Also, in one of the anime episodes the text is in Russian, but that's probably just DEEN being DEEN

I finished Umineko Ep. 5-8 (with PS3 patch). I started in November 2015 and I finished today - February 2016.
I remember 4chan anons had some theories that showed up in Ep. 5-8. We solved the epitaph. We had a bomb explosion theory. We had a Battler Shannon pony theory. We had a Battler is Kyrie's real son theory. That's all I remember.

So did Eva actually not kill anyone during episode 3?
All of the crimes can be committed by Yasu, right? Or can Rudolf/Kyrie only possibly be killed by Eva?
>>14764340
According to the manga Eva killed Rosa, Maria, Rudolf, Kyrie, Krauss, Natsuhi and Battler
>>14764414
Well, couldn't it theoretically be possible for Yasu to kill Rosa/Maria?
She was "dead" after all, so she had a perfect alibi. As far as Battler goes, isn't that after 12:00? So doesn't that mean the bomb went boom and everyone died except Eva?
>>14764513
The VN shows Eva shooting Battler in the chest at the end, so that was probably her
But I guess Yasu could theoretically have killed Rosa and Maria, unless I'm forgetting about something
Who killed Battler and Kinzo during episode 2?
It's plausible that Rosa and Maria, during their escape, fell down the cliffside, but that doesn't explain Battler and Kinzo. Since Sayo killed herself after murdering George.
>>14764944

He was already dead from the start

>>14766770
Of course he's a virgin. Although Battler was a player like his father, he never went the entire way and just pretended to get with girls because he was both bored and nihilistic.
You have to remember one key piece of evidence though. Battler was 18 during the events on the island and Ikuro and Tohya released the forgeries 12 years later.
What's the name you give to someone when they remain a virgin past their 30s?A wizard. So yeah, Battler never had sex.
>>14769468
Are you trying to tell me Battler didn't bang Ikuko even once throughout all the decades they were together
I just finished playing 1-4, and it was great. Is it possible to setup 5-8 with the old sprites + voices, like I had with 1-4?
I was looking at the patches and I read something about not being able to delete arc files for this version.
>>14769468
How old is Ange when she meets Tohya anyway?
She doesn't seem to have a partner but I'm really glad she's leading a fulfilling life.
>>14770871
They never specify, but she seemed pretty old, especially considering she had cancer and IIRC there was a line in the VN about how she could have been even more influential had she become popular 10 or 20 years earlier when she was still healthier and younger.
Either way, Ange's growth as a character really hit home for me. Becoming someone successful and generally content and in peace with her life is such a huge leap from the suicidal and depressed 18 year old she used to be, it's amazing. I know it's corny, but when I finished the VN a few years back, it definitely made me change my view on life to a more positive one, which is funny considering I only got into the series originally for the memes.
>>14770209
>Is it possible to setup 5-8 with the old sprites + voices, like I had with 1-4?
It's not possible. To quote their webiste:
>DO NOT ALTER THE CONTENTS OF THE PATCH FOLDER. Besides the voice arcs, all other arcs including sprites and backgrounds are tied down to specific paths. Removing them will not revert them to their original sprites, you will literally have no sprites or backgrounds if you attempt this. This patch is NOT interchangeable.

>>14771477

>>14771498

>>14771527

He also talks about Rosatrice in another interview:
>I then would go on to ask about the fan theory that the character of Rosa Ushiromiya and Beatrice in Umineko are, in fact, the same person. Ryukishi explained that he was aware of this particular theory, and would go on to admit that he sometimes showed references to false theories, such as this one, to throw off and trick his readers.
>>14771470
You can still edit it though. They said the same thing about this 1-4 and it still works with sprites+original music
I know there are flaws in his writing, but to you what are the things that stick out positively when reading ryus work? What makes it work?

