This has to be some kind of money laundering scam at this point.
>>
>>15347669
JAST stealth-released some dating nukige w/out preorders once, I believe.
>>
>>15347885
That is because they know the market.

- Free patch / same price on all-ages and adult content? Wow, exactly how it should be. Now which Japanese company has this figured out? Maybe Mikandi, not so sure about any others.
- A group of girls. I still don't understand the gamble with making 1-2 girl VNs that will only sell if your customers liked their design.
- Not rape/mind-crushing focused.

It would be better with localized titles following that pattern. But you can only buy what is being produced.
>>
>>15347551
>Only SP's release in pic, even though MG has also released a game this week. Hi dovac.
MG's release was a non-notable nukige. It's plenty common for them not to be featured, even when there's not even another release that week (and the image is just a project in progress).
>>
>>15347607
Yuri and Steam means it could sell like Kindred Spirits did for MG. We'll see how many people are interested in an all-ages episodic yuri VN this time.
>>
I wonder how MG feels about the Steam market now. They put games on Steam to make more sales, but now companies that sell well on Steam are starting to want to cut them out of the deals. Not to mention their sales on Steam have started tanking for story vns. And the Steam forums are a cesspool, where if you don't let people do whatever they want, they complain that you're Totalitarian. I think they're even worse than the MG forums ever were.

Apparently Aroduc's translating France Shoujo.

Why are all the most shitty OELVN devs from the UK? First Winged Cloud and now AJTilley.
>>
>>15348650
The bigger question is why do OELVNs sell on Steam so much better then regular VNs ?
>>
>>15348733
Cheap prices and the most stupid of consumers. Weebs take one look at Sakura and think it's a Japanese game. I don't know about AJTilley. tumblr? The art is hideous and they all have the tumblr nose thing going on. I don't know how that one got popular.

Japs don't know how to market VNs in the west. Hell, even SP and MG barely marketed Root Double and Fata Morgana respectively.

>>
>>15348826
Yes it is that simple. You release games the way fans want them, and you sell. Because buying PC VN is almost entirely politics these days.

You are not catering and listening to fans? Well piracy will solve that. If you want to sell, you have to adapt to customer demands.
>>
>>15348899
Translating Japanese VNs is alot trickier though. They can be much longer and have professional voice acting so they'll be expensive by Steam standards. And Japanese companies are very risk adverse and might not listen to the publisher's suggestions.

>>
>>15352777
Yes. They may be getting publishers but they're all shit and can only chug out maybe 1 or 2 game from them each year. Look at their partnership with propeller. They decided to go with no name TB and then the no name pygmalion instead of the better ayakashibito/etc and even asairo.

And then look at alicesoft and how they had to do BBH and not rance like everybody wanted.

the english VN scene right now is a gachapon where there's stuff good stuff available but all you get is shit.

A "good" moege hasn't even come out yet from anybody.

I'll be laughing my ass off seeing Pygmailon completely outsell TB. Guess what, Evolimit, Ayakashibito and Bullet Butlers are also no name VNs to most that even bother to buy VNs. I wonder what kind of reasoning you're having to think those VNs would sell better. Simply some name recognition in the VN community? If that's the case, you should understand by now that unless that VN has a HUGE name behind it, it won't sell much.

I'm not so sure about Asairo and SukiMa given their different natures though.
>>
>>15353882
>HUGE name behind it, it won't sell much.
Well, let me correct myself. Having a big name is what seals the deal in some cases but if a VN similar to PE gets the same type of attention because of a youtuber it'll almost certainly be success. And moeges sell better than more serious VNs.
>>
>>15353455
>A "good" moege hasn't even come out yet from anybody.

The new Sekai Project survey is long, 30+ pages. No license requests or developer requests, though pretty much asks everything else. Several questions about 18+ releases, and they directly ask about Jast, MG, and Nutaku.

