Mahjong is suffering edition
>>14728756
it sure is
Tournament in less than an hour. I'm warmly waiting in this thread for the meantime.
>>14728756
tfw the flow leaves you
Will someone stream the tournament
He had it rough there. Only had two safe tiles in his hand.
After this round he started dealing into basically everything and then busted. Poor guy.
GOOD!
>>14728862
That's a very lesbian hand, it's beautiful.
I someone missing from the tournament?
>>14728884
Who is supposed to be playing?
>>14728888
I have no idea
>>14728888
Nice quads. Me (fumofumo), mancoy , UNIVERSE and Smith357 if I recall correctly.
>>14728891
mancoy
fumofumo
Smith357
UNIVERSE
Everyone here yet? Looks like there's people in 7447, so let's head to 7446.
Still waiting on Smith. Gogo, this might be your chance.
>>14728940
Yaay
>>14728399
>>14728428
Just to make sure, but we're talking about this time
http://www.timeanddate.com/countdown/to?iso=20160211T03&p0=1440&msg=4jan2016+Quarterfinals+B-2
And we're waiting for trakks to confirm?
>>14728952
Yeah, 3am UTC. San-san is the only one that's confirmed that time so far. Still need confirmation from Doragan, Corak and trakss.
>>14728963
Oh, just checked my email, Doragan and trakss have confirmed so we're just waiting on Corak then.
>>14728952
Corak here, that time is fine.
>>14728970
Great, that's everyone. See you guys then.
It begins.

Stahp!
These ippatsu tsumos are killing me.
Okay
No
Everyone has the flow but me
This is rigged
It's gonna be one of those games, isn't it.
>UNIVERSE's starting hand
>That reset
That must hurt.
Aww no ippatsu for me?
>>14729010
You fucking bet.
Another potential ippatsu missed.
3 (three) ippatsu tsumo mangan in a row.
This is some high quality stuff right there.
Thanks internet
Thanks
Gogo, please. These mind games.
pls don't deal into Gogo's toitoi

MJnet? I've tried it but all it has is east only unless you pay money. Who the hell wants to play east only?
>>14729079
You can make private matches that aren't east only.
Spectating alone is making me lose R!
Welps, now I can't get back in
It was.. fun.........
>>14729086
Is that so?
>>14729097
Well, if you win the next hanchan hard enough, you could still advance.
>>14729097
rip Gogo, you had your chances.
>>14729100
Yup, if you want to join, the room is PLEBrum.
Gogone with the wind
>>14729102
Wasn't Gogo just subbing for someone?
>>14729106
Yeah. I'm sure Smith357 is crying.
>>14729106
Yeah, but as an official sub he's eligible to advance.
>>14729106
Yes, and now we see why
>mancoy being dealt pairs green and south needing a quick hand
pls
>>14729104
I would play but my internet is shitting itself at the moment.
>>14729114
I swear, this never happened before!
>>14729118
The lobby will be up for a while.
More like NoGo
>Mancoy's hands
I wish I had that luck in 0000
That was a good game, although I barely did anything and my good hands never materialized.
>>14729138
You did manage to immediately kill my potential Daisangen.
100 point difference!
>Endless South 2
And he finally catches up
Time for Gogo's revenge.

Ehhh what kind of hand is Gogo going for? I think he should have kept it closed.

