It's definitely dead, there's no way CFM would do a Japan tour and a North America tour in the same if there wasn't such a demand.
Vocaloid is dead, so so dead. Look at all the money pouring in from Miku nendoroids and figures. Look at all the original songs still being uploaded to NND/Youtube/Soundcloud. Look at all the fanart on Pixiv and DA.
