I'm trying to use the ElonaCustom custom pet AI feature for a ranged pet. What I used was

>if distance <2, move away
>if distance >7, move forward
>if distance <=7, fire gun

I keep getting an error message ("your pet doesn't know how to respond to the current situation"). Am I missing something? Do the commands not prioritize by order?
>>
>>14978797
Pet gets stuck if there is no direct line of sight to the target. Your ai should work fine otherwise.
>>
>>14978820

Ah, gotcha. Seems obvious in hindsight. Probably was just at an awkward angle where it couldn't find a 2-7 distance range to the target due to corners and walls.

By the way, what affects the number of "currently available slots" in the AI window?
>>
>>14978825
It depends on lesser of your or your pet's learning stat.
>>
Any particular flavour of damage spells I should focus on as being universally useful against (almost) all mob types? I'm presuming just magic, but also considering nether for the HP stealing (particularly with area blast attacks).

Uhh, you know, if you want wishes, a far easier method might be to run around Puppy Cave. Fountains have a chance of spawning each floor, and at high levels you can probably search multiple floors a minute.

Depending on how easily it is for you to get scrolls of wonder, Puppy Cave might be a faster alternative.
>>
>>14979747
Not so fast, munchkin!

>1%+karma bonus (2) chance of getting wish by drinking from well

>The more consecutive fountain wishes one obtains the higher the chance the "You feel as a stroke of good fortune passes by" message will appear at the trigger, instead of the wish prompt. The chance of getting a wish is 1/(previous fountain wish prompts+1). The fountain wish prompt counter decreases by 1 every year of the in-game calendar, to a minimum value of zero. Example: two fountain wish prompts in the first year gives you a counter of 2, meaning only a 1/(2+1) or 1 in 3 chance of getting a wish at the next trigger, with a 2 in 3 chance of the 'stroke of fortune' message. Wait a year without receiving any additional fountain wishes and and the chance of a wish improves to 1 in 2; another year and it is 1 in 1, or 100% chance of a wish prompt.

>3/100
>3/200
>3/300
>3/400
>...

but yes, it is much faster than trying to cast at 1%.

A possibly more efficient method would be to fill one of the floors of your house with toilets. Steal toilets at every opportunity, and over time you could accumulate 300 or more toilets, all ready for drinking.

The ability to buff Zombies directly, maybe? In some form greater than just strengthen?Another thing I'd like to see is Zombies being able to be used as buffs or something based on what they actually are.. Like base zombies could be used as secondary HP bars Whereas fusing a D-EBD to the PC would grant them +PV or something. Then Dolls would add resistances. I don't know. It's just something that's been floating around in my head.

Also maybe making NPCs affected by god worship based on their faith skill/will/your faith. E.g a pet with ~300 Faith would get a large speed boost when worshiping Lulwy. Same for ALL other NPCs. Also maybe making them affected by Etherwind. If possible this could be made into a different game difficulty but I wouldn't mind if it was made a part of advancing.

If you just want the 1.56 changelog thus far:

[Changes and additions]
- Added 6 high-level members to the Shell race. Added 1 evolution pattern.
- Doubled the effect of the passive ability from worshipping Mani.
The ability from Opatos has been made to affect more than physical damage.
Yacatect's ability will now also increase the drop rate of regular items.
Speed increase and speed cap for worshipping Lulwy also increased.
20% of max health added to formula for Prayer of Jure, but only for the player.
- Made it so that Mist of Silence effect will not show up even when out of sight.

- Added 2 special actions. Made the detection-type feats available through purchase instead.

- Changed stamina recovery from 2 sp/10 turns to 2 sp/4 turns.
- Made stamina regeneration from worshipping Kumiromi recover 1 sp/2 turns.

- Changed mana battery calculation. Spells levels won't be 0, increased the amount of spell stock gained, and made it display what stock was gained or if mana was recovered.

- Changed harpy race's second leg slot to a back slot.
- When the sum of "chance of extra ranged/melee attack" enchants and the bonus from Dual Wield skill reaches a certain amount, extra attacks become guaranteed. Changed it to make the extra attacks somewhat random.

- Added a sound effect that plays when entering a floor with a Big Daddy in it
- Prevented empty items from showing up in the list of things to (o)pen. You can now open containers by spamming the shortcut key assigned to them.

- Added two gaze-type special actions. Added a feat that will confer one of them.
- Modified medusa, euryale, stheno, and cockatrice's AIs. Only the newly-generated NPCs will experience this change.

- Added gauge attacks that trigger with gaze-type attacks other than Eye of brainwashing.

[Fixes]
- Fixed some descriptions.

- Fixed Shining Wave having a water sound effect.

- Fixed message displayed when stepping on essential oil and gasoline puddles. Gasoline puddles generated in a previous version will display as and act like essential oil though.

