Strange, I re-read that just a few days ago. It kinda makes me sad that I'll never get to go exploring in Japan like that.

Kinda unrelated but does anyone know of any sites that do translations for scary stories from 2ch and/or other japanese sites?
I really enjoyed kisaragi station and wouldn't mind reading other stories like that.
>>
>>14595464
Just learn Japanese.
>>
>>14595464
>It kinda makes me sad that I'll never get to go exploring in Japan like that.

Why not? I live in Japan now, if I could do it, why can't you?
>>
>>14595888
Because I'm a NEET and I've been one for years now. I never went to highschool and I never plan on doing so. I've never worked and never will. I live with my parents and surely will until I kill myself.
I don't get autism bux even though I probably qualify but it's too much of a pain to go through the steps to get it.

Basically there's no way I'll ever have enough money to go there even for a short trip and there's no way in hell I'll ever teach english there. Putting aside my utter lack of qualifications, there's no way I could do it due to anxiety/general mental issues.

It probably sounds like I'm giving up before trying or that I "don't care enough about it to work for it" but that's basically my life. Sorry for rambling.
>>
Enjoyable read. Thanks OP.
>>
>>14596195
you should enlist in the army
>>
>>14596528
Why the hell would I do that?

Think of it this way.
If you're going to kill yourself anyway you might as well blow everything you got to fly somewhere you want to see, experience it, then go jump into the ocean.
>>
>>14596549
>blow everything you got to fly somewhere

Where can I go with the $219.30 in my bank account? That's literally all the money I have and I only have that much because mommy gave me money at christmas.

Also there's nowhere I particularly want to go apart from Japan.
>>
>>14596540
dunno, you'll get stronger and get to know how to survive in a deadly place
you don't want to have fun before dying? I mean you already do but learning new things is pretty fun to me
>>
>>14596569
I'm sure you can get to the nearest freight port with that much money. From there, simply smuggle yourself on one of the larger cargo ships (make sure it actually goes to Japan by inconspicuously asking crew members). Don't forget to bring food rations and drink for at least two weeks of open sea though. Good luck!
>>
>>14596569
You're not offing yourself any time soon, are you? Save up.

>>14596586
As someone who went from military to NEET, don't do military.
>>
>>14596595
>don't do military.
well either i do shitty jobs for 9 years (unless very lucky) or either i enlist in the army in 1 year
what's so wrong about the military? i have no goal in life so i might as well train to be a soldier

i mean right now i can't even run 50 meters without being exhausted and i'm not even overweight (quite the opposite)
>>
army doesn't take warm bodies anymore, they reject you based on any mental illness instantly
>>
Thanks OP for sharing!

I had a good time reading it while listening to the music you recommended.
>>
>>14596549
Not the same anon you replied to, but what if you chicken out?
Somehow you get sent back, maybe relatives have to pay your travel expenses and you soon realise you are back in the same shit and it's only worse, especially if you don't have any more cash at all.
It's also a stupid, mixed feeling.
You are thinking about how it doesn't matter anymore, but you are still doing it and when you realise that you are having fun you're also soon reminded of that in a few hours/days you will kill yourself?

>>14595277
Thanks for the link OP, it was an enjoyable read.
At first it did gave me a faint desire to try it too, but then I thought about how I sadly could not see the beauty in some abandoned train stations in my country, especially when they are full of vulgar graffiti, cigarette buds and trash.
Furthermore, I don't want to be mugged by some villager gypsies.

>>14597085
you're welcome anons! I'm glad that you all enjoyed it as much as I did.
I wish could be able to find cool places from where I live. The transportation system here is really dry and even if I drive myself somewhere far away, I doubt I'll find anything like that in this desert. Shinitai.

I listen to lots of slow guitar music when I do my walk. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eUh7Eg-qus&list=PL-SqXgiadf0UbOkEENoEBkK5E5XmXNfaP [Embed]

Do you have any other similar stories to share?
>>
>>14595277
Thank you so sharing that story OP. It was really enjoyable.
>>
>>14597340
I was still under the effect of this story so I looked around today for similar opportunities.
I could get on a train and go to a neighbor country, it wouldn't even be that expensive.
However, upon searching for some photos and checking some street views on google maps, it's pretty much the same as here.
Guess a 200-250km distance isn't far away enough to encounter a more intense change.

