>>
>>14709127
The lack of a capital letter in the first post indicates a haste in making that post. I consequently theorize the following.

I shall first link this to the fact that the character you picked initially to represent you was the 'class rep', whom whilst by the nature of their job is to be outgoing in class, is often shown as strict and possibly even restricted in term of lifestyle, or to put in more colloquial terms, has a very boring lifestyle. Contrast this to the 'mystery boy' who's nature is given away merely by his title, and who subsequently is likely far more popular as an individual, them you arrive at an answer that you immediately picked the character that actually represented you the best in real life, as opposed to the one that you inspire to be due to their cool, collected nature and popularity.

This level of reasoning is possible for A Guy with too much time on his hands. What do you think, everyone?

1. All anime trope characters look alike. "A shrine maiden with black hair" isn't any level of similarity.

2. It's a doujin game. It has lots of homages to Higurashi, Umineko, Steins;Gate, etc. For example, the "Paranoia Virus" plot or "Giant Time Bomb" plot with a "Witch" as the featured role.

But yeah, Tragedy Looper is basically "When They Cry: The Board Game." And it's awesome, too. I've been thinking of making a fan expansion for it with the actual Higurashi or Umineko characters/locations/plots.

>>

Yasu was already the head of the Ushiromiya family since it was in charge of the gold.
>>
>>14717555
It's pretty much stated that it is Shannon (Sayo) in Part 7, and it is strongly hinted that Kanon is just made up.

>>14717625
Yasu wasn't a maid, he was just pretending to be one while in actuality being the Lord of Rokkenjima. At least that's how I justified it.
>>
>>14717634
>>14717635
Oh, I actually never thought of that. That makes a lot of sense
>>
>>14717625
The culprit of Rokkenjima Prime was Kyrie and Rudolf
>>
>>14717641
Plenty of interesting things to discover on a reread. For example end of ep 4 where Battlers existance is being denied in red. The part where he says ange is my sister, I should have realised that ange being Kyrie's daughter, then means that Battler is Kyrie's daughter, but instead ange tells us its not about blood, but about bonds(which is bullshit) and I end up accepting that.

As well as how ange was able to revive sakutarou for Maria in the golden land. Call me slow, but I never caught these things on my first read.
>>
>>14717643
Even though it was stated in red, it could possibly mean it was true for that specific kakera. But I'm not one to be contrarian so I believe that that kakera makes sense for the outcome of 1998
>>
>>14717661
Have you read the manga? They show Ange reading the book in Episode 8, so it's pretty much confirmed
>>
>>14717708
Do they now? Shit.
>>
>>14717655
Yeah, looking back on it I missed so many clues, especially in Episode 1 and 2. It's pretty impressive how well Ryukishi planned everything
>>
>>14717719
The manga shows pretty much everything. I think the only part that isn't explained straight-out is the logic error in Episode 6
>>
There's something I've been wondering about for a while. How did Yasu know that Ange would be absent? The only explanations I can think of are
1: She just assumed Ange would be sick again, since she was known to have bad health

or 2: She bribed either Rudolf or Kyrie or both beforehand, and they told her. However, that would make them accomplices in every game, which seems kind of unlikely
>>
>>14717866
We only saw 2 games made by yasu, we can therefore speculate that we only saw games where yasu prepared for ange being sick
>>
>>14717876
I guess that's possible, but in the part of the manga where she plans the murders, and states her reasons for wanting to kill each of them, Ange is the only one that isn't mentioned at all. It's a little strange
>>
>>14717641
Even if that wasn't the case, Will deliberately witheld some of the other rules. Using all of them would destroy the gameboard as Umineko adheres to Knox rather than Van Dine.
>>
>>14717892
Yeah, but Rule 11 is one of the few rules he actually says in red. But you could argue that it doesn't count, since it was outside of a game
>>
>>14717892
I would argue that Umineko mostly follows Van Dine's rules, the only rules it breaks as far as I can see are 3, 12, 16 and, to an extent, 17 and 18
>>
>>14717976
And I guess you could argue it doesn't break Rule 12, depending on what you define as a "minor helper or co-plotter"

I want to read Higurashi, since Hotarubi is going to have expys to that and it's the only ryu07 thing I have yet to read.

Should I just read the 'restored' version? I prefer the old sprites for Umineko, but Higurashi's giant ball hands are so funny that I'm worried it might break serious moments.
>>
>>14721128
They worked for me. First chapter was a little silly while I got used to it, but just like seacats sprites, I started to enjoy the originals.
>>
>>14721128
Just go with the one you prefer, it doesn't really matter that much in the end. Personally I like the PS2/PS3 sprites better
>>
>>14721247
This. Whichever one you choose, you'll find flaws with it in the beginning but as you go on you'll become accustomed to them.
>>
>>14721128
I'd recommend the original sprites. They might look odd at first, but you'll get used to it. They're much more expressive, which enhances the experience.