- Fixed alchemy rain not triggering a flag and causing bugged exp gain.
- Made a sub quest added in 1.55 recognize when the year changes.
NB: Sophia's quest.

- Made duel opponents not capturable with monster balls.
- Made maximum HP/MP not overflow.
- Fixed critical hit damage multiplier when unarmed not going above 1.
- Extra attacks should proc less the more arms the character has - the modifier wasn't working, and it's fixed now.
- Fixed the bonus skill selected during character creation disappearing if the game is closed without saving right after the opening scene. Can't guarantee that it'll work properly if you quit before the dialogue in the beginning though.

>>

>>14980550

>Like base zombies could be used as secondary HP bars Whereas fusing a D-EBD to the PC would grant them +PV or something.

This would be based on /how/ many zombies were fused as well as skill level. E.g if you had six zombies of the cat type, fusing them would grant up to +60 speed for as long as they were fused to the player. This would be based on a counter of ten which would grow by one for each 100 skill levels in both Anatomy and Alchemy.

e.g if your skill levels are 80 and 60, respectively you wouldn't be able to fuse any zombies into the player. This would have to come with some weaknesses but do you see where I'm trying to go with this? Do you see any immediate issues with it?

I'd also like to see greater penalties for apostasy. It's not enough that we get the inconvenient debuff, I feel like it should be directly proportional to how much favor you accrued with the previous god. If I was Mani and my high priest defected to Lulwy, I'd be more than just tiffed. I'd want to doom their and their pet's entire inventories and 4DM for starters. You know how Itzpalt and Kumiromi mention god wars and shit? I was also thinking that NPCs should get temporary buffs based on both their and your faith skills. Like if it spotted you, was a worshipper of Lulwy and you worshiped Mani it would recieve a massive speed and stat buff based on both it and your faith that goes on top of everything else. Because in the lore Mani is Lulwy's enemy and there is no reason why she should not use her minions to destroy his.

Same thing for Karma. It needs to be fleshed out.
>>
>>14980566
> fusing them
He did say something about fusing zombies. (Albeit to each other and not to the player.)

>greater penalties for apostasy
That just seems like a pain in the ass.

> doom their and their pet's inventories
So leave the pets at home and have a blessed scroll of uncurse on the ground? Or even better - get stark naked at truce grounds and dump everything on the ground before converting.

Maybe Noa intended to do more with gods, seeing as how Ehekatl says something about the first Ehekatl. Maybe it could tie in with the main quest at the very end. Maybe that's what Ano would do, maybe not. Actually, maybe Ano is heading in that direction, what with the demi-god NPC sub quests.

Do all the gods hate each other? As you've pointed out, Mani and Lulwy are probably not on good terms and Itzpalt's goals probably puts him at odds with everyone. The other gods I'm not sure where they stand. I can't imagine Ehekatl being outright angry with the other gods. Jure seems like a recently ascended god as she's constantly questioning whether she's fit for the job so I don't see her having enough time to cultivate hatred for the other gods. Ditto for Yacatect. Newly ascended and cares more about money and fortune in general than anything else. Although, now that I think about it, a god of fortune might one day come to see a god of luck as a potential rival for believers. Kumiromi is a strange one. Don't know what's going on with him. Seems peaceful but who knows. Might be a brutal war god once provoked due to that yandere side of him. Kumiromi is about farms and working the land and Optatos is supposedly the god of the earth as well so maybe there's a potential rivalry there. I can't get the image of Opatos bullying the hell out of Kumiromi out of my mind though. Anyone have any lore to set the record straight on any of this?
>>
>>14980483

Well, Elona custom added the ability to teach pets new skills, which boosted their strength considerably over vanilla. Previously you might have very fragile mobs that were balanced with powerful special abilities or spells, and very tought/strong mobs with bad special abilities.

Since you can teach pets any ability/spell now, you can just slap the most powerful abilities on the powerful ones, making them far more powerful than before.
>>
>>14980566
I'd laugh if you managed to get such a rapport with a god that they'd show up right before you if you tried to leave. Ehekatl would probably break out into tears and wailing(mewmew). Kumiromi would "reap" you and Lulwy literally puts you in a cage. Jure would have a complete tsundere meltdown.
>>
>>14980731
That's custom's problem, then.
>>
Do maps swap/move NPCs during special events, or are they just duplicate copies?

For example, if I see unique NPCs in Party Time! quests, will they remember it and hate me for it after the quest is over?

