I guess it depends on your lifestyle. Ex38 is far more efficient for fuel while for bauxite 11 or 35 are straight up better overnight despite being shorter. 9 hours is too long for me, whenever I wake up in 8.5 hours or less, ex36 would be resulting in loss of resources.

Just send out exp36 earlier before you sleep. It's more efficient at that point to return 480 fuel by sending them out earlier than to run 38 once you sleep for 420. In terms of minmaxing fuel expeditions that extra half hour in your example time isn't enough to squeeze in any of exps 21, 5, or 38 anyway.

I mean, you could run ex2 or ex6. I think ex24 is outright superior to ex36 because it fulfills my conditions (8h20m), gives more fuel and with additional ex6 gives more bauxite and it also has built in chance of great success if you bring drums while having laxer requirements. While I'm at that, ex38 has base 50% GS rate meaning it's either 420 or 630, average 525 fuel. It's also easier to guarantee GS with just four ships.
But now that I think about it, I'm probably against ex36 mostly because I prefer sending Mizuho to ex35 which gives 40% more bauxite. Getting fuel is super easy during day with Orel and 5/21/38.

I usually run both 38 and 36 overnight so comparing the two is moot. Then again, I'm in no need of baux since I have Taihou so spamming buckets during the day and fuel at night is my priority. So in the end it's really just a matter of what each of us need more.

Didn't make it any easier, actually. Bringing ABKM gave you a torp but cost you daytime DA as well as 2 hotel planes' worth of LoS. It was before chevrons so even with 2 saiun and 2 hotel planes you could still get thrown off so you needed a sub to carry planes. Before chevrons were a thing if you brought ABKM instead of Ooyodo you were just asking for trouble.

According to the tests, 60 is the actual cap. I recently brought my Lady to 52 luck so one more Maruyu to finish the soup is all I need at the moment.
Flagship with mixed cut-in seems to have cap at 70 or more but that is only a realistic setup for CAs.

You can use single Maruyu at a time. With Kai there's 60% of her giving two luck, worth it when you don't have perfect numbers. That's how I got Akatsuki from 50 to 52. I don't remember how it went exactly but I got 7 points during Summer because I had to fix up her luck (35-> 42) to fight Antizuki and was running out of slots from E5 farm.

There's nothing you >need< if we get technical but that way of thinking doesn't lead anywhere. I always take AP Shell and two good CVs, you can have both. If I want to gimp my fleet I use weaker ships but I'll always give them optimal setups.

Yes, that's also what I was talking about. With Sanshiki you have pathetic ~50% chance of DA. With AP Shell you have ~70% chance of strong special attack. If your BB does single attack, it's very likely Ta will survive in chuuha or shouha depending on engagement or armor roll. Cut-in always kills or at worst disables her (in case of hankousen and bad armor roll). Single attack is also less accurate.
With chevrons, AP Shell's strength is even clearer because there's higher chance our BB will target opposing BB since more trash dies. APCI is also superior to Sanshiki vs boss in day battle (crit cut-in in pic).
AP gives advantage in first node, third node and day battle with boss. Sanshiki is better in yasen vs boss. I don't have problems choosing.

That's the only point that applies to Kancolle, but I'm not sure it's very relevant for casualness. World class chess definitely doesn't looks casual and players don't need that.
So yeah, no game is casual or not, it all depends on how deep you want to play it. There's nothing wrong with being casual mind you, if you don't want to spend time ranking or fiddling with the theory to optimize the shit out of your compo it's alright.

Just reading the wiki for half hour gives all the info you'll need. You can check it later for doubs, and the hidden mechanics are just a bit of minmaxing that you don't really need that bad.

Fair point, but unless you play chess casually, you'll need a lot of memorization and quick decision making. You don't need that for KanColle.

There's a new mechanic roughly every event and 4 events per year.
Though the appeal of the game didn't really changed, so if you didn't like it 2 years ago it's doubtful a couple new gimmicks will get you back in.
