All kancolle has to do is incorporate some features which the clones are actually doing better such as the unique skill system and clarified or revised formations, because currently almost everything is just line ahead/the formation that deals the most damage, because the other options do fuckall.
After all these years I still don't get why people liked FFT so much. The gameplay was ok, but everything else was so fucking boring. I think Kancolle's gameplay is improving though. Every event they bring out something new and interesting.

On a serious note, they introduce new mechanics in new events. If the mechanic is good, they'll stick to it. Like the debuff mechanic and Combined fleet mechanic. They discard the horrible ones like gauge regen which is a nightmare. Also LoS check is becoming less and less important.

My choice is between Tone class or Abukuma. Tone has air stike and more fire power with DA but Abukuma is cheap as hell with no bauxite needed and midget sub+quint max is not that bad.