Or if I blow up Noyel during the festival, will this damage persist afterwards, or is the map simply swapped out for normal Noyel after the festival ends? (And if maps are swapped, does any damage done during one Jure Festival remain during the next one?)
>>
>>14980750
>if I see unique NPCs in Party Time! quests,

* Meant to type, "if I KILL unique NPCs in Party Time! quests"
>>
>>14980761
For Party Time quests, yes, they are just copies with random equipment, some are always generated with some items (Like Bow of Vindere or the Ether Dagger)

Kill NPCs in Party Time quests only hurts your Karma (And fame if the party fails)

P.S. Kill Sisters in the harder Party Time quests, they give AP and their corpse gives some mind resistance

My general checklist for wishes
- seven league boots
- happy bed
- twin speed rings
- muromi (extra feats)
- potions of evolution (make sure you have a piece of anti-mutation gear to lock in the good mutations, otherwise you'll just lose them later)

Then come the lower priority things you pick depending on your current needs
- material kits (you can get these swapped to different materials at the dwarf workshop, even if you get a crappy one)
- new skills (if you're too lazy to bust into guilds)
- kagami mochi (+2 luck)
>>
>>14980911
Can't wish for hearts.

>>14980907

Still haven't answered the question about sox. Why did you want sox?

Speed rings are useless by late-early game, you only need one SLB and why are you wishing for evos? Like wtf just invest in your vendors. It's not like the mutations are that valuable or useful. Miromis are useful though.
>>
>>14980933
I already got all positive mutations from potions of evolution from my 800 scroll of wonder quest

If I can't wish for a God Heart, I'm probably just gonna wish for a random artifact.

I'd go either Miromi for the feats, or scroll of flying (being able to carry a grand piano, food processor, or happy bed everywhere is nice), otherwise kamgami mochi for the luck.

That's literally the stupidest wish I've seen anyone post in an Elona thread on /jp/ since we first learned about the game. Why would you do that?
I've seen in game chat about stupider ones though.

Being level 60 without a Rank 1 house is straight up embarrassing though. Since getting all the Deities in your house is a good goal, especially with the bonus faith items you need to talk to them for. But I think that since you wished for an axe at such a level, you may just be straight up retarded. You could easily make a good axe all yourself by waiting for a decent artifact axe, changing the material, and artifact fusion. Wishing for one is straight up idiotic.

You could've got another feat, the new ones are going to have more bonus special actions. Or an Astral Pen (although they are easy to get through the main quest and the Witch near Palmia's quests), or even flying scrolls (good for light armor users)
>>
>>14980881
I'd start using my wishes for scrolls of attribute and flying if you aren't in need of much of anything else. The scrolls of attribute is for artifact fusion and flying scrolls will be useful if you get something too heavy or if you have any future plans of actually wielding an inner god weapon. Like the other anon said, miromi is good if you don't have most if not all the feats.

>>14980897
Not that anon but sox can be traded in for faith scrolls from the sox thief in the space shuttle looking area of lost Irva or better yet, traded to Urcaguary to complete her quest and be rewarded the Grandel and a jewel tear of god. If you continue to do sox turn in to her you can get additional jewel tear of gods which are ingredients for artifact fusion. I would imagine additional magic damage to be a good one.

Goblin predator, and I'm using the Lucky Dagger with the Shield Tonfa as an offhand. I wanted to dual-wield initially but the penalty to spellcasting from medium armor + dual-wield was too much. I should be higher level but one of my artifact rings has been constantly leeching my EXP and I've yet to find a better one without drawbacks.

I'm jelly.

Here's mine. I've been playing Elona on and off the last few years (with months/years breaks in between picking it up), but I end up forgetting most of what I learned in between the breaks. So I'm half-newbie, half-veteran.

Fair warning, the stats are pretty inflated because it's a gene file incarnation of one of my older games. It inherited lots of artefact gear and attribute-boosting consumables (mostly for speed and luck), if the massive speed didn't tip you off to that already.

The only major downside is that playing with a very high speed character sends your potentials into the crapper due to how relatively few sleeps compared to dungeons cleared. It's extremely rare my potential gets above "Bad" for attributes.

Not going to argue that what elona custom added was powerful but I don't consider it op. Especially since most of the stuff that you can teach your pet to do you can do yourself but even with all these bag of tricks available people still die. On the topic of teaching stuff to your pet, there are certain things you can't teach your pet such as wish, meteor, etc. Also, in regards to teaching pets spells, it may seem powerful but you have to be diligent in raising the casting skill to keep their spells relevant. This takes a lot of time and work and If you don't put in the work, then eventually no matter what you teach your pet, it will eventually become useless as it's not scaling enough to meet your needs. Also, certain special actions have their own skills and attributes which they scale off of. All in all, the ability to have your pet learn stuff and use it is only as powerful as the work you put into it.

Ok, here's why I think custom is ridiculously OP:

1. They can learn buff spells. All of them.

2. They will use buff spells only when appropriate. And when appropriate, they will use it 100% of the time. And have you seen that pet that buffed itself with 2000 casting skill? Holy veil on all pets is crazy powerful too.

3. They will buff you when appropriate, 100% of the time.

4. Sure, you have to keep their casting skill up. But you can set their AI to cast a lot of spells, and that makes their casting skill skyrocket. It's not like pet skill potential is difficult to keep up at all, and pets levels skills 4 times as fast. Heck, they have skills coming out of their wazoo just because of traveling.