I originally played Umineko with the original sprites. Then I went back and played Higurashi, and tried to use the sprite patch...but just couldn't. I had to go back to the original sprites by the 2nd arc. It just wasn't the same.
>>
>>14721438
That's precisely why I asked.
Umineko with new sprites, even on a reread, just isn't the same.

I know it sounds as retarded as "The voices were better in the manga" arguments, but really, bad sprites make it so you fill in the blanks. Having perfect character pictures and a different background image for every scene makes imagination take a dive and takes away all the magic.
>>
>>14719817

There's also one for Higurashi already on BGG. Higurashi translates even easier since all the locations are the same. The tricky part for me in Umineko is the locations. I was thinking:

Mansion
Rose Garden
Guest House
Kuwadorian (or Chapel?)

BTW, could you post the template here? I'd like to do an Umineko/Higurashi retheme where the characters actually have new abilities.
>>
Let's play a game.

RED
There is a street of houses.
In each house lives a person with a different nationality.
These five owners drink a certain type of beverage, smoke a certain brand of cigar and keep a certain pet.
No owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same beverage.
The question is: Who owns the fish?

the Brit lives in the red house
the Swede keeps dogs as pets
the Dane drinks tea
the green house is on the left of the white house
the green house's owner drinks coffee
the person who smokes Pall Mall rears birds
the owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill
the man living in the 3rd house drinks milk
the Norwegian lives in the first house
the man who smokes blends lives next to the one who keeps cats
the man who keeps horses lives next to the man who smokes Dunhill
the owner who smokes BlueMaster drinks beer
the German smokes Prince
the Norwegian lives next to the blue house
the man who smokes blend has a neighbor who drinks water

I'll also throw in a present for you.

The German doesn't own the fish.
ENDRED

Come at me jaypee!
>>
>>14721694
Just a question, is the Green house near to the white one or just on a position to the left of it?
>>
>>14721712
Not sure where you're going with this but.
RED
The green house is adjacent to the white house.
ENDRED
>>
>>14721785
I also have a question, just to clarify. All the houses are in a straight line from 1-5, right?
>>
Which Stakes would be in your harem based on your own sins? I get Belphegor and Satan.
>>
>>14721860
All of them, except Lucifer
>>
>>14721856
RED
All the houses are in a straight line
ENDRED
>>
>>14721694
It's stupid, but I guess the answer has to be that noone owns the fish. The riddle is the same as the original, so if the German doesn't own it, then noone can. The German owns a different animal not specified in the riddle, and none of them own the fish
>>
>>14721888
RED
Someone on that street, in that line of houses owns a fish.
ENDRED

HORAHORA
>>
>>14721901
Not that anon, but are you sure you got it right?
I keep getting that only the german can have the fish
>>
>>14721915
While you could argue that I messed up a little with one line in the explanation, it should still be possible if you put your imagination to use.

I'll post the answer if no one gets it eventually.
>>
>>14721932
I did it all again from scratch and I keep arriving to the same solution
1.-Norway Yellow Dunhill Water Cats
2.-Blue Dane Horses tea Blend
3.-Brit red Milk Pall mall birds
4.-Green German Coffee Prince FISH
5.-White Swede dogs master beer

I give up
>>
>>14721944
That's the only possible answer. Unless the houses are in a different formation, like a circle, or it's a wordplay, like the one I proposed, that can only be the answer. If this actually is solvable then I'm completely lost
>>
>>14721694
Now that you've said that there's a screwup somewhere in the explanation, I think I have an idea.
State the following in red
'There are only 5 people on this street'
>>
>>14721979
I also have another idea. It's probably wrong, but I'll just try it to be sure

Say in red that each person can only own one animal
>>
Has R07 ever gone into any detail about things like the Senate of Witches or the SSVD? Or is he just going to let those concepts just rot until whenever.
>>
>>14721979
If that's the answer, then wasn't my solution kind of right? >>14721888
>>
>>14721979
>>14722083
But if that's the case then he messed it up, since the riddle says
>These five owners
>>
>>14721461

>>14722279
It would have been just fine if you had removed the "five" part. Make sure to read trough it more carefully before posting next time

I'll fix this shit. The riddle specifies that there are five people living on a street. But what if the German had a visitor from America? >>
>>14722509
Yes but you'll still have a far better experience with the VN, and I say that as someone who collects the books.

The best thing Umineko has to offer in my opinion is the immersion created primarily by not knowing what will happen next, the stellar soundtrack, and the depth of detail the characters thoughts are expressed in. While the manga are certainly great, they naturally don't offer you a soundtrack and about three quarters of the characters thoughts are cut out. This detracts you from both the world and the characters, and since emotions displayed towards scenes in stories are directly proportional to how invested you are as a person into the characters lives and livelihood, this consequently removes much of the impact certain scenes will have on you as a reader. Furthermore, you certainly won't know what will happen when reading the manga and will certainly be surprised at twists, however obviously this is a one off thing and if you decide to read the VN after it will also be ruined due to prior knowledge of twists.