oh open tanyao
>>14729182
It looked like an open tanyao but I have no idea why he was sitting on the dora (south wind) like that.
damn that starting hand for universe was pretty insane.
>>14729193
I'm surprised he didn't shoot for either toitoi, honitsu, or both. Or at least riichi on the 1p when he was in chiitoi tenpai.
I really don't understand why Gogo opens his hand when there isn't an obvious han to build toward.
>>14729196
yeah i would have called riichi on the 1p.
>>14729207
I don't really understand why you feel the need to comment on other people when you don't know the difference between yaku and han.
>>14729214
He meant hand, asshole
his net strikes again
>>14729220
No.
Gogo's revenge.
THE BAIMAN
>that ippatsu tsumo
I KNEW IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO BET ON YOU GOGO
aw neither universe or fumo will finish their hands
>Both players are sitting on 2 south tiles each
>>14729234
That's what you get for opening your hand like a slut. They'd get somewhere if they worked around using it as their pair.
Gogo can't be stopped
damn his luck modifier kicked in this game.
>throwing out the 4p first
Wow Gogo
Wow
Gogo's bluffs control the whole table.
>Board looks like a kokushi
>Just sitting with a cheap chanta
Impressive
Nobody knows what Gogo is doing.
his luck this game is incredible
don't do it fumooo
why didn't fumo just win off that 8p
What the heck is this?
>>14729273
was probably going for chanta
>>14729273
Delicious free pon button
>twice in a row
RIP gogo
>>14729273
It's my impression that Gogo only knows a few yaku, such as chanta, so he just tries to build hands around those, although I admit I've hardly followed any players in the /jp/ mahjong thread. Just watching this game and last, this is the impression I have.
>>14729265
He was in furiten due to a 4p discard from early in the round.
d-didn't fumo just declare a furiten richii?
>>14729313
No, the 7 sou is a single wait
>>14729313
>>14729318
oops i'm blind.
GYAKUTEN
Gogo getting punished for doing stupid shit. Justice has been served.
>>14729321
If he had 12345678 and was waiting on the 9, you would have been correct because the 3 would have counted.
Universe rolling in south 4 again
>>14729288
Well that hand was really shitty. If I don't see something clear from the go, I go for chanta or tanyao
Good game guys.
>>14729349
And it worked!
mancoy -5
fumofumo +23
Gogo -31
UNIVERSE +13
Congratulations to fumofumo and UNIVERSE, you'll join Nishishi and nocculta in the side A semis (unless I need to swap people around for scheduling).
>>14729360
ETA on A semis? Any chance it can happen before the weekend?
what a game
>>14729360
Actually it looks like Saturday 6am UTC fits everyone. If you can make it, please confirm.
>>14729360
Wow fumofumo probably doesn't make it if he ends up second that last game.
>>14729371
What's that time in GMT?
>>14729348
I couldn't make the comeback, but I made enough to survive. Also, I've gotten North seat for every single game this tournament.
>>14729372
That ikkitsukan win over Gogo capped my gyakuten. Didn't really expect it to end this way.
>>14729375
UTC is the same as GMT except that GMT sometimes has daylight savings.
Here's a timer.