5. They can and will execute the attack move you tell them to, 100% of the time. The problem with learning the tactical attack moveset from Leold is that shadow step isn't used very often. Here, you can have your pet use it. All. The. Time. Your melee pet would be everywhere.

6. They can heal themselves, and will do it 100% of the time. For regular e+ pets, most pets can't heal themselves, and will rely on you or a pet with tactical heal or something silly like a nurse. And healing rain from tactical heal is random. Aaaand they only use a lousy Heal Critical. In Custom? Cure of Jua if you want. On every single pet. And you can set it to something like 75% health.

7. You can debuff the enemy, 100% of the time. And not just with the regular debuff spells. You can make it chain element scar -> bubble storm -> thunder vortex.

8. You save on AP. Crystal spear from Leold? Pfft. Change their AI? Don't need that.

9. Fuck, it's even better than evolving your exile. Who needs eclipse when you can have magic storm? Or how about shadow step -> magic storm?

It's like you're arguing that an instant-win button isn't OP because you have to reach for it and press it. The additional effort that you have to put in is negligible compared to what you would've put in anyway in regular E+, and the returns are astronomical.
>>
Should my pets and I be focused on light, medium, or heavy armor? I know each skill set has its own set of associated abilities. But I haven't played long enough to determine which I should be focused on for myself and my pets.
>>
>>14984952
For you pets - heavy.

For you - depends on how much you rely on magic. If you mainly attack with spells, then light. But if you are a warmage and you want that additional damage from magic equip, you might want medium. Melee and ranged only - heavy.

That said, most people do rely on buff and healing spells even if they're a melee/ranged character, and flying scrolls aren't that hard to come by later on, so I prefer going with light armor myself.
>>
>>14985003
Why heavy? Is it just a matter of the heaviest armour sets usually pushing you into heavy equipment weight, or does intentionally being in the heavy category confer special bonuses?

And does the same hold true in Elona custom? (where all pets can spellcast). Does the spellcasting ability eventually override the heavy armour spellcasting penalty, if your skill is high enough?
>>
>>14985013
Heavy stuff has more PV. Pets will always have 95% cast rate, regardless of armour weight. 100% if they're warmage. Precious armor (like the war suit) is light and has good PV, but you may want those for yourself. Resists are important in E+, but some PV doesn't hurt either. You could build your pet around DV instead of PV, but... I'm not sure how well that would work.

No, casting skill level will not be able to overcome armor weight, shield, or dual wield penalty. Warmage will alleviate the penalty by 5%, but it will still never be 100% for the player.
>>
>>14984860
Player can pre-buff, while pets will start buffing only when the actual combat begins. By the time they will get ready you should already finish off the boss.
Healing? Yes, it's good, not super-regene tier tho.
And it's not like Leold already has Variable storm and crystall spear.

Here is my preliminary proposal. I know it's a bit OP but I can't think of any adequate weaknesses just yet. Also need some help thinking of a suitable mummy bonus.
The player should be able to fuse zombies into their character for buffs based on the type and maybe level of the zombie. I was thinking that the maximum number of zombies that should be fusable could be capped at 10. Players would only be able to start fusing a single zombie once both their Alchemy and Anatomy skill levels reached 100. For every hundred levels in both skills, for example when both Alchemy and Anatomy were at 200, they'd gain another slot with which they could fuse a zombie. Once both skills hit level 1000 and they were able to fuse all ten creatures, I was thinking then that for every ten skill levels above 1000 that the effects of the fusion would be increased. Here are my preliminary thoughts on how the system would work:

Cat zombies would offer at the base:
+10 Speed
+15 Per
+15 Dex
+15 Evasion
per cat fusioned. In other words, if you had ten cats fused to the player they would gain +100 speed, +150PER,+150DEX and +150 to Evasion. I was thinking also that at skill levels 1100, 1200, 1300 etc, the cats would offer +20 to PER and DEX as well as +15 to Speed and so on.

The base Zombies which are just one step up above cats I feel should offer a secondary HP bar which would have HP based on how many zombies are fused to it as well as the Zombie and player's Con stat. Each Zombie would add 100 + (Their CON + Player character's CON). The amount of HP would be multiplied by the number of Zombies. i.e if you fused ten zombies you'd get an HP bar with 1000 + ((Zombie CON*10) + Player CON).
Each 100 skill levels past 1000 in both Alchemy and Anatomy would add +50 to the HP bar.

Skeleton Warriors I think would add:

+10 to Tactics per Warrior
+15 Strength per Warrior
+15 CON per Warrior
Pretty straightforward, I think? Ten Warriors would add +100 to Tactics, + 150 to Strength and +150 to CON. Each hundred skill levels above 1000 would make the bonuses be increased by 5 (e.g 15 Tactics per Warrior at skill levels 1100 in both Alchemy and Anatomy).

