4n is the best and most recent version but requires a CD key to play online.

The entire game is in moon, but it vocally announces Yaku when a hand is won so it can help you learn your yaku.

There's also character specific powers and abilities which nobody ever uses in online because they're all OP as fuck

It's also the only mahjong game that has aotenjou rule.

Regardless of the outcome, was pushing here the right choice? Even if the difference between me in first place was so small I felt like everyone's hands were going too fast except mine.
>>
>>15157030
Yes. You don't get points for second place in ippan, so if you don't come first you've just wasted half an hour.
>>
>>15157044
Who cares? It's the R that matters baby. The more you inflate your R at a lower rank the better.
>>
>>15157063
Unless you're totally new to the game or just really bad, R shouldn't be a problem. By the time you reach 4d your R should be around 1800 anyway.

>>

So yeah, I think I can do better.
>>
>>15157779
If you ignore your R and first 350 games you'd still be around the right dan after 350 games.
>>

Actually think I've reached 2 dan in less than 300 games and got demoted a couple of times. Spent the next hundreds getting it back.
>>

Just for comparison -- reaching 4dan at about 200 games is just about right. I reached 3dan at around 100 games so go figure.

I’ve re-read the rules. Nagashi mangan IS a yakuman, the thing is that 8000 is the basic points for any yakuman, but since nagashi mangan cannot be won neither by ron nor by tsumo, multipliers are not applied to the basic points. And the sum players pay is divided as usual, 1× per non-dealer and 2× for the dealer.

Sometimes, I've accidentally queue'd up no realizing which lobby I was selected for. For example, after playing in a tournament lobby, the interface defaults to ippan immediately after. It's not something I normally check, when I'm used to defaulting in a higher lobby.
>>
>>15169277
But the real fuck up is pushing your yakuhai nomi with a shit wait. It's always tempting to go balls to the wall in extra rounds but you shouldn't be ignoring defence even if it would have won you the game.

He can't win off east. It's pointless. For him to change his rank, he needs 11,000 points on a ron unless third place deals into him. The highest possible value from winning off east is mangan (riichi, chitoi, two ura). If he tsumos, he can get third with a mangan or higher, although that would require haitei, or ura which would give him haneman.

Furthermore, even if he doesn't tsumo, it's possible the game will continue if east is tenpai, giving him another chance to improve his rank.
>>
>>15171647
Just to correct myself a little bit, he can actually tie with a mangan on a ron off someone else but third, but due to the seating order that would still end with him 4th. The only way he'd want to win off ron is if there were an extra honba or riichi stick, or if it were third who dealt the haku.
>>
>>15171647
>He can't win off east. It's pointless
It's double riichi so with ura he'll get haneman
Getting ura dora is more likely than drawing haku at this point
>>
>>15171700
Somehow I missed the double riichi. Whoops. Still, double riichi chitoi is only 6400 on ron. I can see him wanting to try for tsumo for the guarantee or just going into another round. It's not an entirely illogical choice.
>>
>>15171700

For manga, Mudazumo, Tetsunaki no Kirinji, or the rest of Akagi storyline (Ten, Hero). Then there's Janki/Shin Janki and Tohai live action. Akagi also has live action.
However, most, if not all mahjong manga/anime/live action tend to rely on bullshit logic & play. So if you want to learn, just play it over and over.

Kabe is essentially counting tiles, that you can see. That includes discards, the dora indicator, and your own hand. Then using that to infer the safety of discarding certain tiles.
>>

I think many people hit this point, like >>15174950 said, watching everyone else right from the beginning is good to keep track of kabe and almost kabe tiles. I used to just name each tile in my head as they were discarded but that's because I'm dumb

Most of the yaku are related to each other in some way. Like Chin/Honitsu, chanta/junchan/honrouto/chinrouto. You just pick them up by playing. The only really difficult thing to memorise is scoring, which there's no real shortcut for, other than the double fu = -1han thing

Count han, if it's not mangan then count fu. If you know the scoring table apply it, if not check it up. For most beginner players (provided you don't play offline) it's enough to have a vague idea of what score you'll get based off han. Just be aware that situations will eventually crop up where you'll need to know fu in the case of a comeback win or something.

The idea of transparent tiles was, but likely only as a novelty/for beginners, and it was still pretty rare.

The 3/4 transparent style seems to have literally been invented by Fukumoto, unless he took the idea from some really obscure source that noone's found yet.

Yeah, they had a tournament in the netherlands using improv washizu tables. No gloves though, instead a 2s rule on grabbing a tile or it'd be chonbo or something.

I think those guys were involved in organizing it or participated.

East 1: Why did you hang on to that chun and discarded it live, dumbass?
>>
>>15182014
>>15179177
Yeah, everything after that was unfortunate, but the chun was completely your own fault. When discarding at the start of a round, for efficiency, you should normally discard: no value wind>isolated terminals>yakuhai honors>isolated simples (as a rule of thumb, exceptions such as discarded pairs of yakuhai make them less valuable). You correctly played discarded the hatsu for 3m but if you were consistent you should have then discarded the chun for 7p, not 3m.

It's pretty easy to feel that tile manipulation occurs if you've played there for a while. Lots of ippatsu, rinshan, kan dora 4, fast and big hands. People going on long winning streaks. Not to say these things don't happen in normal mahjong either but in MJ they are much more common.

I'm not the only one who thinks so. MJ has gotten blasted on review sites by the japanese who also feel the system is rigged. I'm sure there's a number of people who have said the same thing about tenhou, since it has a paid version, but it's much easier to believe that MJ is, both through personal experience and through business models. Naturally, I don't have any hard evidence. If such a thing existed then they'd have gone out of business by now.

However, the difference between Tenhou and MJ as someone who has extensively played both is night and day. It doesn't help that MJ does not release seed data in their replays, meaning you can't see the wall's entirety. It leads credence to the idea that tile dealing in MJ is non-standard and thus more easily manipulated. The lack of hanchan, tenpai renchan, and so on also makes one think that they are trying to hide suspicious things behind a shorter number of games.

Funny enough I memorized it while being lazy. I decided to make a mahjong calculator because I didn't want to learn it.

Coincidentally while making the program I memorized it and learned the formulas because I had to constantly expose myself to it to make sure everything was right. So I didn't finish because it was mostly useless.

tl;dr: Just keep exposing yourself to it, focus on getting certain yakus until it's just automatic.

Yes. You're also not allowed to call tiles.

IIRC Tenhou has that feature, but I forget how to make that. Also there's old tool that makes it from your Tenhou save game, but that was years ago.
>>15194442
Riichi only is possible.
You can have ready hand, but without any yaku, you can only win either by declaring riichi or drawing the winning tile yourself (menzen tsumo). You can also do both.
