>“KARATE” is incredibly charming. Instrumentally, it’s also heavy as hell. The song’s main riff is way low on the sonic spectrum, chugging away in a no-nonsense djent fashion. The chorus for “KARATE” is one of the catchiest pieces BabyMetal has crafted to date. Again, for fans and maybe even some naysayers, the track is simply undeniable.
>...But never mind that, is the song any good? Yes. Of course it is. And before you start flexing your keyboard warrior fingers, yes it is metal. In fact, if you heard this song by accident, it would take you 34 seconds to even realise it's Babymetal at all (because that's when the vocals kick in). Prior to the trio's unique voices creating that now signature sound, it's nothing but riff and heavy kick drums backed up by juttering electronics...But let's be honest here, this song, as with so many in Babymetal's arsenal, is about the vocals. It's anthemic from the beginning with Moa and Yui chanting "Seiya sessesse seiya" before Su's ethereal, harmonious vocals soar over the top with a punching "Ossu!" from the back. Then there's the small matter of the chorus. If you're not sat bouncing in your chair to perhaps the most infectiously bubblegum words we've heard this year, then you're hollow inside – it's even got some big "Whoa-oh-ohs" for added fist-in-the-air fun. And on it goes.

I never said it was, it's common practice in all forms of media to sugarcoat reviews and reports in exchange for exclusive interviews or ad space or whatever else. Books music video games, sports, etc.
People should be paying more attention to websites and publication that haven't been under Koba's pimphand for the last year. But then again those websites and publications don't care to review singles that get re-released in an album a couple of months from then.

Nobody until now was knowledgeable enough to talk about its djent metal style. It was either nu-metal or dadrock. It really shows how little everyone here knows about metal and its subgenres and styles, whether you like the song or not. from the last Thread
>Musically the band sound great as they chop and change between heavy riffs and that modern style of start/stop rhythm. The main riff is delightfully heavy with a very heavy modern sound. Though most bands who use this sound don’t produce anything half this catchy, melodic or interesting. It grooves along wonderfully under the siren like vocals of SU-METAL and her adorable partners in crime. Much like the first album, KARATE sounds marvellous and there has been a lot of thought and attention put into the final mix. It would be quite easy to screw up a sound like this but the fact they managed to entwine J-Pop and heavy metal is quite impressive.
>Karate sounds like dadrock
...what? Who actually believes this? If anything it sounds like something Periphery or some other djent band would make.
>hurr djent djent djent!

so far i've only seen one user comment calling them djent, and many others calling them other things.
go listen to any djent and you'll hear the similar guitar riffs and drums, but you might notice djent maintains that style for the whole song.
metalcore and numetal have similar sounding instrumentals too, but unlike djent their breakdowns are usually designed to be catchy and are usually softer than the verses, like karate
even though people overlook babymetal's vocals as detracting from how metal they are, numetal is soft enough that you can reasonably categorize them as such without any hurt feelings, but if somebody is expecting djent they wouldn't tolerate the vocals at all

>The music in the first album was good but nothing to write home about. It all worked in the same way Austrian Death Machine does. It's standard or generic riffs and beats but with a gimmicky twist. The first BabyMetal album didn't know what it wanted to be so it had almost generic elements of different music styles mashed together. Listen to "Line!" and you'll see, well hear, what I mean. That's the extreme example, but you could feel that kind of insecurity through most of the album.

numetal doesn't imply screaming but metalcore and djent do, although, metalcore can be very soft vocally though sometimes, so maybe metalcore fans actually would accommodate babymetal better.
also, the vague, bland lyrics about strength, fighting and such that babymetal has been doing recently is exactly like disturbed though.

Bullying is bullying. How people bully is another matter, but they made the song universally relatable. There isn't anything exclusively about Japanese bullying in the song. Don't turn around and act like I'm new because you said something dumb.
Also, I said arena. I didn't say it was the same thing. Yes, it's more vague, but it's still about not giving in to despair and instead fighting back with them. It's vague enough that you can apply it to more situations, but there's nothing wrong with that. It isn't vague to the point of meaninglessness. It has a clear message.

