Bundle redemption appears to continue, though that is not entirely unexpected as it can take up to three weeks for it to finish up. Although one can see that at least ⁓1300 sales during the last three weeks have been genuine, and that number will increase in the future, as I do n't believe all possible bundle codes have been redeemed.

In other news, the chart is getting a bit unwieldy so I may start truncating some of the older numbers and dumping them in a pastebin soon.

>>
>>14726672
They should be happy that anyone even knows enough about the game to pirate it, it's not like SP has acknowledged its existence beyond like one tweet. But yeah, stealth release an unknown game onto a platform that no one goes to (because Denpa has sold what 2 games?) and be surprised when it doesn't sell!
>>
>>14726672
They seem to be lying, I just checked the biggest pirating sites for VNs and its not on them. Since its not on them I doubt that there is a pirated version out for it right now.
>>
>>14726672
It was their dumb decision to split their names into two, and never use the second one.

For some reason they felt like trying to make their company seem like a 18- or kids company?

Even though top selling titles are usually 18+???

Yurirei on steams proves that you can be known as a company that releases 18+ and still go on steam.

Some games do that. For example, when you use the PS Vita screenshot feature on a GUST game, a copyright notice is added to your screenshot. It's not unthinkable that a game would have an in-built screenshot function with a notice like that, or that Steam would start supporting copyright print on screenshots.

>>
>>14727953
Nukige does sell the best. Plus it's gameplay and by Alicesoft. That's like a triple whammy.
>>
>>14727953

Aside from a few lucky hits, nothing mangagamer puts out sells "well". Nukige have traditionally been far more consistent with at least making back enough to recoup costs though. Of mangagamer's major failures, all have been story titles.

That's hilarious.
>>
>>14728130
If it's for Umiunko I don't mind paying for it although I wish we didn't have to deal with those sprites.
>>
>>14727772
Yuri Ghosts has a demo which would boost sales, and might have a bigger core demographic which would be pushing hard for it sell well, plus it comes out in like five days.

On the other hand, Haruka's in a bit of annoying spot. A decent number of people(mainly the hardcore Alicesoft fans) are still mad over what happened with that deal and the game lacks a good demo for screenshots on twitter. It will probably still do quite well, plus yeah its not out for two weeks. Still plenty of time to buy it.

Oh, and Ghosts is cheaper which might help it out.
>>
>>14728443
There was a mod for Steam Higurashi that uses the PS2 sprites so there will probably be a mod for Umiunko as well.
>>
>>14728443
Which sprites? I thought we were getting both the old ones and some new ones made just for steam? Do you dislike both of them?
>>
>>14728443
Isn't it a waste of resources that can be better spent translating shit that was not available years ago? It's not like they will use any of that money to fund other projects.
>>
>>14728535
No. It's very important that people be able to play it through a secondary interface like Steam instead of just being able to play it on its own.
>>
>>14728535
>translating shit that was not available years ago
That shit doesn't sell, so unless people like you start actually buying games, stuff like uminekos will have higher priority.
>>
>>14728668
But it does kickstart.
>>
>>14728668
I buy my games, just in Japanese.

I'm saying that you should put your money where your mouth is. Only then you can complain.
>>
>>14728721
Fuck off, Dovac.
>>
The things that sell the most are things that are cheap.

Thats why bundles and shitty 10 dollar EVNs are always topping the charts as well as that period of time where Higurashi was selling a lot since its under 10.

If umineko is also cheap it'll sell very well also.

Things like KNS and Gahkthun at 45 will only sell to people who are really looking forward to it and want to support MG.
They're not really things that you come across and be like, "hey this game looks cool and is only 45 dollars? Count me in!"

Yurirei has an english wikipedia page for some reason
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kindred_Spirits_on_the_Roof

>>
>>14728758
>Is Navel still associated with MangaGamer?
No idea, but some of their partners might no longer be with them due to various reasons.

