So how actually respected/popular is she in Japan? I asked several of my Japanese friends and theyve given me widely different answers - some say she's their version of Mariah Carey (whatever that means), while others say she's a has-been who makes some good vidya game/anime/soap theme songs.
literally who

most Japanese dont care about music so it doesnt matter

Who knows about popularity among the masses.
Did her gaijin husband ruin her?

>Tfw lung cancer will take yet another talented vocalist.
Why is this allowed

>others say she's a has-been who makes some good vidya game/anime/soap theme songs
Probably closer to the truth. Anison or vidya song is basically the kiss of death for your mainstream.
The last good album she made is Heart Station. Consider it's been 8 years since she made a good album. Now she's on the wrong side of 30 and most of her songs sound dated with early 2000's pop production.

Really?
I thought often Anison / Vidya songs help provide a platform for mainstream success.

She didn't even release a new full album yet. The closest thing is the EP on her greatest hits album.
Is it wrong that I prefer KPop to Jpop? I mean, the former sounds catchier and more "real" if you know what I mean. The idol shit in Japan feels forced.

I don't know, at least she seems happy with him. Certainly wasn't the case with her first husband.
vocals 7/10
music 5/10
way better than Perfume, which are:
vocals 2/10
music 4/10
At least she has milf points now

>Now she's on the wrong side of 30
But she's only 33.
most recent release

Was she ever good anyway? All I've heard from her some years was some painfully mushy stuff from the Kingdom Hearts series.
>>15152538
I always thought her mother dying before this relationship had something to do with it.
>>15152607
Seems generic.
>>15152608
She was hugely commercially successful if thats what your asking.
>>15152519
Jpop atleast historically releases better material. You can argue Japan's 80s idol golden age is the idol age to beat rather than the Hallyu Wave.
Wasn't she like the biggest artist in Japan in the early/mid 2000s? Dunno about now tho, been many years since she did anything
>>15155027
That would be Ayumi Hamasaki, the queen of early 2000
>>15152519
It's just as forced in k-pop.
>>15152548
But that's what "wrong side of X" means. It doesn't matter if she's 3 years over or 9. She's still on the wrong side of it.

So fake
>>15152545
>way better than Perfume
how about I kick your ass
>>15143795
she's past her prime
she was never a particularly great live singer anyways
>>15166774
Perfume is just another Nakata product
>>15173897
>she was never a particularly great live singer anyways
Yeah but that literally means nothing nowadays with everything being autotuned.
>>15152545
shit tastes are to be expected from such an asshole
>>15152519
You can also apply "forced" term for K-pop or "fabricated" would be more fitting
>>15166774
Perfume has not hit their 30s and yet they're still more washed up
the song has been in the top 5 every day since its release, she's still popular.
I think she peaked a little early, I think during her Automatic days, which I still love. Some great music videos in the early 2000's too.
After that she was kind of there with the occasional hit until about 2007/8. She doesn't even seem serious about a comeback, she's just kind of there.