Aw, shit. It's the big guns.
>>14729385
Universe here. 5 days is perfect. I was afraid it would be tomorrow because I suddenly had something turn up.
Afterparty in 7447.
Woah we were playing for an hour? Not counting the first one because >disconnected
It was fun
>>14729417
Yeah that second hanchan was really long. The first was fairly long, too.
>>14729385
Nishishi here. I'm leaving on Saturday for a whole week, but 6am should still be fine. I will give you an update later in the week.
>>14729421
Everything is thanks to Gogo and UNIVERSE's gyakuten attempts.
Current tournament status:
>>14729417
Both hanchans total were about and hour and 45 minutes. The second one had 19 hands played with one aborted.
>>14729389
>>14729411
Great.
>>14729438
Alright. Please let me know once you know for sure. We can try and arrange a compromise if we have to.
>>14729455
I just asked my boss and apparently I have a lunch meeting at that time. I can compromise on a weekday even if I have to stay up in the middle of the night since 2 weeks from now I'm not available on a weekend as well.
>>14729462
fumofumo here by the way. I'll just update my available times in the whenisgood link.
>>14729462
>>14729475
Are you able to play after that meeting? How's 8am or 9am?
>>14729068
This hand caused the whole tournament to change
>>14729484
I just realized, it happened again. A strange coincidence saved me and let me come in first in the first hanchan again. I was the dealer, and if I had to pay the 8000 points, I doubt it would have been able to make the comeback. The last place in the second hanchan would have guaranteed I was out. I think I just beat out Gogo's luck in a head-to-head battle.
>>14729068
Would he win it if he had the auto-win button toggled?
>>14729482
No I can't, since I'll be outside that time. I can do 7-8 hours before that but that's it.
Waza pls
+- 0 with retarded tanki waits. I don't feel bad.
tfw still bad
Good game guys.
Surprisingly Gogo didn't deal in once in the game we just had.
He also didn't win a single hand.
>>14729561
I was Aha, sorry if I made the game suck for everyone else. I've only been playing for a few days.
>>14729561
Someone else was dealing in before he got the chance to.
>>14729567
You played just fine, worry not
>>14729577
Should I be holding off 7447 if I just know Yaku and not much else about the game?
>>14729541
Hm, this will be tricky then. How about Thursday 6pm UTC?
>>14729443
Oh god, I'm so sorry. I overslept for my nap, and I missed the match. I underestimated jet lag.
>Gogo at last.
This is my punishment
-Smith357
>>14729581
It's fine. We've been through Gogo so I think we've weathered your kinds of players already. At least try to learn some basic defense techniques like suji, kabe and betaori and master the yakus you know.
>>14729585
I'm sorry it had to be like this. Well, there's always next time.
>>14729567
Don't worry about it. You weren't calling on random tiles and making yakuless hands so you already did better than 90% of new players. You should work on defense though, try not to deal in as much. Especially what happened in East 2, throwing down a live dora is extremely dangerous.
>>14729591
I'll go play away my sorrows at 0 I suppose
>>14729585
That one was for you.
>>14729595
>throwing down a live dora is extremely dangerous.
When someone calls riichi I mean.
>>14729583
I think I can manage but I'll see if my internet connection will hold up at that time.
>>14729567
It's okay, man, you made a valiant effort. Scored a few hands, too!
For E1, you shouldn't have gone for the richii, imo. Two of the 2p were already discarded.
For E2 bonus hand 1 you shouldn't have discarded the south wind since it was the dora. Then again I just went full retard with the tanki waits this game.
For E3, waiting on a tanki wait for 5s is a bad idea, usually. If one riichis for chiitoitsu it's usually for an honor tile or any tile that isn't 3, 4, 5, as those are the most versatile tiles. In your case, you had a red 5s so in theory that was worth the risk. You just got unlucky here, imo.
For E4, you were too far from completing toitoi. I think you should have bailed.
I think you played the rest of the game well.
Thanks for all your advice, I'll work on everything. Good game
>>14729627
Another piece of advice is that you can't chi something then throw out something that completes the wait. Such as the 4 man I bet you just tried to throw out for san-shoku.
>>14729613
I just saw your revised Whenisgood entry. Will your internet be more reliable during the new time blocks?
Nishishi, are you able to compromise and do 9am? If not then it might be easier if I swap someone from side B.
>>14729636
I picked the times when I'm at the office a few hours before/after work. I'll try later today if my internet is stable so I can be more flexible with my playing times.
>1 away from Kokushi tenpai
Well that one went better, thanks guys.
Now I remember why I ignore Chanta when I play ranked or tournament. Dealt in twice big.
>>14729636
Nishishi said he' can only tell by Wednesday.
>>14729086
How?
Christ I feel my luck oozing out after this hand.
>>14730039
It's okay, that fourth Chun was probably in the dead wall anyway.
>>14730057
It just went downhill after that.
>>14730039
Remi would probably win all the games.
>>14730606
Sorry forgot my reply. Honestly it depends, if I'm in 7447 I'd pass it for sure but in the ranked games I'd probably take it there's only 3 tikes left and it isn't unlikely that middle pin tiles are tied up in people's hands, however one thing I would have done either way was riichi to get a shot at them ura-dora.
>>14730614
>1 point
Never mind can't riichi can you
>>14730606
Very tough.
Winning that mangan would leave you 14500 points behind third, so even a mangan tsumo in S4 would leave you last. You would need a mangan direct hit or haneman tsumo to get third.
On the other hand, a suuankou would propel you to second place, and you're probably not going to get a better hand than this. You're fucked anyway so might as well dream big.
game of luck!
>>14730940
>all those matching pairs
Jesus
>>14730945
I'll certainly never use this tile
>get another on next turn
Well that happens a lot, i'll just discard this one too
>get another
well that was unfortunate
>get another
Alright fuck that, at least I wont need THIS other tile now.
>get another
>>14730945
Yeah, what >>14730952 said basically happened.
Is there a match today?
>>14728952