Should I cut this up into multiple posts or just make a pastebin?
>>
>>14985064
Lich would add:
+10 to Casting per Lich
+10 to Control Magic
+15 to MAG per Lich
+15 to LER per Lich.
It would scale much the same was as the Cats and Warriors.

Necro Dolls would give:
+50 to MP per doll
-5% MP cost for spells per Doll.
Each time you were attacked the enemy has a chance of getting debuffed with any of the following:
Bleed, Poison, Element Scar, Nightmare, Confusion, Blind, Rage, Wet, Oily, Mist of Silence and Mist of frailness.
Every hundred levels above 1000, the enemy's chance of getting debuffed would increase.

Dragon Zombie would add:
Reduce SP cost of breath attacks by half
+50 PV per Dragon Zombie
Increase power of MP breath by 1% per Dragon.
Every hundred skill levels past 1000 would add +1% power of MP breath and +50 PV.

Dead Eyes Blood Dragon:
+30 STR per D-EBD
+5% increase to power of breath attacks per Dragon

Every hundred skill levels above 1000 in both Anatomy and Alchemy would add +10 STR and +1% to breath attack power.

Originally I had it so that the effects would increase every ten levels above 1000 but that still makes the bonuses scale ridiculously.

Feedback: I'm no dev and just saying what I think. Also understand the dev Ano has his own view of how necromancy should work, so don't expect any implementation from him.

The first major issue is the skill levels required for fusing. Elona operates on exponential growth curves, not additive, so anyone having both alchemy and anatomy at 1000 is unlikely if not impossible(?). Resident postgame player Kai will have to fill us in on his skill levels after 800 hours of play, but understand that only 0.01% of players are ever going to reach 10 zombies under your system. (My own 400 hour character played leisurely is at 100 anatomy, 130 alchemy). Conceivably more viable would be 1 added zombie per 50 levels in alchemy and anatomy. Also maybe lower the cap to 5 zombies, since most won't be achieving high levels of alchemy+anatomy.

Second: Are these in addition to the zombies you can already have out through coffins of necromancy, or do these take up 10 of the zombie slots if maxed out? Can I use 15 pets in addition to 10 zombies on my body, provided I have the skill levels?

Now: To my eye, the stat bonuses aren't a huge deal balance-wise because they're accrued gradually - they'd basically have a similar effect to the god stat bonuses, but scaling further into the late game.

Issues with those bonuses: first, zombie HP bonuses aren't quite in line with the HP formula as it is: Maximum HP = 5 + Life*(Constitution + CharacterLevel (Constitution * 2 + Strength + Will) / 20) / 100. It's not clear how the added zombies would be "calculated" in this formula. What is the end goal for HP increase? An exponential increase? Additive? How much HP should I be gaining if I currently have 1000? 10000? 100000?

The necro dolls, similar issue. Are we talking 50 MP flat (totally useless) or 50 mana (gamebreakingly good for a spellcaster)? The MP calculation is (Magic * 2 + Will + Learning) * Level / 20 + Magic) * Mana / 100 . Where does +50 MP fit into this? Maybe eliminate it entirely in favor of the MP cost reduction, although I'm sure that would bring about some goofiness with the magic capacity skill. It's also not clear what the debuffs are there for besides coolness - maybe limit them to bleed, poison, blind, rage, and confusion.

Dragon zombies - someone will have to fill me in on the power of breath attacks and 500-plus PV scaling. To the uninformed like myself, the PV looks nice but not as nice as bonus HP or MP, while the breath bonus looks useless if the breath skills themselves are useless to begin with.

Debd: Same as dragon zombie. Appears to be outclassed by the warrior except for users of breath attacks.

Overall, lots of moving parts but the machine isn't yet solid. Balancing each zombie type with another appears just as tricky as balancing necromancy with the overall game.

I was thinking here that they could add onto the player's MP. I think it would need to scale somehow based on both the player's MAG & their MAG. The debuffs are there so that the bonuses kind of reflect the monster you're fused to. Like, the whole purposes of the dolls are debuffs. Like that's the whole reason you'd summon them. Being melee creatures I thought it would be interesting as well if melee players got to punish creatures in return when they got attacked.

You know how when you ride a creature you get an extra HP bar to watch over? The idea was to fusion that bar with the AP feat which absorbs damage based on your current MP. Basically, the zombies are supposed to act as kind of a souped up meat-shield.
>>
>>14986057
I've never read/watched it either, but to very roughly paraphrase the article I just read,

She was the sole successor to the throne and was kinda bratty due to the pressure it put on her. She then changed for the better when she met Guin, the leopard dude. And then she got kidnapped by someone and was raped and tortured. She remained broken after that and was never the same again.

She would later verbally abuse Guin and then go to have sex with people in the town, eventually siring children with god-knows-who.

Might not be accurate because I skimmed it, but you get the idea.