Ergo you should either read the VN first then the manga, or just avoid both, make a note to come back to them someday when you actually have time, and thank me later.

Yeah, that's what the manga says as well. Erika thought Kanon was preparing her room

And while we're on it, why did they refer to Shannon as X in this scene? It was really obvious that they were talking about her, and they even showed her being the culprint in Episode 7
>>
>>14727704

The unreliable narrarator thing had me incredibly confused. I assumed that you just couldn't trust anything Battler didn't see, but as soon as he saw Kinzo prancing around in End of the Golden witch I lost it. Of course the answer was obvious as he was just Lambda's piece at that point. I love how the manga really utilizes it in that scene, even if it makes the answer obvious.

Kyrie's the ideal partner for life, both as a relationship and a partner in crime.

Natsuhi is the ideal oldschool supportive housewife that'll make you welcome home after a long day of work.

Rosa is probably an incredible shag. Pump and dump, but dump immediately or you risk her catching up to you and fucking your shit up.

What
>>
>>14730912
The thing about Kyrie is that if she loves you, you can confide in her fully about anything and she'll support you. Unless it somehow spurs her jealousy then you might be fucked.
>>
>>14730942
Did you even read Umineko? Eva is repeatedly shown to honestly love Hideyoshi and doesn't insult him once, even with biased narrators. Speaking of which, when she is shown without bias in one of the stories after Umineko, she clearly tries to get along with Ange despite what happened previously. Regardless of whether you interpret Eva's love of her family to wealth or not, at least she would get to know you before blowing you off. Kyrie wouldn't even allow you to get close to her unless she had something she wanted from you. She literally murdered over half the cast including slicing Maria's throat open for extra gold.
>>
>>14731044
Yet kyrie never betrayed Rudolf. Her whole character is based on unconditional love for him.

Eva is a control freak, if its not her way then it's no way. You ignore her rokkenjima attitude way too much in favour of her implied lovelyness off screen.
>>
>>14731064
Inner characteristics say more than outer. Kyrie's reality is psychopathic just like her sister. Eva is more of a caring person. All of the adults have the flaws of greed, which is what led to the massacre in the first place. What actually matters is their inner selves.
>>
>>14731077
I'd rather have a computer like Kyrie than a box of matches like Eva
>>
>>14731064
Kyrie on the island states that she would kill Rudolf too if necessary. I'm not saying that Eva's a saint but I still believe she's more warmhearted than Kyrie.

Excerpt from Umineko Ep.5 Book 2 Review:
>Perhaps the first clue we get that this is going to be literary analysis rather than a mystery narrative is when Erika, the obnoxious teen detective Bernkastel has inserted into the story, begins to crow about third-rate mystery novels and begins reeling off names of well-known classic books featuring serial killers. On the one hand, it is nice to see Ryukishi07 finally acknowledge the source I've been accusing him of relying on the entire time, Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, but it also serves as a warning that things are about to get metafictional on Rokkenjima. That fear is confirmed when a new character is introduced, Dlanor A. Knox. Canny readers will have noticed that this is a sad rearrangement of the letters of English priest Ronald Knox, who created the ten rules that all (Golden Age) murder mysteries must follow. Continuing the parallel, Dlanor is garbed like a severely under-dressed clergyman, with keys making up a cross design on her cap, and is declared an Inquisitor, a punisher of witches. While we can see that Ryukishi07 is attempting to dramatize what is basically a debate about how mysteries ought to run and be told, his attempt to fetishize Knox's Commandments as a cute loli with a useless ruffle on her crotch just smacks of pandering

Do you agree, /jp/?
>>
>>14731737
Is that the same bitch that wrote this?
>As for Umineko When They Cry...when the series began, it was an interesting mystery with many possible solutions, inspired by some of the greats of mystery fiction. Now? When author Ryukishi07 decided to give Knox's Commandments (ten guidelines for mystery writers) a moe personification, that was it. All along the author had been taking a supercilious tone in his commentaries and using Beatrice as his voice in the story, but with the most recent story arc to see English translation, “The End of the Golden Witch,” the plot has gone from an intriguing mystery to flat-out obnoxious as Ryukishi07 tries to taunt readers with his increasingly silly devices and annoying characters. Had this stuck to actually following Knox's Commandments instead of making then fanservice, it might have been a worthwhile read for mystery buffs. But the farther Umineko strays from its genre roots, the less interesting it is. Maybe a better analogy than “train wreck” would be that Ryukishi07 jumped the tracks entirely and is just running his train in circles on the grass, his head out the window while he crows about how awesome he is.

ANN is a good news source, but their reviews are pretty bad
