Found someone's daughter locked up in a glass box in Akihabara
>>
Person from the last thread who was buying their first doll reporting back. Wound up buying the Illiya. Very happy that I bought a doll, especially after having seen the Akiba dd showroom (and the azone one because it's under it, though less impressive.). At 145k all in and some fairly bad black stains on the schoolgirl set stockings I'm still not completely sure I wouldn't have been happier spending the extra 100k on other doll stuff but either way I'm still overall happy I took the plunge. Thanks to various anons for the advice.
>>
How do you explain your dolls to guests?

Serious question.
>>
>>14539786
Congrats, anon! Post pictures, we'd love to see your new family member!

Also, are the stains right on the stockings themselves (not the doll)? If so, you can try bleaching those out. If worst comes to worst, replacing socks like those shouldn't be too hard.

Thankfully just on the stockings and yeah my thought was they'd be fairly replaceable if I have to. The doll is still sealed (nib) and I plan to keep it that way till I get back to my home country. I'm a little time limited right now but I'll post a potato picture of the box in a minute.

The one time I brought a girl home and she saw the doll collection (2 at the time), she was intimidated by them.

The dolls were in an expensive glass cabinet with lights installed inside and wearing well made clothing. They looked like expensive collectible/art.

She actually complained that the dolls made her uncomfortable since they represent an unrealistic standard of beauty for a regular woman to measure up against. I thought that was funny since the girl had a thing for Leonardo DeCaprio and would mention him frequently in our everyday conversation.
>>
>>14539826
I believe congratulations are in order, Illya is a cutie. I've wanted a MDD for a while but haven't gotten around to getting one.
>>

>unrealistic standard of beauty
There is literally nothing more annoying than hearing this.

If dolls, drawings, games, whatever, makes you upset about your body maybe the problem isn't everything else maybe the problem is you. If someone looks at a doll and thinks, "Wow, this makes me feel fat" then maybe problem isn't the fucking doll.
>>
>>14540363
it's a very silly thing to feel uncomfortable about; nobody expects people to look like dolls.

Funny thing is Leonardo DeCaprio is an unreasonable standard of beauty for men, but it never bugged me that much when she talked about him.

I thought her complaints toward the dolls were silly especially in contrast to her thing for Leonardo. It actually raised a red flag for me. Other stuff happened that raised more flags for me down the road and I eventually broke up with the girl.

/toy/ here. I'm a female who owns DD's. The concept that they would make me uncomfortable with my looks is ridiculous. Obviously I'm not jealous of what my anime figs and dolls look like. That just sounds so crazy. What's next? Avoiding all media and any shops that have pictures of models in clothing?

I dunno. The fatness certainly doesn't help but it's not the worst part by a long shot.
>>
>>14541330

I don't get it, what's so bad about this guy compared to others?

I guess its a combination of him not being a good photographer, not being very good at wig care, not being that great at posing and living in a mess? Just don't do those things and it'll be fine.
>>
>>14541433
>what's so bad about this guy

I see you haven't delved too deeply into his photo stories.
>>
>>14541433
>i guess its a combination

Not quite. The bad photography/lack of camera gear is a non-issue except to a few sperglords and entirely excusable. The wig care is a minor note - someone who has been in the hobby this long should know better. Posing is the same, not a big deal but noticeable nonetheless. What upsets me is the squallor the dolls have to live in, the fact he feels no shame showing his mess to the world; and that nobody seems to be calling him out on it in that little hugbox of his.

I am scared because this guy is me in a lot of ways and I'm not so far removed from him thst it's impossible for me to end up there. I'm far too emotionally invested in my dolls for what a middle-aged building labourer should be.

Someone needs to give him the hard knocks he needs to get his shit sorted out and become someone who takes pride in himself.
>>

I'm guessing it's because of posts like this:

>the squallor the dolls have to live in

Pretty much this. My place isn't exactly neat and organized, but the area where my girls are is.

>>14541442

You're right, I haven't. I looked at his latest couple of posts and didn't feel inspired to look further.

>>14541515

Oh wow that escalated fast.

I mean that would almost be sweet if it was photographed and staged better and if he looked more presentable. As it stands I can't get it out of my mind she's going to get fucked later in a pile of rubbish.

I live in a small place an have a fairly large collection. I don't know what I'd do if my place ended up in that kind of mess. Not that its spotless but the clutter is at least organized.

Just let it be a lesson to not make those same mistakes. Its good to be self-aware about these things.
>>

>>
>>14541832
I wonder why he changed. It's not like people were leaving him discouraging comments on his crazier and more perverted posts.
>>
>>14541907

Might be just part of getting older, I've seen one or two posts where the guy was writing stories where he's the father to his MDDs. So I guess in a way he's progressing through life?

