Why can I find a place for under $700 utls included in Tokyo but not my own shit town?

Well smaller is great sure but I would hate to have my place stand out like that and be the on the literal corner of the street.
On the other hand, I prefer there to be a certain amount of space between the general living area and the entrance. Pretty much every place I've lived in had a small entrance hall that was separated by doors.

You live in a shitty overpriced area and you want to live in a house that's worse than the holes in the wall dwarfs in Dwarf Fortress live in. Those places all look like RPG houses with one main room and a bedroom on the top floor.

I can get all utilities included in a 3 room apartment here for that price.
These "most expensive cities" rankings don't consist of only rents, but also transport, amenities, food bills, etc, i.e, average purchasing power.
I've lived in London, Paris and Geneva and while apartments for €400 a month were/are abundantly available in these cities, renting one wouldn't have made my wallet significantly fuller as everything from parking to alcohol to electronics are all outrageously expensive.
