I got caught up with idol stuff so I wanted to create something that involved idols and witches. The idol witches collect energy from their fans (like when fans have pen lights for their favorite girls at concerts) and use it for ??? .

Just try to make the face curves more rounded at the right places. Don't put too much shading near the eyes (especially at the bottom), it makes them look older.
And when the faces are at an angle move them more to the side they're facing or it looks like the jaw is going back into the neck
Also pay attention to which way both eyes are facing, the 2nd row is fine but the top left look like they're looking in different directions.

This is just how bad art looks in general, even from the Japanese. I don't really understand what makes it that look way from other bad actual Japanese art and bad art not imitating "Japanese style". I might want to use that Light Novel-style for some stories, but otherwise, I really do mean it when I say they're better meant for comics.
To name an example: One of the main stories I have been working is heavily inspired by Touhou, but injected with a ton of shounen-style fighting. It is basically what happens when you make a shounen fighting manga with Touhou as the main inspiration, because I'm a chuuni who unironically loves cheesy anime fights. The setting is also this crazy-as-hell Science Fantasy world that's basically hi-tech Ancient China and Feudal Japan (think Asura's Wrath, but with East Asian aesthetics instead of Indian). It is chuuni to the max. So chuuni it physically hurts. The main difference between other chuunishit is that this one has a bunch of girls in frilly dresses as the main characters and danmaku is used in the fights alongside melee combat.
This is kind of story that really only works in a moving medium. Like, yeah, I can describe people punching each other through mountains and throwing danmaku bullets that rip the terrain into mangled shreds, but it doesn't compare to actually seeing it through the medium of comics. This is a story without much text anyway--fighting manga aren't exactly known for their complex themes.
Hell, it was this exact story that prompted me to sit down and start the arduous road of getting writing skill! A few days ago I tried to write it, and the prose could not compare to the stuff in my head at all. Then I had kind of a meltdown and decided to take up drawing, because I had been putting it off for too long.
(But before that, I probably should work on the character design a little bit. The two MC's are based off of Reimu and Marisa to a fault. I love their designs, but they are just too close to ZUN's famous heroines)

Not really. As I said, it's basically Touhou and Asura's Wrath injected with a kiloton of chuuni shounen cheese.
The Touhou inspiration is evident in the setting, which is based off ancient Japan, and has youkai alongside humans. Most of the characters are girls, and they tend to wear elaborate dresses (due to all the acrobatics they must do, however, there are basically no long skirts and a lot more pants than Touhou). The main characters are a miko and an inventor magician; however, the miko character is the opposite of Reimu in every single way, and the magician character is an alchemist and a cyborg. Danmaku is used often in fights, and it's 2hu like danmaku with elaborate patterns. Incidents are also an actual thing in this setting.
From Asura's Wrath, on the other hand, comes a gigantic jump in power levels: pretty much everyone can blow apart mountains with their hands, and the more powerful characters can DBZ-levels of absurd strength. The setting itself is Science Fantasy with East Asian flair, unlike Gensokyo. There's shit like pagoda-skyscrapers, laser guns that look like Chinese repeating crossbows, robots based off of the famous Terracotta Army, flying battleships, etc. Houses are open-plan with sliding dividers and doors like traditional Japanese houses, but they're made of magitech glass and can be moved through the home's central computing system. At the same time, the world is feudal, split up into provinces ruled by shoguns...who just split them up into han and give them to their daimyou.
Also youkai are these weird kind of supernatural androids/gynoids, as strange as that sounds. Like Touhou youkai, they appear perfectly human (sometimes with nonhumans bits), but underneath their skins lie metal skeletons and bizarre magitech circuitry. You know, with so much thick lines making a color is really limited. When you look at it you can tell it's really flat and random. Use thinner lines and learn how to place shadows if you want to make good colored drawings.

This one is literally only made of flat colors so not really hard. The shading is the hardest part to learn, and you're still far from being at it. Take references from artists for renders and study shadows.
I was always doing like you with thick lines and flat colors before, pic is a few examples of colored stuffs I can do now. If you want to color it, avoid adding too much lines.

Skin is ill-looking, though. Too yellow/green, as if ZUN had colored it.
As a rule of thumb for the base skin tone, bump saturation to max and find a hue/lightness to your liking, more towards red/rose, or a very reddish orange if you want a more Asian tone.