One thing I don't really get is that a lot of his dolls have either the default faces or customs like pic related. Instead of having 8 dolls like that why not have just 3 or 4, and spend the extra money on really good faces and dresses?

Just curious, but what do you see your dolls as? For me they seem to be almost like pets.

I can look at them and kind of feel a sentient presence from them because they're made to look humanoid, and it's comforting. But they're convenient since they don't require food, too much special care nor do they poop.

Other than that they also feel like fancy big toys that I do dumb things with, like photography or placing them in stupid poses.

Sort of as ignorance-tolerant pets, sort of the daughters I'll never have. Sort of a life motivator (better keep the house clean for my dolls, oh man this job sucks but if I hold out I can buy her that new dress I want); an interesting and captivating/terrorising house decoration, cuddle toys, hair brushing practice, something to talk at (like the "cat/dog mode" people get) without it judging me; something to focus my prductivity, creativity and energy towards. A reason to get out of bed in the morning. Non-professional interaction with the fairer sex?

My fake cuntstomer service personality is ace but it's nice to come home to something I can be a weirdo around without repercussion.

I read that the mother is dead, but did not know about the jewelry thing. That does make me feel bad as well. Another thing is that a picture of him from 2013 showed a slightly chubby but ok guy, whereas recent pictures showed a much heavier man with much thicker arms, double chins who is also less well kept.

It seems the guy started working around 2013 and the work has taken a toll on him. He's purchased 17+ dolls since 2013 and it seems like a response to stress. I can sympathize with that a bit since my work has also made me stress and overspend. Oh well, wish him luck and happiness I guess.
>>
>>14545497
He's more like us than I thought. Dolls are probably one of the few things that keep him happy and busy. And as weird and creepy as his photostories are, he's not hurting anyone with them.

Its true that the photography and dollfagging hobbies have a ton of overlap, but not everyone who likes dolls has a fancy camera and a light box.

I'm just not into photography - never have been. I love dolls though. I can only post pictures that I take on weekend mornings when the sun is out (which isn't often here).

Why spend money on camera stuff when that money can go towards doll clothes?

I wish Volks would publish sRGB approximations on their site to answer such common inquiries, but instead we get useless disclaimers about how the colour might be different between batches.

I've been on the fence about getting a doll for like a year because of the costs but unexpectedly came over a bunch of money recently. So I could actually go through with it. Will I feel fulfilled and satisfied once I'm finally down the slope? How do I convince myself to take the plunge?
>>

For a moment. Then you'll feel the need to buy her clothes and wigs.

Only you can pull the trigger, we can't convince you one way or another. Dolls are fucking great though.

What still confuse me is why they can't make a material for dolls that do not absorb dyes like sponges. It seems like we really should be that far into the future that we can make dolls wear clothes without creating a mess.

It's not that serious of an issue, don't let people's overreaction freak you out. If you leave your doll on a shelf that's right in direct sunlight every day, then that's a problem. The process is so slow (and happens naturally, btw - UV light just speeds the rate of chemical reaction) that it would take about 10-12 years for you to REALLY notice.

I know customs can look very nice. But getting to that point either means assembling a custom doll or breaking the identity of a character doll. Not to mention that shopping for matching clothes is just as cumbersome as shopping for my own clothes.

Also, displaying character dolls as-is prevents the vicious circle of
>buy clothes
>have spares
>buy another doll for spare outfits
>buy clothes for new doll
etc. etc.
>>
>>14567385
Not that guy, but there is a huge stigma in the BJD community of "shoeless dolls with frazzled mohair wigs and sharpie faceups" or "collectors with 20 dolls, half naked, the other shoeless." The only thing that comes to my mind is resin inflexibility (DDs have that soft bust thing) and the fact that it's harder to cast hollow, but come on, if you design it properly it can't be that hard to make it possible to insert
>>
>>14573436
I think the issue is that resin can shatter if stressed too much. Resin dolls will break fingers/chip if dropped on a hard surface from too high. An internal skeleton would require parts that can be removed (like the DD arms and legs), and the inserting of pieces into other pieces would not be a good idea. Vinyl is more flexible so this can be done, but with resin I could see it being an absolute nightmare.

I traveled all the way to Japan to an obscure shopping mall that was about an hour and a half train ride from Tokyo to buy one of these Peanut cat plushies that all the Japanese doll photographers have, only to find out that the character has grown arms and legs and looks pretty stupid compared to the older, proper peanut-shaped type :<

Oh well, at least Azone shop yielded some nice clothes loot and also picked up a new girl from Volks.
>>
>>14574320

What good doll clothes stores do you know in or around Tokyo? I've been to all the well known ones, Volks, Azone and Mandarake, but there must be some other good places?

I'm off there again in a few months so I'm starting to plan my shopping trips.