>I remember something about the allages being owned by 5pb but MG normally does 18+ so that shouldn't be a problem?
The problem would be if the game would need Steam sales in order to be profitable. Otherwise, given how story games tend to sell for MG, the company likely wouldn't risk it.
>>
>>14729235
but OreTsuba is a REAL DEAL KAMIGE
It'll probably sell better than anything MG has ever liscenced.
>>
>>14729337

>>14729337
If it needed say 6k full price copies to break even, and none of MG's titles have ever done that, then it would make perfect sense for them not to want to license it. They might not be willing to wait years to recoup their investment.
>>
>>14729373
> If it needed say 6k full price copies to break even, and none of MG's titles have ever done that, then it would make perfect sense for them not to want to license it. They might not be willing to wait years to recoup their investment.

Didn't PE do better than that, Steam release and all?

Too risky though, even though I think it'd sell more than that, the potential margins are too low to justify the high cost of licensing.

I still want to see Hatsuyuki Sakura translated. Some day, surely. Probably will know moon to an acceptable level by then, though.
>>
>>14729373>>14729400
There's no evidence that licensing costs are actually a problem. Only thing that was ever disclosed is that there's problematic IP rights status of oretsuba.
After all, MG had no problem licensing propeller and frontwing games with top anime seyuu, why would suddenly game from one of MG founders be more expensive?
>>
>>14729400
Princess Evangile's Steamspy numbers, and people who bought on MG's site got free keys.
>3,154 ± 1,284

Here's Sekai Project's probably impossible titles for them to license, since I'm not sure they're still posted after their forum revamp. These titles may be beyond MG's reach as well.

To be honest, if they actually licensed that I'd throw money at it if it has a decent translator, purely because I've been waiting for it for soooooooo long.
>>
>>14729422
probably impossible due to costs.
That is from long ago.

Sales are better now and will continue to grow as the VN scene grows and as greater titles that will garner even more sales begin to be released.
>>
>>14729412
>why would suddenly game from one of MG founders be more expensive?
>Very long (> 50 hours)
And depending on the cast size, it could cost similarly to Shin Koihime Musou, which MG has stated to be too expensive to license.
>>
>>14729444
The Steam numbers count keys given for free to people who bought on MG's site.
>>
>>14729446
No, the problem with Ever17 is once again who owns the all-ages rights. The other games have no defined reason.
>>
>>14729458
Nobody even cares about ever17.

Seeing how root double barely made it by nobody would want to even license it.
>>
>>14729464
Root Double barely made it because of Sekai being the one handling the kickstarter. It doesn't mean the game itself wasn't desired.
>>
>>14729488
The game not being particularly desired sure as fuck was a large part of it too.
>>
>>14729507
People refused to back because Sekai owed them outstanding kickstarter rewards, the reward tiers were a joke at launch, and the game was set to launch in March regardless, so people didn't feel like backing it. I've seen plenty of people hyped for it though.

Hi dovac or Sekai PR. I'm sure all your future kickstarters will have similar problems.
>>
>>14729534
I have a lower opinion of Dovac than you do, I'm sure, but I don't see how you can even begin to argue that these "real deal" games with no title recognition among the general audience have any demand after KnS2, Cartagra, and Gahkthun bombed dismally. Look at what people request and are hyped for. It's all moege and anime adaptation shit. Gahkthun's razor, asshat.
>>
>>14729548

All the "real deal" titles that do well have at least one of the following, but usually both: 1) a TV anime and 2) waifus.

Steins;Gate? TV anime and waifus.
Clannad? TV anime and waifus.
Grisaia? TV anime and waifus.

Gotta appeal to those anime only plebs.
>>
>>14729548
Most lower to mid tier story vns can make a profit if they're on Steam. All-ages titles always sold like crap on MG's site, but they still licensed Himawari, Tokyo Babel, and Shadows of Pygmalion.
>>
>>14729548
But moogy says oretsuba is good so thats a guaranteed 1000 sales.
>>

1) Whose dick do I have to suck to get "Sei Yariman Sisters Pakopako Nikki" translated?
and
2) Barring that, how hard is the Japanese in the ORCSOFT eroge, and at what level would you recommend trying to get myself started reading VN/eroge, or should I start with easier things?
I'm mainly asking because I'm interested in the gyaru ero but nobody translate that shit.
>>
>>14729928
You would need to suck a large quantity of dicks, and then use that money to commission a professional translator to do it.
As for learning, it's obvious from your single post that you will never learn Japanese, so don't bother.
>>
>>14729931
Aight.