Anyway, as the guy said in the story, some people got off from the train, made some photos and went back with him on the next one.
He thought them to be train otakus, but that got me thinking, shouldn't the train otaku be even more enthusiastic? Or is it just "been there, saw that" for them?
This guy had a better adventure and made more use of his time given the circumstances.
>>
Just going off into a way like that, just to explore, was fun in Japan. Have to do that more next time around.
>>
>>14601506
Do it!

And then post here and share your stories.
>>
>2012
>>
>>14596549
You shouldn't kill yourself in another country really. I mean that's going to be a lot of paperwork and shit for some Japanese guy.
>>
>>14595888
You're an english teacher, right? For most that's not an option
>>
>>14608512
Why not?
>>
>>14608704
I, for one, do not come from a country with english as the first language. IIRC jap schools only want native english speakers
>>

I liked this diary.
There's nowhere to go in Florida, because there is no way to get to the train station.
I've rode the train once in my life, from Fort Lauderdale to Miami. There was a lot of beautiful graffiti.
>>
>>14608889
On my only train ride halfway through some grandma got on and sat right next to me because of assigned seating. She used the complimentary WiFi to snap chat with her grandkids every 20 minutes or so.

After a while I realized that the ticket takers didn't care, so I got up and sat in the back of the train for the final hour in seats that probably were more expensive because of the extra legroom.

All in all it was very peaceful, especially the parts without the grannies sitting next to me as I read K-On. Though I have yet to experience VIP quality comfiness.

>>14608889
Why is America's public transportation system so horrible? Trains are an everyday kind of thing in Europe.
>>
It's eerie how much bumfuck nowhere is Hokkaido looks like bumfuck nowhere in Pennsylvania.
>>
>>14609383
america has awful infrastructure, maybe since people in power resist doing anything that doesn't exclusively help rich people
>>
>>14609383

Because in the 1930s the automobile industries decided to create brand new paved roads, and highways were developed by the government as work for people during the depression.

Back then public transportation was good. The automobile industries made good on their word to revitalize shit (look up the GM streetcar conspiracy) and created fleets of quiet, clean, efficient buses. We actually have a very good bus transportation system when it comes to long-distance travel, but not enough people use it. And city buses aren't anywhere near that standard.
>>
>>14609383
Ignoring the out-and-out conspiracy theories:
- Lower population density and greater distances between major population centres
- Policy choices such as the creation of the Interstate highway system (in the U.S.) and the Trans-Canada Highway
- Relative affordability of gasoline
- Car ownership promoted by trends in dwelling choice (more home ownership in suburbs, less condo rental/apartment rental/property ownership close to centres of employment)
- Relative weaknesses of public transit system

All of this also means that there is more incentives for continuing policies geared toward maintaining the suburban/automobile lifestyle because few people like politicians who disrupt the current state of affairs (Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was originally elected because his predecessors favoured public transit over automobiles; he promised to end the "war on the car")

The two big deciding factors though are population density and cost of fuel. Combined there is very little incentive for people to ride trains when intercity buses cost less because of those factors. I'm >>14609325 and I primarily chose the train because the departure times were more convenient than what the major bus companies offered. That meant I had to pay a premium for train travel: my ticket cost $60 and the same trip on a greyhound would have cost $25. Of course trains will always beat buses and planes in terms of comfort and being able to masturbate to JK porn in the on-board restroom.
>>
>>14609383
Some day I'll move to the Czech Republic.
Some day.
>>
>>14610374
>Ignoring the out-and-out conspiracy theories:

Oh I didn't mention the streetcar conspiracy because I believe in it. I just mentioned it because regardless the streetcar system was dismantled and replaced with buses, which was something people wanted because the streetcars were dirty, noisy, and barely worked.
>>
>>14611099
Well, I imagine that there's *maybe* a kernel of truth to the streetcar conspiracy. The evidence suggests, perhaps, that the big auto companies saw an existing trend that had public support and decided to just accelerate the process by buying up track themselves in some cases (instead of waiting around for local governments to do the job).