>>14753565
>I'm literally Lambdadelta - intelligent, nihilistic and with a wicked sense of humor
You're not.
Because first thing you would know is that she's not the things you mentioned but
1. Absolute
2. Embodies "hardwork" and unwavering will.
3. Cake
You are neither of those.
Nor are you a '*"~"*~'CUTE'~*"~"*' little magical witch girl who travels the sea of kakera to relieve her boredom.
>>14772333
I like how Umineko's witch have interesting quirks far beyond what should be expected from their title.
Lambdadelta is a cake and the witch of Certainty. Bernkastel is a cat and the witch of Miracle. They each have a name, a personality, a secondary attribute, and a title. They don't match.
In other works, anthropomorphic personifications tend to really look like their theme. But in Umineko the witch of Death would probably be made of clouds, called Stephanie, and a huge eater.
>>14772549
>They each have a name, a personality, a secondary attribute, and a title. They don't match.
Bern/34 don't match with each other because they are supposed to be opposites.
east v west, blonde v blue, light v dark, day v night, 99% v 1%, absolute power v unyielding possibilites, etc.
But their personalities match with their titles.
Lambda is the witch of certainty. Her power is "absolute power". She represents the 99.99%. She supports those who work hard and have absolute resolve (like Miyo) because in reality that's what you need to succeed with CERTAINTY.
Bernkastel is the witch of miracles. Her power is "endless reset". She represents the 0.01%. She supports the weak who fight in the face of impossible odds (like Rikka or even Ange) because in reality a MIRACLE is that's what you need in the face of impossible odds.

The characters.
Ryukishi may be a shit writer, but the man knows how to tell a story. None of the characters are good and none of them are evil. A lot of the characters in Umineko, are greedy and selfish and do despicable, horrible things, but Ryukishi somehow manages to make you empathize with them. He writes in a way that you understand where each character is coming from, and why they act the way they do.
It's what I appreciated the most in umineko, and something that I try to strive for when I write my own stories.

>The book has some scenes that are very familiar to my own experiences with Jesus. For example, there's a girl who is unhappy, but becomes happier when she makes friends with someone who can only help her if she believes.
Really? I thought Maria was extremely pitiful. True, believing in Saktarou helps her from the reality of having no friends and an abusive mother but you can clearly see how she takes these childish delusions too far and ends up becoming a wreck.
>>14774472
Actually, I just thought of something else. It actually really makes sense if Ryukishi was a christian considering a major theme of Higurashi was the idea of recognizing your sin and atoning for it, which falls in line with the Christian doctrine specifically.
I don't know, maybe I'm grasping at straws here.

>I think it'll help people who think only in logical terms see the importance of faith.
Nah. All it did was infuriate me.
>>14774111

Don't be silly, it was obviouslyKanonin a dress
>>14774472
>I think it'll help people who think only in logical terms see the importance of faith
It's just escapism glorified. Yes you can sugar coat things for people who can't handle the truth, like giving solace to Maria, but in the end humans become stronger by facing the truth and dealing with it. Ofcourse you still need white lies here and there, but in general I feel like magic is overglorified. Then again I rooted for Erika to win so my opinion might be biased.

The new release only covers the first two parts. Pirate the original release and get the music fix.
>>14773917
Yes, they have confirmed that.

PS2 Graphics are the superior graphics, anything anyone else says is pure bullshit
>original graphics have hamhands
>MG graphics have way too much titty, plus they looks like rubber inflated dolls
obvious, OG music is the way to go as well.

Thats BS, the only way to solve the epitaph is being a native japanese who knows chinese.
>>14760708
>>14774955
I remember anons found out that the epitaph uses the word - quadrillion. And we figured that the chapel's relief had a device to open the way to the secret VIP mountain-of-gold room.
>>14774819
Where do you even find the CGrips for Chiru?
>>14764575
I know that it shows Eva shooting Battler, but after 12:00 anything goes because the bomb blew up. Whatever happens after 12:00 never really happened because everyone went kaboom.

