I don't know if I even need more, I have enough to run exp 5 and 21 with 4 each, and fleet 4 is on permanent bucketfarm so they wouldn't really benefit from bringing daihatsus.
You'll get more eventually, it's not really something you can actively grind for. I think the highest chance for akitsumaru recipe is 7k 7k 7k 7k 100 devmats at ~10%.

Probably. When they implemented difficulty switching they put good equipment behind hard mode. They either didn't like this idea or the community responded poorly to it so in subsequent events they only put extra perishables like screws, medals and rations behind hard mode. This actually makes hard mode more of a status symbol because more casual players aren't required to try to complete hard mode for equipment and thus probably won't since you can collect all the girls on lower difficulties. The only real lasting benefit of clearing hard mode is the memedals. Hard mode is now only about challenging yourself.

The fleets' order of battle would have to be completely overhauled.
Let's say both sides bring CTF, and the day fight proceeds close to normal (aerial fight, escort fleets fight, main fleets fight) but the boss in the main fleet isn't sunk. Versus only an abyssal main fleet it's possible to have the escorts engage at night, but what about now? If the enemy escorts weren't wiped during the day fight, do they prevent the escorts from targeting the boss fleet? Would wiping out the escort fleet at night allow them to re-engage the boss fleet?
And what about STF vs CTF or vice versa? Would main fleets only get to fight the escorts? The whole reason to go STF is to put the big guns out first, but having them only shoot the small fry would be completely wasted.
And lastly, what about the new transport fleets?
There are so many questions that need to be answered.

Have two night battle phases. Your main fleet fights their escort fleet, and you need to sink enough ships to proceed to a second night phase where your escorts fight their main.
When they're using different fleet types, the fleets that would normally engage first fight each other, and the ones that would normally go last fight each other. The player has a big incentive to pick the type that gives a more favorable matchup, but that means they can give that type a tougher route so it becomes a difficult choice.
If you have a transport fleet, you just get fucked.