Also, because of the glacial pace at which the author worked in his later years, the series was never finished.

As I mentioned with the dolls I felt like the bonuses the player receives should kind of be based on the monster they're fused to. I mean, really, dragon breath is their calling card. I feel like there's a lot that can be done with breath but I wasn't sure where to draw the line wrt the increases to breath power so I went a bit conservative.

I also wasn't sure where to go wrt the DE-BDs. If I gave them HP then they'd kind of trample the feet of the Zombies, not to mention they'd do it far worse than them. Maybe a speed bonus would be good but I'm not sure how that could be scaled well.

>What is the end goal for HP increase? An exponential increase? Additive? How much HP should I be gaining if I currently have 1000? 10000? 100000?

If your HP is 1000 then their's could be around 1500 - 2000. The thing is, as I said, they're supposed to be meat shields, supplements. Like that's their whole purpose.

I don't understand. A lot of what you list as making a pet OP a player can do and do it better if the spells technical page on the wiki is anything to go by. Also the player is a whole lot smarter than a pet. Yet, is there any player that has claimed they're OP and wanted a nerf to themselves and others? Considering later on that a bunch of enemies can silence you and drop every hex on you imaginable you'll be thankful that you do have your buffs and holy veils to even up the fight for both you and your pets. I'm wondering where each of you guys are at to make you think your pets are op. Are you guys challenging yourself enough? Unless you guys are doing like lv 600 or more dungeons or deep levels of the void I'm not sure whether to believe you or not. That guy Kai says he's having trouble with the void and he has some really strong pets.
>>

> I'm wondering where each of you guys are at to make you think your pets are op. Are you guys challenging yourself enough?

Right off the bat: I'm against any nerfs to pets. However, I'm level sixty-four and with my pets I can regularly dive down to DL:190. The only reason I don't is so that I still have easy dungeons to farm.

Custom AI is OP, that's why I'm not using it. I also don't care if it gets nerfed or not, because I'm not using it. I'm just responding to the claim that it's not OP, because it is.

> you'll be thankful that you do have your buffs and holy veils to even up the fight
Exactly. In regular E+, that is not a luxury you have. It is too much of a game-changer. But like Overdose mode, I don't care if someone uses it.

>Are you guys challenging yourself enough?
I don't. I play well below the limits of my character. But your point is that even with the custom AI and buffed up pets the player will eventually meet his limit in the void, right? My point is that this limit comes significantly sooner for pets without that AI. And I know my pets would benefit a lot from Shadow Step and buff spell spamming.

>a player can do and do it better
Sure, if you have unlimited spell stock, no need to level individual spells, and gained skills/attributes several times faster than others.
>>
>>14986525
>Sure, if you have unlimited spell stock, no need to level individual spells, and gained skills/attributes several times faster than others.

Not that anon but I like to think that since they don't have to worry about spell stock that's why their spells are inferior to the players. Also, getting virtually unlimited stock for buff spells and many other spells for the player is not a hard thing to do due to book reservation from the mage guild. The rate of gain is built right into Elona+ and is not a custom thing but I'm just putting that out there not for you, as I'm sure you already knew that, but for others who don't know.

For the rate of skill gains, I would like to think the gains are a counterbalance to the fact that pets don't gain bonus skill points when they level. So what they're left with is either to grind out the skills themselves, AP, or the traveling skill. The player one ups the pet because he can get bonus points from leveling and has access to everything the pet has in leveling skill. As for attributes gain, it's absolutely equal to the player until you add herbs into the equation. It's up to the player if they want to take advantage of that but all I'll say about that is let your pet grow too strong that it leaves you in the dust, you'll pay for it later in awakened dungeons and the void. The usage of gold to spend on trainers in town for potentials is a much better system than what we had earlier.

Imagine a world where the only way to have raised attribute potentials were from potions of potential and the only way of raising skills was through the dojo and it's absolutely insane prices and small gains it provided, then imagine before that we didn't even have that.
>>
>>14986704
I'm just directly answering this:
> A lot of what you list as making a pet OP a player can do and do it better

I know that's not his point, and that he was saying that custom pet AI or no pet AI, the player is better in every way anyway, so pet AI is not OP.

And I'm not complaining about E+'s pet system. Though looking back, training is a lot more lenient than it was under vanilla's system. There was no cap on training cost and it increased with levels. Was the increase 500 gp per level or something? Here, it's a fraction if INI + AP, further reduced by charisma, AND capped.

Why is Bakuretsu so good? Does it scale with your grenade? how is it calculated?

I'll throw my two cents in here, for what its worth.

I do think the Custom AI is - or rather has the potential to be - unbalanced. There are a few things I did to attempt to keep it from being too absurd (like the energy system), but I know it's still too much.

Honestly it was a bit of a personal feature - I love customizeable AI and wanted to see it in Elona. I've already done the natural grind to the inner gods before, so I wasn't too concerned about how it affected my playthrough.