Don't know if there's much else besides those - it's always a good idea to check all the shops that sell pre-owned (usually though unused) items, I found some Azone 50cm clothes at those for slightly cheaper than original retail price. Resin is also way heavier. Your skeleton would have to bear a lot of weight. I do not own 1/3 resin dolls, because they are too heavy. I can't physically handle dealing with such a large and heavy doll.
>>
>>14578427
Do you have problems with your health? I didn't think resin dolls were incredibly heavy.
>>
>>14578459
1/3 resin dolls are somewhat cumbersome to handle if you're doing a lot of playing/posing. Your standard 1/3 resin doll is going to be at least a few lbs. It's not heavy by any means, but it's certainly not light by "toy standards."
>>
>>14578609
it's probably the kind of thing you don't understand until you have one, but i think i get it.
>>
>>14578609

They are, and if you are posing them a lot or carrying them a lot it can be a pain. It's just not something I like personally, but I say that having owned Volks SD boys. Volks has pretty heavy resin. Who knows if I would feel different about a different brand.

Also no health problems but 61cm is about 2/5th the size of me. My DDs are about as long as my torso.
>>

as far as i'm aware, yes. maybe there are some that are okay to use, but i'd play it safe and keep them away from dolls.

I just got back from a trip myself. I'd suggest it's worth taking a look around jungle (same side of akiba as mandarake). It's a relatively small store but for it's size it has a hell of a lot of doll stuff considering it's not a doll store. It's hard to count clothes but in terms of DD bodies were talking at least twice as many as mandrake (conservatively). There's also a nice aftermarket doll store in Ikebukuro that I wish I could remember the name of to give you. It's about 6 floors up and has signage on the side of the building. It had little (doll size) baskets of loose sorted clothes along with various sets and bodies.

Perfumes contain oils, which is bad for plastics. If you want your doll to have a particular smell though, you can put the perfume on a scrap of fabric or a cotton ball and put it in something like a tea ball (like $2 for a metal one at Walmart) or even half of a toy capsule from a machine and pop it in their head. As long as the perfume isn't directly touching their clothing, hair, or vinyl you're fine.

Lashinbang on the 4th floor of the Animate building in Ikebukuro has a couple of dresses and dolls.

Closet Child Ikebukuro used to have doll clothes but last I checked they stopped carrying them.

Mandarake in Nakano has some DDs for sale too. Last I went, there was a Rise for over 110 k.

In addition to what was mentioned in Akiba, Lashinbang (also in the Animate Akiba building) has dolls and some clothes.

People think having something that attached to them is cute, right up until they have an early start the next morning and the doll is getting off with their face. At least if you have two they can sort each other out.

wouldn't figures be a better choice for them?

You're right, I need to start abusing my dolls more.

Champignon?

I like outfits like these, where they are kind of casual and have some skin showing. Where's a good place to find ones like these? My little lolis are all currently wearing very elaborate gothic outfits and I am looking for a change of pace.

I want to hotglue this doll.

Please don't. They grow addicted to the substance and can no longer function as pure, innocent creatures. They also become ineligible for marriage when they come in contact with it.

That's okay, I'll take responsibility.

I recognize >>14594989 as a sweater from TTYA and a skirt from the volks web store.

Your preferred target? Face? Belly button? Mound of Venus? Somewhere else? I'm a belly button man myself.

>I'm a belly button man myself.
Is that how you make little dolls? Since they don't have vaginas and all.
>>
>>14598253
Why settle for just one? She's small enough to do all of those at once.
That said, I prefer the hair and thighs.

Has the doll thread always been this full of roleplayers or is this just an artifact of this particular thread?

This edition of the thread is not outstanding in any way. To be honest given the subject manner (little girls) I'm surprised it is not typically worse.

I'm pretty sure imagining that dolls are alive is a staple of the hobby.
>>
>>14598831
For whatever reason it seems normal to me to treat them like they're alive but at the same time I find it strange to see people talking about them moving on their own. Dunno perhaps I think of them more as trees or perhaps it's something else.
>>
>>14598929

They remind me a bit of a very, very inactive pet. Like a tarantula or something.
>>
>>14540297
>since they represent an unrealistic standard of beauty for a regular woman to measure up against
I bet she never had a cute doll to play with when she was a little girl.
>>
>>14598940
I think of them more as basically paralyzed humans that don't actually mind just watching me do stuff all day.
>>
>>14598940
>>14599981
These both seem reasonable to me. I guess it's more when I see people talk about them almost like the toys from toy story that I get thrown.

Do you let them watch you sleep?

Mine don't seem to mind me making an embarrasment out of myself trying to get /fit/. They probably don't yet realise it's so I can take family photos without bringing shame upon us.

shit. I'm an idiot and left her hanging for too long and the rope stained her neck a bit.