I think we're getting a tad off track here though, since the post-war migration to the suburbs (which was a big driving force behind North America's doption of a car/highway centered society) would have happened regardless of whether cities relied on trams or buses for commuter transit.

Koboro station looks like one of those places you use to hide a body.

I mean as long as you go in the opposite direction of the beach, who's gonna stumble upon it?

>I thought JET program accept you as long as you have a degree.

Not him but, that seems to be a really low benchmark for teaching English to the future of the country...
>>
>>14613040
Have you ever seen a Japanese poster on 4chan who could speak English?
They don't want to learn English, and that's fine. I don't really care if anyone in the world chooses not to learn English, as long as they refrain from immigrating to English-speaking countries.
>>
>>14613063
Just look at /int/ and /pol/'s archives.
>>
>This feeling, it’s just like being a healthy suntanned countryside high-school girl!
What a perfect fit and picture.

I don't know but I'll see what I can pull from this site.

here's one with 2ch anon going to Europe.

and one in Cambodia

>>
>>14619534
4chan needs threads like these.
>>
>>14619559
/tv/ rarely has some similar thread but if you want something orderly like 2ch, 4chan's mentality probably won't allow it. Let alone majority of active posters here are Europoor.
>>
>>14619599
The majority of posters on 4chan are Americans, though.
Though being American makes travel even more difficult.
I'd make a thread like those but it'd literally just be the fake forest in between the suburbs, since I have no car. That's not /int/ or /trv/ or /jp/ material.

I wouldn't mind going on a trip to some secluded area where I live. Don't know if anyone else would be interested though, since it's not Japan.
>>
>>14619663
Do it, please. If you do it, I'll find a way to improve and do it better. This will help all of us have better days.
>>
>>14619654
This, I hate this shithole city, CA has a few good spots but I doubt there's anything hidden since it'll bound to be filled with tourist. I can stop at some random place near the beach, but I doubt I'll find anything interesting.

>>14619663
let us know anon!
>>
>>14619654
>The majority of posters on 4chan are Americans, though.

If I still lived back east I could easily take a trip to the middle of nowhere in Penn. Like I said in >>14609414, they look very similar and have a very abandoned feel. Like there were people there, but they're gone now.
>>
>>14619663
I would unless you live somewhere exceptionally boring. I've considered googling secluded places near me but I'd have to drive there and it wouldn't look as cool as the overgrown forest style places in other parts of the world. Best I'd find is probably some run down touristy thing or a mission or something.

>>14619717
Hey I'm CA too. San Bernardino area doesn't have shit from what I've seen, the best I get is driving to a smallish patch of trees in a canyon nearby with some railroad tracks and watching the trains go by.
>>
>>14595277
This is great, thank you, anon.

I want to go on an at least a 2 months long sabbatical next year, go up to north Japan, buy a bike and explore the countryside. Too bad that I can already see that going back to work after such experience will make me want to jump in front of a train.

Samefag here.
Actually, I've been looking at Croatia too, but as I've said, I can't see anything truly different or special in a 200km radius and I don't have the money to go all the way to the sea.
I see many of you have the same desire, but let's be honest guys, we wouldn't really care much for a non-japanese landscape.
The main point of the 2ch OP's story was that it invoked an interest in us to try something similar (if, we were in Japan).
But I guess most of you know either way how the surrounding areas are for you and since none of us rushed out, I presume it's rather boring.
Besides, it would have nothing to do with /jp/ either, so linking from here to /trv/ is all we could do.
And then what? Post pictures of a small city or a forest? Most of us can see that any time close by.
There's also the lack of motivation and a specific goal.
2ch OP knew he would go to Koboro station, to look at the unique station and went on from there.
Now what about us, just pick out a village randomly? Chances are you won't see anything special there and even if you venture into the nearby wilds, you're lucky if you see an abandoned chapel at best. Meh.