Just to put myself in your shoes for a second, it's still about not giving in to despair and instead fighting back with them like you said, then this is just IDZ 2.0 but with less fun. More of the same but also less of the same.
>>14843580

>>14843738
>>in b4 the Mature and Serious neo-djent crowd thinks that Awadama Fever is the weakest song on the album
but it is though
I really don't like metal very much and it drives me further and further away from BM now thay Koba's doing his best to make them as mature and metal as possible with minimal idolshit.
I really like idolshit and I wanna see cute Moa and her friends growing up while having fun. Plus singing and dancing like there's no tomorrow.
I keep watching those 2010-2011 Sakura Gakuin music videos and I wish times would be like that. Even last year BM was better than this...
>>14843734
I never said it was about the same thing, only that they share themes that are not too dissimilar. Obviously, one is not specifically or exclusively about bullying.
>>14843778
>>14843778
I'm a metalfag first, then came into Idol music/entertainment and what Koba's been doing has also been driving me away from them as a metalfag.
It's not more metal, it's more middle-of-the-road rock, more "mature". It entirely goes against what he was saying in interviews like a couple of years ago about how the metal world was stagnating and everyone was sounding the same and so he wanted to make something new and original and fun.
It's not big loss I guess. There's still loads of fun idol group and loads of heavy metal bands, but too bad that this one group that managed to perfectly bridge both worlds went all semi-soft semi-hard on us.

I don't mind the whine posting, but you could at least post cuties.
Wall-of-text bitching is the true cancer.

Thanks anon.
Since /bmsg/ is extra shit today I'll try to keep myself occupied with origsaving among other things.

that's entirely amuse's fault.

Wrong on so many levels. One of them being
>Ooga
>new
>>14844206
Look at their uniform is all old and shit. Amuse should stop being so stingy and have new uniforms made
>>14844585
those have graduates' scent
>>14844585
They like the idea of wearing their senpai's uniforms. If they get new ones, it would be for a design change.

Maybe Hinata can answer that
>>14844671
Hana's. Whoever has it now is blessed by the scent of perfection.
all this drama in /bmsg/ about the new song.
BM has always been playing between the j-pop and metal spectrum, some songs are more j-pop oriented, but since the beginning BM had straight-forward metal songs like IDZ, it seems like idolfags are losing their shit because Karate is more metal oriented and they are conveniently forgetting about Awadama and Yava in the new album, seriously guys, you're acting like the new album has nothing but metal in it when you know that's not true.
>>14844671
Hinata said that she liked Ooga smell the best
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3bY6rzxNuM
I wonder If this thread was created before the release of the first album, would we have the same compulsive bitching and whining?
>>14844897
>>14844920
Go away, we're talking about who smells best right now. It's Sara btw