In the future, I plan on doing some things to make certain enemies more difficult (gods, inner gods, story bosses), as well as add some customizable difficulty settings (skill/attribute/base exp gain rates, enemy level/attribute/skill multipliers, etc.) that will hopefully allow you tweak things to a point where you feel the game is more challenging even if using Custom AI.

I'd actually love being able to enable spell levels on pets, but I don't know how much work it would be yet.

I'm worried that first considerably boosting pet power, and then further boosting difficulty to offset this, may inevitably be shifting the entire focus of the late game: away from an adventure RPG, to a real-time strategy game.

I can't speak for others, but by reducing the player's share of the killing power and handing it off to the pets, it feels like pets will be less of a beneficial asset and more of a vital necessity to beat the game.

I think the easiest way to retain balance is to offer some sort of offset for custom pets. Instead of a fixed party size based on charisma, introduce a point system. Each custom pet (with taught spells and custom AI) would take up, let's say, 4 points. Non-custom pets take up 2 points.

On top of this, these points can also be used for boosting feats. This would allow players to still function with an elite cadre of say 2-3 pets (with the leftover points being spent on abilities/feats that boost party performance), rather than forcing them to deploy a small army ot maximize firepower. Maybe even a handful of stronger feats for purely solo, petless players.

Actually, you may not even need a point system for that bit. Just have a set of feats that trigger based on the number of pets out similar to the Kokou feat. Like:

>+100% speed, +50% damage to self if no pets are on map.
>+50% speed, +25% damage to entire party if one pets is on map.
>+33% speed, +17% damage to entire party if two pets are on map.

or something like that.
>>

To be honest, I'm not so sure that the first part of your comment really applies.

Like anything I add to Custom, any difficulty changes would be toggleable - ignore them if you want, whatever. But I see a common complaint is that pets grow too fast compared to the player. But what if there was a way to lower it if you think that's true? Or even raise it if you feel like overdose isn't enough (lol).

My point being simply that these wouldn't affect the base difficulty unless you chose to tweak them yourself - if you want the vanilla E+ experience, with no new AI, it would always be there.

Unfortunately, I can't touch feats until Ano is finished with E+ or else I risk breaking compatability. The most I could do there is implement a pseudo-feat system that is seperate from normal feats.

>>14988001
I'm fine with optional tweaks to lower how fast pets grow but I don't think a tweak for raising is all that necessary.

I don't either, but it wouldn't be seperate. It would literally use the same field. Kind of like how the "filter by potential" tweak is now, where you can adjust in multiplies of 10. But with this kind of thing, it would be in multiples of 0.5 or so.

Could restrict it from going higher based on difficulty perhaps. Allow only in overdose maybe.

Ah, it appears that is correct.

Exactly what I thought too. But I'm sitting at 91% + 25d11, so a full pierce would still be 25 to 275 extra damage on a barely penetrating hit.

Makes me wish luck was a bit more useful in the game overall... too many outcomes completely ignore luck, or have no statistically noticeable difference unless you get that +777 luck event. In either case, it makes natural luck almost pointless.
>>
>>14991930
Probably the single most attractive part of gene files is the ability to inherit gear. That saves your new character the trouble of spending wishes on happy beds, seven league boots, speed rings, and vindale cloaks, scrolls of gain attribute, potions of evolution, speed upper, etc. It effectively resets your wish count to zero, making getting a wish far more likely.

I have 50 medals, is the Shield Tonfa worth it for an unarmed character or should I get something else?
>>
>>14996598
I always go sage helm -> rod of domination -> shield tonfa

Rod of domdom is for a bell and a silver cat.
>>
>>14996598
I went for the shield Tonfa first; I also used extra medals for a Diablo. It's not hard to get by without the Sage Helm though, granted, it is annoying to get your stats nuked by doom potion chuckers. They're very rare though, so....
>>
>>14996598
Shield Tonfa is a high priority if you're a caster, because it doesn't qualify as either a shield or a second weapon, meaning you won't suffer spellcasting dual-wield or shield-using penalties.

>>14996750
If you use the knockout ability, you don't necessarily need rod of domination. Better to save the medals, in my opinion. Particularly since bells tend to scale horribly (ultimate death machines early on, but instantly die to mobs in the 40+ range). Androids make better gunners in the long run.
>>
>>14996906
Get the helm next. "See invisible" is pretty rare as a random attribute, so you may have to go tens of levels getting your ass kicked by pumpkins and stalkers if you don't buy it.

All it takes is one unlucky confusion to send you into a trap or cause a spell backfire, or an inopportune blinding during a big melee to get you killed. A few medals is worth it to avoid surprise deaths like that.

>>
So let me pitch this and see if the community would have any interest.

The AI in Elona is pretty dumb.
Comically so. I've already introduced customizable AI for pets to help with that. But now there's a gulf between pets and enemies.