Mostly in English, but try not to get too comfortable, beating up bots will get you into some bad habits
>>14731885
No one can beat up the cat though. That bastard gets into tenpai by turn 6 like 50% of the time.
>>14729936
Not him, but in the main menu, in the Freeモド box, in the bottom right corner is プライベート戦.
When you're there, the gold button will redirect you to your browser where you can make a private room, and under one of the options, you can set it to 四麻半荘 (4 player hanchan). You can then use the other (green) button in プライベート戦 to connect to the lobby you just made.
>>14731927
I use the cat since I don't dig the other avatars. Didn't realize he was so broken
Thank you for the games.
Where's my fucking Renhou, Tenhou?
>>14733081
>Renhou
Anon, I..
>>14733081
Tenhou doesn't use Renhou sadly. You would've been better off ignoring that and calling double riichi. Or even getting a Chihou if you were lucky.
That said I think it's really silly they don't have Renhou in Tenhou. At the very least have Renhou be worth mangan!
>>14729936
>>14731968
Well, that's neat, if a little inconvenient. What benefits does MJnet have over Tenhou aside from the avatars (which probably can only be customized with real money)? I wouldn't mind trying it, just curious if it's worth the trouble.
>>14733136
This. Why should I play MJ rather than tenhou?
We should get a JRM thing going again.
If you had 3 sequential sets how would that be interpreted? Let's say you have another sequence and win on your taniki wait, would that be counted as a Sanankou or Pinfu, Iipeikou?
>>14733170
>pair wait
>pinfu
I'm an idiot you win on your other sequence.
>>14733167
I would play but I ran out of points when I tried to play around 5 months ago. Do I have to log in on certain days or some shit?
>>14733170
You mean like 444555666? You always go for the highest possible score, which would be sanankou.
>>14733183
But you lose pinfu in that case, essentially both hands are worth 2 Han, I guess it's worth more fu as well though
>>14733182
Don't they sometimes give you free points every now and then?
I tried to login to my account the other day to check things out but I don't remember the password or the answer to the recovery question.
>>14733127
It's a fucking shame, I got so excited when I saw that ron prompt, too. It's dumb that it's almost always better to just wait for the double riichi, not to mention the chance of chiihou.
If they made it worth a mangan, or even 2 han, then it would make you consider whether you want to go for it or wait for the double riichi, but as it is, it's completely worthless.
>>14733195
You're right I can't read. Apparently you get free points every 3rd, 5th, and 7th day of the week and every 10th and 20th day of the month. Tomorrow is the 3rd day, I don't know how many points they give out though.
>>14733170
I believe it's always evaluated as the highest possible Han, and in cases where you have multiple hand shapes with equal Han values, the one with the highest Fu is chosen, since it gives you more points.
>>14733167
That would be nice but I can't get it to install on Windows 8, wondering if anyone else has that issue. It's still my favorite client presentation wise.
>>14733196
Tenhou may not acknowledge your Renhou, but we do. Congratulations.

If someone calls 3 dora and you're not even close to finishing your hand should you just betaori?
>>14737713
It depends on the flow, but if you don't have a fast hand the flow is not with you so you should play it safe in that situation.
>>14737713
Their hand could be a complete mess except for the dora 3, so no I wouldn't bail. Knowing my luck, I'd probably deal into it regardless of bailing.
Don't forget to log in today for free points on Janryumon.
>>14737713
It depends on the dora. For example, if the dora is a non-round, non-seat wind for the person who calls it, then they must have a predictable yaku to win with it, things like yakuhai, chanta, toi-toi or hon-itsu, which you should be able to narrow down based on discards. In any case where you wouldn't have to deal tiles dangerous to those hands, you can continue progressing your hand.
If the dora is a chunchanpai it gets a little more difficult because kuitan is a thing. Typically betaori is a good decision if you think someone is tenpai, your hand is 2 shanten or more, and your overflow tiles are dangerous.
That said, there's no hard and fast system that applies in every situation.

Is there any chat system during the matches ? I haven't seen one of those during in the youtube videos
>>14738187
The only mahjong client I've ever seen with chat during matches is Toupaiou. JRM had little pre-determined chat cut-ins but other than that nothing. I assume the temptation to cheat or strike deals mid-match is too high.
That and no one wants to hear someone be salty in chat after they deal in to something big.