They also made you rank things in order on a few questions, one had you rank your interest of 12 upcoming titles, which is a bit of a pain that you can't just give half the list "don't care at all".

I'd think it's more to have a place to sell physical stuff, and developing a storefront helps keep Japanese developers from going off to do their own thing because you offer more than just putting a title on Steam
>>
>>15358908
That was a wonderful survey. I got to totally diss Nutaku as the trash it is, and point out that sekai is barely better.

Now if they follow my 3 steps to improvement, I would say Sekai is the best. Will be fun since the most important point was uncensored maitetsu.

They updated Corona Blossom with an FAQ, a couple things from it.

>Patch distribution:
>The 18+ patch will be downloadable directly from Frontwing.
>It may also be available through other channels.

So they are going to have their own distribution platform/store front for 18+ releases/patches (in addition to anywhere else they end up including)

>About DRM:
>The digital version of Corona Blossom Vol.1 will be delivered through Steam, and all limitations of that platform apply.
>Furthermore, the physical package, as well as the retail version which will be sold in Japan, have a form of DRM included.

Good luck crowdfunding with that. Honestly though, the demand isn't there for Corona Blossom in general to get them to reverse that, but it's probably quite relevant if they plan to do the same for Sharin no Kuni.
>>
>>15360341
Sharin no Kuni's an old title though, so they might not feel as inclined with the DRM.

>>
>>15363874
Sekai workers said Winged Cloud's VNs were shit (truer words have never been said) which hurt Winged Cloud's dev's feeling so he jumped to MG. Afterwards MG, out of the good of their hearts, tried to fix the shitty as fuck grammar that is in the Sakura series. This also hurt said faggot's feelings. With nowhere else to go but back to Sekai (Peter Payne, like /jp/, is a weeb and wholly uninterested in OELVN trash), Winged Cloud decided to go back to the original publisher so they can both be shitty together.
>>
>>15348115
it's ok they have good nukige now so I don't care about all ages shit on steam
>>
>>15348115
With regards to story titles, while there surely has been some decline on Steam, I think a large part is the specific titles they started releasing. Liarsoft, Propeller, and Novectacle don't have nearly the appeal that moege, their yuri titles and Higurashi do. That said, they have Umineko coming up which should do very well for them on Steam, and Supipara not too far away to reverse the tide.

As to the Japanese companies cutting them out, that was likely as soon as the Western market showed signs of life. Going forward though, they should still thrive in their niche of nukige and other 18+ only releases as that is much harder to replace for the companies that release titles that can't readily have a Steam version made. They also should still be able to get moege and other titles which can have a Steam/18+ release for a while, as most companies are not doing their own thing yet, any many trying to do their own thing won't be able make that strategy successful, with results like Japan Contents. Mangagamer is also in a good position to make deals to distribute the 18+ version of titles that Japanese companies are putting onto Steam themselves, though Nutaku might end up stealing a lot of that market if their store is successful.
>>
>>15364872
It's a mixed feeling really, seeing Moonstone break off to do their own thing and more VN companies coming forward to handle it themselves instead of relying on a third-party like JAST and MangaGamer is great for getting even more VNs out faster, but the lack of quality assurance means that every release could be a poorly translated cash-grab like Debonosu.

At least with current MangaGamer (and JAST barring Flower), if they release something, I can rest easy knowing that it wouldn't be KonoSora-tier.
>>
>>15364872
Higurashi and Umineko are some of the few famous VNs that MG has licensed, so of course they'd sell well.

Your average story title isn't going to be a hit on Steam. Moege will sell very well, but Steam has also softened recently, and any title that comes after likely won't reach Princess Evangile numbers. If publishers start pumping out countless moege that will also saturate the market, which is what the Japanese devs will probably end up doing.