>As for learning, it's obvious from your single post that you will never learn Japanese, so don't bother.
Wow relax there, Mr. Holier-Than-Thou. I wasn't askin' for your hand in marriage there's no need to be snippy. Now I'm gonna learn just so I can bitch at you in moonrunes years from now.
>>
A bit of topic but is there a alternative to VNDB ?
I would like something more reliable since they keep deleting stuff they don't like.
>>
>>14730366
They are deleting stuff which is clearly not VNs. If you want to discuss non-VN video games, you can do it at appropriate board.
>>
>>14729887
They could always use some free advertising
>>
>>14729875
But Sekai Project wants the mainstream audience. There could be a patch that is totally not from them released though.
>>
>>14729566
WA2 confirmed.
>>
>>14730835
I'd be okay with Ushinawareta Mirai o Motomete.

No, its fuwalation doesn't count.
>>
Sekai's/Denpa's yuri game isn't even featured on their own site. How do they expect to sell their game when you can't even find it on their store? I'm sure they'll complain that no one buys r18 games too and use it as an excuse to not do them in the future.
>>
>>14730950
The game was sent to die, the biggest promotion the game will get is when it gets put on the front page of erogedownload.
>>
>>14729422
Ever17 was already licensed in English and had a typo-filled release.
>>
>>14731252
When the rights were owned by completely different people. It doesn't mean anything for the present situation.
>>
>>14730950
Yea they don't want to sell things. It is a Steam sale again, all-ages Fruit of Grisaia is 50% off again, probably the 4th time since it was added to Steam.

It is so hard to sell games for 400% the price of all-ages games. 18+ market is evil.
>>
I forgot to check. seems like root double made it, and march release date too, cant wait.
Also so when's Tokyo Babel, I hear its one of the good ones coming up too. How is that vn compared too all the big vns? you know baldr sky ,murmasa, ire, subhibi.
Also any fucking news about SubaHibi.
>>
Is Mangagamer going to announce any new games at Anime Boston?
>>
>>14732531
A few minor ones most likely. They save their good announcements for AX and Otakon.
>>
>>14732531
Last year they announced titles at: Anime Boston, Fanime, A-Kon, Anime Expo, and Otakon.

http://mangagamer.org/announcements/
>>
>>14732531
Probably some short nukige or maybe some random doujin game they got. Anime Boston never really gets big announcements.
>>
>>14727850
Don't know about that.
>>
>>14724967
Where's Bishoujo Mangekyou? It's at 25% already.

>>
>>14733329
It's hard to call it a translation. I mean, Japanese -> Finnish - > English. I presume even Google Translate would be more accurate.
>>
>>14734228
And this is assuming that the Finnish is even vaguely accurate.

Or that the guy going from Finnish to English is vaguely accurate.
>>
What takes JAST so long to edit Sumaga?
>>
>>14734439
No deadline. Don't need to make any money.

No care for customers.

No staff.
>>
>>14734228
But J->C->E is common as well, and I don't see anyone bitching about that.
>>
on steam for yurirei/kindred spirits, it says Full voice - Japanese even though its only partially voiced.

That should be fixed before the actual release or everybody is going to throw a tantrum.
>>
>>14734566
Hello Fuwanovel
>>
I've seen that Chaos;Child will be getting a PC release soon , is it also likely to get an english translation then?
>>
>>14734890
An official translation isn't likely to even get started for years. Jast have to release sonicomi, django and sumaga before nitro will even think of giving them something else to work on
>>
>>14734939
Chaos;Child has nothing to do with nitro tho.
>>
>>14734939
JAST isn't doing Science Adventure games ever again. 5pb will work with PQube again or self-publish it like they're apparently doing with Steins;Gate Steam.
>>
>>14729792
After Koichoco i don't know if i really want to read another sprite visual novel. Their artist is great but damn it's fucking boring.
>>
>>14732566
I hope MG is going to surprise us this year, except for the partnership with AliceSoft 2015 was pretty bad in terms of announcements.
>>
>>14735101
Are you actually saying that Himawari and Tokyo Babel aren't a big deal?
>>
>>14735286
Tokyo Babel definitely isn't. It's a mediocre, unremarkable chuunige with a low EGS score.
>>
>>14735101
> propeller and frontwing are pretty bad
Moebuta, pls.
>>
>>14734838
No need to go that far. Our friend Insem does it that way.
>>
>>14735313
>two of the worst propeller's games