I've mentioned before that I want to add customized AI for story bosses and gods to make them more challenging. But it got me thinking...
I could have enemy AI softcoded and read entirely from files. Thing is, there's no way I can write better AI for all 800+ NPCs.

So here is the deal. I can softcode it so that the community can make their own AI scripts for any Npc, similar to the new pet AI (but scripted outside the game). But the community would have to make their own scripts for each Npc. Would anyone care for this, or would I be wasting my time?
>>
>>14999705
I want to fight a Zeome powerful enough to anihilate my team. I hated fighting Uzyrassil or whatever his name is but that was because he forced me to grind a bit. Arma was fun and challenging purely because of her stats when I first encountered her; otherwise she was ridiculously dumb. I'd be down for smart bosses desu. How though would you make them less stupid? If an enemy with God-tier stats only had shadow step then, well...AI or no, they're not going to be ultra hard to beat.
>>
>>14999705
I'd say that it is a great idea for bosses and maybe important NPCs, but when every enemy becomes an optimal player things just get annoying.
>>
>>14999705
Someone with no intention to work on it or commit will probably chime in and tell you to go ahead, and a few dudes will echo him cuz why not.

I'm wondering if custom ai for mobs (not bosses) will really make them stronger.
Pets get really strong because they have a large amount of moves (skills, spells, melee, range etc) that usually synergize, and respond to every situation.

But for most of the mobs they have a really limited amount of actions available. Off the top of my head i only see the "waste turn" that really drag the mobs down but i don't see how to 100% remove that without making the ai roll like a square wheel.
I mean through AI how powerful can you make an orc or pumpkin ?

Maybe if the mobs could take into account player skills (like casting, marksman and tactics), attributes (speed, hp) or the terrain (break los, don't fight in corridors) that would make a significant enough difference but 1. i doubt this would not affect performances 2. it gives alot more work per mob

For bosses/unique npcs i think thats great tho
>>
>>14999904
>>14999940
>>14999959
Since this theoretical system would bypass the default AI, you wouldn't necessarily be restricted to just moves that the NPC knows. So there really wouldn't be a concern about enemies with God stats only knowing shadowstep.

Which is part of why this would need someone who actually cares and would put effort into it to make this worth doing. You'd need to actually consider what would be good ai (ranged NPCs keeping distance unless they are slower than their enemy) and what is simply dumb (giving putits meteor).

Technically, if I did do this, it could be utilized only for the purpose of bosses, while still being open for other NPCs if someone wanted to bother.

Thanks for the responses, by the way.

Is your character a slut? Having drunk sex with every adventurer you come across? Or you're in a pure monogamous relationship with your one pet?
>>
>>15000214

I'd recommend investing in quality over quantity. For example, many machine-type pets have a base of either 90% (cMetal) or 75% (cArmour) damage resist (before even basic PV is applied), making each one worth two or more generic pets. Especially since you can now teach abilities/spells to pets in ElonaCustom, meaning you can have a heavily armored pet that can cast the same spells as those fragile spellcasters.

If you want moe pets, as indicated by your love of roran, you can just reskin the better ones. You can put custom sprites in elona/user/graphic by naming them pic_02.bmp, pic_03.bmp, etc. (#2-16 for one tile sprites, #17+ for tall two-tile sprites).

Check the elona mods pastebin. I put together a zip of a hundred or two sprites you can use as pet sprites. Should be some you'd enjoy in there.

[Changes and additions]
- magistus, trismagistus, skull sword, and violent skull sword will display the skill level at which they were made.
- When the player successfully uses the special action Bewitch on friendly NPCs, money will be received. They will not give any more money if they are no longer interested, and you receive less than if you had used prostitution. It's low-risk and low-return; it takes only 1 turn, the NPCs do not need to be drunk, and there is no risk of Sickness. It's for playing as a beggar, or if you want money, or if you just want to siphon money off them but remain chaste.
- Characters that die to fire damage will no longer start a fire. Items on the ground will still burn without a magatama.

[Fixes]
- When NPCs duplicate rods with alchemy, they are no longer stacked in the player's inventory. Remaining charges on stacks of rods will also no longer increase.
- When summoned undead defeat an enemy, allies tagged to the player will now be able to receive AP (albeit a reduced amount) if they are eligible.

[In development]
- One new artifact and unique NPC.
- About four additional floors worth of main quest in Act III.

Gotcha, woulda been fun it legitimately used firearms to shoot things point blank when equipped in melee hands, kinda like some cuh-razy stylish bullet arts. Two dual pistols for maximum cuh-razy, pulling triggers with your index and pinky fingers.

Tho I dunno how that would even work, would you have to equip bullets for each firearm? Would it just all draw from the bullet you have equipped in ammo, making it impossible to melee in such a way with two different ranged weapons like that, like firearm and crossbow? Too much involved for something silly that'd only be for RP I suppose!