I'm not convinced that Supipara will be a success. It's all-ages only, episodic, and currently incomplete even in Japan. Why would people buy into a series that might take years to be finished?
>>
>>15364202
If Peter Payne is a weeb, then where are my fucking honorifics?
>>
>>15365352
Yeah, if every Japanese company wanting to get involved with the market was on par with the effort Frontwing is putting forth, everything would be great. But we are far more likely to get projects like KonoSora, early MG, and current Debonosu Works fror any given project.
>>
>>15364872
The decline on Steam is because of the exact same reason as the decline of anime on TV in the 90s.

Oversaturation of crap (with inflated reviews/advertisement/etc.), reducing interest because it creates the perception that it's all crap to people just trying out the medium. SP flooding Steam with OELVNs have literally been murdering everything for short-term profits.

It will never recover, just like anime never became super-popular again.
>>
>>15366142

>>15366174
I'd say it is the opposite. SPs low priced VNs have shown that you can make a killing selling things cheap. Leave it to Japan to still believe it needs to be high priced to make up for the low sales numbers.

As far as I know the low sale count of story VNs is all because of price. Most are just waiting for summer sale, which all Japanese companies will ignore because they want full price. Maybe some people will give up on discounts and buy them around September.

>>15360341
They added another page of FAQ, they don't plan to crowdfund 2+3 though they would look to sell similar merchandise depending on how well this does. Considering how it is doing fairly meh now, that probably means hard English copies only for volume 1 of the 3.

If Jast didn't want it, or couldn't start it before the decade is over, perhaps something like Tokyo Necro would make sense going through MG if only because others aren't viable. But I would agree, it seems unlikely Nitroplus would decide to go with MG even if they drop exclusivity.

In the past it had seemed like those involved talked that way, for example Moogy, when he was involved with the Nitro+ stuff for Jast, said that Jast "has exclusive access to N+ titles and can release any of them at any time."

I'm hopeful though that they are in fact branching out to allow others to license their titles. Jast has done a good job with the Nitroplus titles they have released, but they picked up the partnership at AX 7 years ago, and during that time have only released Demonbane, Saya no Uta, Steins;Gate, and Hanachirasu.

>>15371402
IF degica is only hitting Steam's launch button and doing a poor job of promotion, then the devs don't need them.
>>
>>15371141
Actually there are different laws for different age ranges. For example in New Jersey as long as the girls are 16 or older it's fine to depict them in sexual situations, which is the minimum age for most eroge anyway.
>>
>>15371665
Real or cartoon? In Sweden it is illegal for real girls to be in porn unless they are 18. Cartoons on the other hand is legal for all ages.

I think there is a reason they write 18 or older and not 16 and older on packages, so most likely enough places have those teens as illegal.

Though to be fair, it is almost only Canada and Australia that bothers with cartoon laws. Every other place is maybe one case in 10 years. Which is very little considering how many people have loli.
>>
>>15371725
Cartoon, not real of course. That shit is always 18 or older everywhere.
I mean yeah, most devs will just leave the ages out or say every character is 18 or older, but the lolicon and underaged laws are pretty arbitrary. I just know that there are some places with separate laws for characters being prepubescent and characters being just under "adult" age.

Most cases that try loli have to do with real CP as well. I think there was only one case ever where somebody got charged just for cartoon porn in the US, at least. Canada and Aus are hell.
>>
>>15371741
Not to mention most cases the people got told to confess that it was a crime, instead of actually letting a person who knows law determine it in a court. I'd be surprised if anyone actually went to court and got sentenced.
>>
>>15371725
>>15371741
Australia here, please don't lump us in with Canada, we're nowhere near that bad.
>>
>>15371725
When you say cartoons you are probably right. I guess you are referring to the case with the mango translator. Keep in mind that one of his pictures was ruled illegal, and he only got away with it because of his expert status.

If your drawings are too realistic you can get in trouble in Sweden.
>>
>>15371829
Not to mention the only reason it got to court was because his wife tried to get custody of their child and figured reporting those images would help her.

So unless you got realistic cartoon drawings and a wife that hates you, you are pretty safe in Sweden.