>>
>>14734646
Does Steam even have a partially voiced option?
>>
>>14735291
>It's a mediocre, unremarkable chuunige with a low EGS score.
Have you played it? And EGS scores aren't that useful for all-ages games most of the time.
>>
>>14726940
You convinced me.
>>
>>14735629
>EGS scores aren't that useful for all-ages games
This. I played both Tokyo Babel and Ayakashibito and I wouldn't say there was any substantial difference in quality between them. Negai no Kakera is worse, but still worth checking.
>>
>>14735871
What about Sougeki no Jaeger? I saw people really shitting on that one.
>>
>>14735888
It was written by multiple writers who didn't coordinate well. That one is atrocious and I think its score actually reflects its quality. It's not enough to look at numbers, you need to see why people rated it the way they did.
>>
>>14735895
>if i agree with it, it's accurate
>if i don't, you can't trust it

okay
>>
>>14735903
Sougeki no Yeager is 18+. And if someone votes a game as being a 50 because "all ages into the trash", then that's not a good reason. If someone says they didn't think the story was coherent, and the plot and characters were all over the place so they rated it 30, then that makes sense.
>>
>>14735903
> 73/100 and 40/100 are totally same thing!11
okay
>>
>>14735928
Grrr. You wrestle that straw man! You can take him!
>>
>>14735928
>And if someone votes a game as being a 50 because "all ages into the trash", then that's not a good reason
But it is.
>>
>>14735957
In my experience, H-scenes in story vns where sex isn't a focus of the story mess up the pacing and usually suck. They can feel really out of place too, especially during battles and time sensitive storylines.
>>
>>14735291
> unremarkable chuunige with a low EGS score
Funny fact: Tokyo Babel has higher EGS score than Crono Clock, which moebutas like you and ChaosRaven hyped so much.
>>
>>14735979
But ChronoClock is new, has shiny art, H-scenes, and waifus, so even though the story is complete shit and the heroine routes are shallow, it must be game of the year!
>>
>>14735976
I read VNs for connection with characters. Sex is part of romance, so I want it to be there.
>>
>>14736031
Too bad 18+ story games usually sell like shit. Unless it has an all-ages version to be put on Steam, it's much less likely to be localized now. Cartagra, KnS2, and Gahkthun just exemplify that those games don't sell.
>>
>>14736055
I would say it is two different markets. The very small one that Cartagra covers is the market for people who want story with visuals. The other market is for people who want visuals with a story.

I guess in simple words it is ear candy vs eye candy.
>>
>>14734542
What is wrong with fucking jast, why are they the worst company now. they have fucking IP's but they don't do fucking shit. everyone else is making money but them. they didnt even put steins gate on steam.
>>
>>14734646

It says full audio, not full voice (which is technically true, it has music throughout). Steam doesn't have any partial options unfortunately.

Well jast is a shitty company so I wouldnt be surprised if people wanted to stop working with them.
>>
>>14736888

Jast has been doing this since the very beginning, it's not a new thing. Hell, I remember that under their Peach Princess label they managed to miss the 'little my maid' release by over 3 years, and that came out in 2004. They never have and never will give accurate release dates. I imagine they are either completely incapable of properly estimating projects, or perhaps just completely incompetent at managing them.

>>
>>14737589

They're also throwing most of their energy into games that can go on Steam. All the non-Steam stuff is going to get shafted extra hard for a while.
>>
>>14737535
The guy also translated Love At First Sight, so that should be the level of quality you expect.
>>
>>14729453
It only counts redeemed keys, and I never redeemed mine and I would be willing to bet that a few others didn't as well. I would add around a hundred, maybe two hundred, to steamspy numbers to account for non redeedmed keys.

But yeah, the only games to break 6,000 are Higurashi 1, Go Go Japan, Clannad and other 10 or less games. Even G-Senjou which is often half off hasn't reached 6,000 yet.

To be fair, Ixrec is a speed-translator and he happily releases stuff without a QC go-through. You get what you'd expect in sacrificing translation quality/accuracy for sheer speed.
>>
>>14738686
You lose a lot more translation quality and accuracy than accounts for that.