Ryukishi sees his characters as actors. Even though the person behind the character is the same, they have their own role between stories.
>>14774584
This is my favorite part about WTC.
Ryukishi just straight up throws the answers right out there in the question arcs, but then laughs them off.
It's fucking hilarious.
>>14775333
I thought that too but I personally think that the only reason he made Buttler look like Battler is to use Ange as an important unseen character in Last Season. It made the tragedy more personal somehow because you knew that if Butter was like Battler, there would also be an Ange, and it was funny that she was actually included in the story.
I also find it somewhat funny that the actor of Rika actually grows up as the story continues.
In Higurashi, she's about 10 years old.
In Umineko, she looks like a teenager.
In Higanbana, she looks in her early 20s, pretending to be younger, like those old tv school sitcoms where adults pretends to be teenagers.
In Rose Guns Days, she looks to be in her late 20s or in her 30s?
And in Hotarubi, there's a Rika character that looks to be in her mid 30s or early 40s.
I swear, Rika is endlessly growing up as Ryukishi keeps writing stories.
>>14775344
He's honestly been doing that since Higurashi.
What would you guys show to convince someone to read a 100+ hour picture and sound book?
I showed him this, but I might have to made a mistake instead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfNaaqm8xPU
>>14775480
>show
I convince people by simply saying it's a masterpiece and to start with Higurashi. There's really nothing else like Ryukishi.
>>14775480
For starters, ask if they played any adventure games, like Ace Attorney. See if it's something they already have experience with and if they enjoy at all or not.
Visual novels are still largely like books, but with pictures and sounds that can enhance the experience. I believe sound is an important element in horror and suspense, so a horror genre visual novel done right can exceed a normal horror story in plain text.
I agree with the other anon, start them off with Higurashi. They only have to read the first episode and they can decide for themselves if it's something they should want to continue and get into.
>>14775480
Make him a favor and tell him to not read it.
The visual novel loses all its steam past ep3, it somewhat regains power when Erika is introduced them kills itself by the end of it.
>>14775581
Which is why he should read Higurashi first. Once he does that, whether or not he finishes Umineko doesn't matter since he would have already read Higurashi.
whatever happened to the umineko steam announcement
>>14776287
It's happening, they're just slow as fuck for whatever reason.
>>14776331
>these cunts have the rights to localizing both Higurashi and Umineko
please kill me, I never wanted Ryukishi's works to be treated like this.
>>14776790

>>14777010
The one on the left is the first version, but people complained about oversexualisation, so they changed the sprites to what you see on the right.
>>14777217
it's more like they got the artist to remove the impossible clothes tag
So, what was the deal with Amakusa? Was he to kill Ange if she didn't cooperate with Okonogi?
>>14777217
Did they change the Satoko sprite that people complained about as well?
>>14777217
Is it possible to get the old sprites back? The PS2 and original sprites are better anyways.
>>14777217
more like people complained that it looked dumb as hell
>>14777217
The first version looks fucking awful anatomy-wise though. I couldn't care less about whether they're sexualized or not (which is a funny complaint in itself since Ryukishi's original sprites aren't exactly chaste either,) but the proportions in the first one are noticeably off, especially considering it's professional work, so I can see why they changed it.
>>14775424
Wasn't Rika based on his daughter?
Also Rika and Bern are story related, in the origins etc, besides that they are just expys and I love that idea of his, because using the Piece meta, it seems even if its not canon, that those well known character we love are the Players for all the new stories.
>>14777861
>Wasn't Rika based on his daughter?
Ryukishi's? He doesn't have kids. He was still living with his parents when he started writing Higurashi
>>14777861
No, Rika is based on Rika.
>>14777978
So who is this specimen?
Probably is some member of the family or something I don't remember.
>>14778001
Someone else said she's a kid idol, and they met for some kind of promotion
>>14778028
Kid idol?
I better not know about it anymore.

It's Rika, why do you have to ask?

>>14779041
Bern and Lambda dudes?
>>14779053

>>14779094

>>14779122
>>14779094

How did Ryukishi come up with the name Lambdadelta anyways? And did he have Umineko planned when he wrote Higurashi? What with Bernkastel's poems and everything.
