And next question is “how to make pretty teenage girl friend”? I have never had such a thing so I am puzzled. But generally speaking, it is the same as mahjong. In the movies, novels, and cartons, people say “I love you forever” but it is full of lies. Same as how Japanese adult videos are fake.

In mahjong, an each sides waiting is better than a kanchan waiting and a 3 sides waiting is better than an each side waiting. Making a girlfriend is the same. The higher the number of winning tiles, the easier the win.

When you write “pretty girlfriend” it implies that you try to pass on any other potential girlfriends. When you face any situation to win, you just say “Ron!”(declaration of win) like mahjong. It is a fundamental skill of mahjong. Housewife in her thirties or whatever, you just accept it. You can get points from any person. Someday you can win with a pretty teenage girlfriend. Important things are speed, perfect escaping, and rate of winning. Use stealing moderately and get 1000 points girlfriend, 8000 points girlfriend riding on the flow.

Shimocha's hand was 45m234577p334s. He should've discarded 2p instead of 3s for the widest iishanten. If he had done so, lower pinzu wouldn't appear quite as dangerous as it did, though it still was a dangerous area nonetheless.

I think I just had my best game ever. I felt bad I didn't win the last hand even though I was in tenpai already, but the fact that I got this close to defeating someone that had a yakuman from way down is so satisfying. http://tenhou.net/0/?log=2015122922gm-0089-0000-44b71d32&tw=3

Widest just means that it has more ukeire. Ukeire are the tiles you can use to decrease your shanten.
>How is early game tile efficiency different?
What do you mean?
>Isn't 134 worse than 349 because the 1 is redundant?
Nope. If you draw the 2 you end up with 1234, and that 4 is a useful tile. With tile efficiency, you should first consider ukeire, then hand shape. If the ukeire are the same, discard the tile that has the least potential to develop into a good waiting shape.

If you're angry, take a break. Anger can trick you into thinking the flow owes you something in future matches just because it hasn't been kind to you in the previous matches. You'll probably lose more since you're more likely to gamble because of that sense of entitlement.

If you're not angry, you can continue and you'll probably still lose anyway since you suck at mahjong.

Same, I haven't won in over 50 matches. I've gotten second place a ton, I've been in first up until south 4 multiple times, I was even in Kokushi riichi earlier today. It is true, a have gotten a couple of wins but they were right when I started playing and since then I've been on a losing streak
>>14548047
I can get second place in most games (previously I held at about 50% second place rate), however in doing so I basically forfeit any chance of winning and I really want to win at least a couple of games so I can get a rank.

My stats have actually been going down recently as I've been playing riskier in order to try to get a "lucky victory" however it so far hasn't worked out (hence why my newer, firefox scores are worse)
>>
>>14548074
Your deal-in rate is far too high, you should work on fixing your defense.

If I try to defend then I never gain high scoring hands and get stuck with a very mediocre score giving me second or sometimes third place. I can't seem to defend while also winning decent value hands
>>
>>14548086
Play for pinfu most of the time. Pinfu can get a high value surprisingly easily with riichi and since you don't need to open your hand and can keep terminals and honour tiles for your pair it is also decent defensively. Just play for pinfu and start to defend when someone declares riichi and you are not at least in tenpai with a decent wait or in isshanten while in a bad place with a good hand. Play for open tanayo if your hand is quick and has at least 1 dora/red five.

I agree with this strategy. Sometimes it's better not to declare richii since they'll (should) be on their guard after that.

My 2-dan account had horrid stats, so I made this account two days ago. The aforementioned strategy is the one I usually use. Since you and I are currently in general lobby, I would say this is very likely to work since everyone there is way agressive.

If you haven’t thought about it, every time you deal a tile, you are losing in several parallel universes where the mathematically ‘wrong’ tiles come in. When you keep a 45m and ditch a 89m wait, one time in three you will draw the 7m and rage. Every time you cut those tiles you are essentially making a decision to lose 1/3 of those games if it means you will win the rest. Because you can’t win them all.

You do realize that R is mostly independent of the R of the people you play with, right? That is literally what it was developed for. If anything it's easier to increase your R against people who are about on the same level as you, not worse ones.
Also 2nd dan is extremely easy to obtain, much easier than 1700+ R, because all you need to do is play a certain number of games. You don't lose enough points on a loss that anyone who has at least a slight idea what he is doing could fail at this with sufficient games. That is one of the reasons why Dan sucks compared to R.
Also
>Moving the goalpost
>>
>>14552700
>Dan sucks compared to R

So if I achieve R1800 before hitting the 1st dan then never play in L0 again does that make me better than a player who is, say, 3-dan and R1750?
>>
>>14552700
>R is mostly independent of the R of the people you play with
Rate changes are calculated based on the average rate of the table.

What he probably meant by being at least 2d is that rate changes slower when you have more games played, so it's a lot more impressive to have a good rate with more games played. I was almost 1900 early on in my L0 career.
>>
>>14552720
Difficult to estimate. However, what makes this difficult is not the thr 3rd dan of the other player, but the fact he has likely played more games like >>14552806 says. Obviously the more games you have played the more accurate your R becomes. Though you could also argue that an R of 1800+ before first dan is even more impressive than an R of 1800+ at 3rd dan, because achieving a higher R earlier requires a better average placement. It is just generally difficult to compare players whos number of games differs greatly if one of the players has less than ~400 games. However, if two players have about the same number of games R is a better estimation than dan.