FUCKOFFKOBA
>>14844897
>>14844920
this new album is hard rock that tries to be serious and epic, it's less metal than the last one.
>>14844946
How many songs have you listened to on the album?
>>14844972
We've all already heard half the album. I don't agree with him, but the "you haven't heard enough of it to judge it!" thing just looks desperate.
>>14844946
hard rock? c'mon /anon, we've all listened to some of the new songs
Road of resistance = speed metal
Karate = djent
No rain no rainbow = power ballad
Awadama = EDM + metal
Yava = ska + metal
The one = prog metal
All of them have the same jpop lyrics and we know nothing about the rest of the songs, so i call BS on your hard rock argument.
>>14844972
Half of the album already senpai
>>14844988
Sorry, I was asking legit as I'm new. Is there a place where I can hear the new stuff?
>>14844920
There's always been bitching, but it has intensified quite a bit. I would guess if the two albums were swapped, the bitching would be the same because album 2 isn't album 1.
Best smelling is Raura, by the way.
>>14844998
>le djent meme that started today
>calling chigau and The One metal
>Amen break fever
>Road of resistance being a new song
and also this one is less pop/fun, there's both metalheads and idolfags complaining about it.
>>14844998
>Those are the new songs
Oh damn, how long has this stuff even been out?
>>14845013
Album 1 was great because it incorporated pop elements with metal, and not rock elements with other rock elements.
>>14845004
The spreadsheet, anon-kun. A couple of the songs were of course already released in the Babymetal album limited edition/Budokan Blu Ray.
>>14844946
Well, it won these guys over.
https://youtu.be/BB-evqHn0u4?t=42s
>>14845023
Nice. I always skip OPs for some reason.
>>14845025
Was just about to post it. Those losers raving over that song pretty hard.
>>14845025
Of course, it was whitewashed of practically all its fun pop elements.
The last single that they released was a fun song about chocolate, so of course it divided metalheads. Now Koba is playing it safe with hard rock/soft metal.
>>14845025
oyy vey
>>14845023
>rock elements with other rock elements
Do you know how unconvincing that is when we've already heard the music?
>>14845043
>The first BabyMetal album didn't know what it wanted to be so it had almost generic elements of different music styles mashed together
>This tracks seems a lot more focused. It may be because they've got a steady touring line up of a live band instead of the band recorded track playing, or maybe it's just how much metal fans gravitated towards BabyMetal that focused things somewhat. I don't know
It's almost like people outside this place are also noticing the changes, but that can't be right cuz there's no changes.
>>14845039
>hard rock, less metal
>guys reluctantly saying it's very metal
>well of course
>>14845043
>we
speak for yourself, and I'm speaking for myself as well, I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. If they like this new softmetal, good for them. I'm not even buying the album.
>>14845041
Koba's tentacles reach far and wide!
>>14845039
Playing it safe with a song about bubble gum from the same writer?
>>14845084
>>14845041
Wouldn't want to anger Koba with ill words about his very very metal album and have babymetal skip the next Kerrang awards or pass on exclusive interviews!
>>14845096
We're talking about the song that was chosen as a single. Awadama is not that song that was chosen to be the lead single from the album, anon.
>>14844998
>Karate = djent
>>14845105
>>14845041
He also dissed the rest of their music. Take off your tinfoil.
>>14845108
>playing it "safe" with a single
Who gives a fuck?
>>14845126
The entire (at least half okay) album is playing it safe with soft metal and mature pop.
Almost like Koba was listening to haters of babymetal and is trying to win them over as well.
>>14845089
>I'm not even buying the album.
What's it to you then? Why do you care? You've already made your choice. It doesn't affect you.
>>14845145
Why do you care?
>>14845161
why do you care if he cares?
>>14845131
>soft metal
Yeah. Those guys were describing the riffs as soft and delicate, just their cup of tea. That's totally what haters want. Soft metal.
>>14845164
Why do you care if he cares that he cares?
>>14845168
>Those guys
>>14845041

>>14845116

>>14845196
Switching gears? Given up on the tinfoil route? It proves that he was won over. Maybe he'll give the rest another shot and let it grow on him.
>>14845206
It proves that he was won over
>>14845131
>Almost like Koba was listening to haters of babymetal and is trying to win them over as well.
>>14845211
Yes. Not with soft metal, though. He was raving about how heavy it was.
>>14845219
He must have been on Xanax, Babymetal Death and Megitsune and most other songs from the first shit all over Karate in terms of how hard they are.
>>14845225
Those are different subgenres. Babymetal Death shits all over Doki Doki in terms of hardness. Speaking of which, it's a wonder how those crying too serious, no fun allowed never complain about Babymetal Death. It barely has the girls in it and it is straight death metal, no pop of any kind.
>>14845275
because it's not half of the album. There were a few more serious songs like Akatsuki and Akumu No Rondo but that was it, and those were really genuinely heavy.
There will never be another Uki Uki Midnight or Doki Doki Morning or Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai or Yon No Uta.
I mean unless color me surprised and the other entire half of the album is "classic" Babymetal. In which case, good job Koba I guess.
>>14845275
1. it's actually metal metal
2. it is basically an instrumental song
3. it was a warm up song
4. it was the lesser of many evils
>>14845285
>or Yon No Uta.
good desu
damn. this dadrock fag must be mad as fuck. bitchass nigga been going at it for like 3 days straight. have you at least stepped out your house? once?
also correct me if im wrong but dadrock fag is ex-tripfag moaster..right? i remebr that faggot use to hate chigau
>>14845285
Awadama Fever - not serious, heavy
Chigau - not serious, heavy
The One - serious
Karate - 3/4 serious, heavy
Road of Resistance - half serious, heavy
>>14845312
the same also/u/rezarNemaybe*
>>14845291
Does it have to be death metal for it to be metal metal?
>>14845312
>used to argue with him about bubblegum song
>liked chigau but felt uneasy about it for some reason
>tfw now i see that he was right all along
